FSX with Track IR

Featured Replies

Hi folks, In anticipation of the PMDG NGX I have really tried to get my head down with Track IR which I have owned for about 18 months now but never got on with it too well really. I now feel I have a profile that fits my needs well and I'm only now left with one issue (it might not be one and might just be me being pedantic). The issue I have is that when moving, I seem to get a weird effect on the screen that I cannot see when viewing videos of other people using Track IR. The only way I can describe it is a sort of shimmer or ripple that goes horizontally across the monitor when moving and it only seems to be visible when looking at the flight deck - if I look outside at the sky I don't see it but this might just be because of the colour. It's not aircraft specific and like I say it maybe is normal but I am finding it quite an annoyance and wonder if it is a known problem with maybe the refresh rate on my monitor or something like that (i'm guessing, I have no idea on the technical side of hardware really). I have the Nvidia GTX 480 with the latest driver. Thanks.

Do you have Vsync set in Nvidia Inspector or FSX.cfg? What you are describing sounds like tearing.

That sure sounds like a Vsync problem. It's most noticable when a strong vertical image, like a pillar beside a windscreen in the VC, pans across the screen. Forcing full-screen Vsync in your video card's control panel should fix it.

Hi, thanks for your quick replies. Just yesterday I started using Nvidia Inspector following Ryans post at http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide-inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/ The Vertical Sync setting for my FSX profile there is currently set to 'use the 3d application setting'. The others available are 'force on', 'force off', '0x08416747 (ISD HiCAD, Side Effects Houdini, Nemetsheck Allplan)' and '0x47814940 (BAE Systems SOCET SET - SocetGXP, ESRI ArcGIS / ArcView'). I have tried both force on and off restarting FSX each time and unfortunately it's the same. There is an Nvidia control panel as well but I believe the Nvidia Inspector profile overrides that? The Vertical Sync option there is currently set to 'use the 3d application setting' and it has force on or off as other options. I haven't touched that at all yet though. I can't see any mention of v-sync anywhere in my fsx.cfg. Thanks guys.

Hello Mark, A couple of things with VSync:1. It only works in DX9 so make sure you're not running in DX10 Preview Mode.2. You can either force VSync on within the NVidia profile or within the game. I use the Nvidia Profile myself but I don't think there's any pro or con to either method. In Nvidia Inspector just set "Vertical Sync" to "Force On" and you should be set. The other way I believe you add the line "ForceFullscreenVSync=1" to the [Graphics] section of the fsx.cfg file. I hope that helps.

I support of Timmer - the "Vertical Sync" - "Force on" in Nvidia Inspector works fine, and exactly as he has suggested. Adding the line "ForceFullscreenVSync=1" to the [Graphics] section of the fsx.cfg file works even better - but there's a small cost in fps. You may notice this at 4 gig, but try it anyway, for your own satisfaction.

Add this to your FSX.cfg [GRAPHICS]ForceFullScreenVSync=1ForceWindowedVSync=1 The Nvidia Inspector "VSync=force on" only works in full screen mode.

Adding the line to the fsx.cfg line looks to have fixed it! Thanks very much, great community on this forum.

I just discovered Track IR from reading this post and saw some videos on it on Youtube. How hard is it to set up? Can you only use it with the 3D panel or will it work on the 2D? Is it worth it? Let me know.

It's best used with the VC. In 2D, it will move the viewpoint around, that's all. Simple setup. Just make sure you don't have a huge amount of backlight... Check out the profile "Seth-Flight" here at the NP forums once you get one... http://forum.natural...38618#Post38618 And, heck ya it's worth it! Probably the best FS hardware investment ever.

It will be the best add on hardware buy you make. period.I have used it for years. I will not fly without it. In fact, and I do not intend to be rude here, but I cannot consider howanyone, who is a serious simmer, can refuse to use it. It's like someone saying they are a flight simmer who refuss to ue a joystick and uses only the keyboard! It's that good! Please have a look at this url where a chap has written a tutorial on how to use it.http://snomhf.exofire.net/trackIR.html FSX is perfect for this device. I fly planes only with a VC. It's like sitting in the pilots seat. One example. In a real plane,Imagine sitting in the pilots seat and then leaning to the left to look out over the door to the ground or along the fuselage. You can do that using trackir- Hope you like it
