Does Nostalgia Influence Our Aircraft Choice?
Understand what you mean. Have a google at Maltby FSX planes- there is a website where David Maltby has some FREE classic planes - 1-11; Comet Trident VC10 The latter may not have a VC. But the others have and all switches as per the real cockpit are depicted and work. i fly them almost exclusively- they are the best cockpits of any plane I have seen including payware. No FMCs. Proper flying where individual auto and semi auto pilot systems have to be learned. Originally made for FS9 they have now been made for FSX too. Install instructions on site And all this is FREE. See what you think. cheers

Vintage airliners!
Hello Bonan There are some really good classic airliners out there. Trident- Comet- and BAC 1-11. They are FREE! I fly them all the time and they have the best virtual cockpits of any - ANY - airliner out there. As you know, their autopilots were really semi - auto - The Trident was nearest to the modern stuff- and these virtual planes have very accurate VCs. Almost ALL the switches work - using the mouse to click on them. Lights- heating- everything. They were created by a David MALTBY. If you google maltby FSX planes I'm sure you'll find the website. Explore it fully because the planes were originally made for FS9- but he has also made planes for FSX. Download and install instructions are given- and you won't be disappointed. These are all i fly now, under IFR - I leave the modern stuff to the FMC boys. I like to search my cockpit for the right switches- which are so individual. I was surprised that none of the replies referred to these planes. They are the best discovery I have ever made for FSX. And they are FREE- Enjoy.

Cfg file why does it show a different graphics card?
Hello I have FSX gold running on XP. It is running fine, but i did notice today when i looked in the Cfg file that the graphics card shown says a nVidia GFX 280 whereas the card in the machine is a GFX 560Ti. I find this strange . Is there an explanation please? I have a backup of the cfg file .

Looking for a plane recommendation
Try these FREE airliners. Comet 4; Trident 3 ; BAC 1-11; All with detailed and all functions clickable VCs. These planes didn't have FMCs, so their semi automatic autopilot and ILS approach system have to be learned, but they are authentic for those planes. No one-button stuff here! Originally made for FS9 but there are versions for FSX. Never seen better planes inc the paywares mentioned eslewhere. Google David Maltby planes and have a look. cheers. P.S. Did i say- They are FREE!?

FS Commander- some advice please
Thank you very much. So the altitude is according to the plane you are using. Ok. Again, obliged.

FS Commander- some advice please
Hello I nearly always fly with FS Commander on a seperate screen. I think it is excellent in many ways. I am irritated though by one thing which i think is due to me not setting something correctly - ( it is not a programme I know a lot about ) When i open a plan which i have used before, i find that the cruise level i had set before has changed and the "default" level- usually FL32 - is there - and i have to readjust it back to what i want . Each time i open a plan I use Save As- in FSX and FSC etc and then load it from FSX flight planner. It would be nice, if, when i open that plan on another day, that it is exactly as I saved it last time. Does anyone know what I have got set wrong, or not set etc that causes this reverting back to cruise level that i don't want? thanks

Best airliner virtual cockpit out right now?
You guys are too modern. Try the FREEWARE David Maltby classic planes- The Comet. Trident and BAC 1-11. All switches in cockpit work- and the semi automatic auto pilot is as the plane is(was). No setting FMCs and going to sleep! You just as well try them - they are completely free..

fsx real world weather vs rex plus what's better?
I'm looking for a real weather program. Both Opus and GS Global say that they don't provide cloud textures? Does this mean that if i buy one of those, that the weather will not work unless i buy something else as well? Sorry to sound thick on this but I just want a program where i install it and run it and i get real weather. Opus seems a bit complicated to run, or have i got the wrong impression? TIA

Is freeware dead?
Lee I don't know what sort of aircraft you fly, but if you fly airliners then you may be interested in british classics like the Trident, Comet and BAC 1-11. If you ( or anyone else ) would like to fly these planes then they are FREEWare, and with the best fully functioning VCs of ANY planes i have seen, including payware. They are magnificent . Starting the BAC 1-11 from cold with all overhead panel switches working etc etc. Google in David Maltby planes and you will find the site. It may say first that they are FS9 planes, but look at the site and you will find there are FSX versions with full install instructions etc. They are the only airliners i now fly- They are great!

How are you doing your long haul flights?
I fly the D. Maltby's Trident and the Comet ( Best VCs of any plane I've , with accurate autopilot sequences which keep you on your toes ) and occasionaly the default 737. If I do long haul, I do not sit for hours in front of the PC- I shorten the flight. So, using IFR, I take off and get to cruising height and level off. Using the Map, I then move the plane to where i think is just before where the descent begins. When I re - enter the flight, in virtual cockpit of course, I first bring up the ATC , tune into the nearest airport and ask for IFR. Then, following the instructions, I descend and land. London to USA in well under and hour.! BTW - The Maltby Trident and Comet are free! Yet still the best tubes I have flown, FB

View in VC-help please .This is a real puzzler,I tell you.
Hello all. I'm a long time FSX player. I am trying to help a friend with a real pussler of a view problem It is baffling me. He is running windows 7 on a good computer. He flys mostly G.A. No problem in 2d cockpit. If he goes to Virtual cockpit, then the HAT switch gives good views panning.both up and down AND side to side whilst sat at the airport. Now, when he switches on the engines he cannot view side to side- it stutters and only goes a little way. The Up /dpwn panning is fine. Strange eh? This happens whatever button command is used to start the engines. Ctrl/E or whatever is chosen as an alternative. We checked the Controls/buttons list and no other function had Ctrl/E which might conflict. Resetting the defaults didn't correct it. It even happens when using the glider! We tried it with trackir 5 uninstalled in case ther was a conflict. No change. When trackir 5 was re installed, it worked perfectly as did the Hat switch - UNTIL the engines were started! Then the problem returned. On checking the cfg file I noticed the display was 54?? x 1080x 32-- This was when he used Triple Headto Go { three screen system } So I changed it back to 1920 x1080x32 but no change to the problem This is what I think is favourite as to where the problem lies. But where? I noticed there was a Camera cfg and a set of entries re the Vrtual cockpit. We compared it to his installation of FSX on his laptop { which doesn't have the problem } and we found No difference between the two Camera cfgs. So. I am now stumped and wondered if any of you expert guys could assist please. TIA

Horizon photo scenery still blurring with high end pc
Hmm- until you defrag, you will have blurries. IIRC, The horizon scenery recommends it to the point of instruction  . Certainly, when i bought mine, the seller told me it was really mandatory otherwise i would have blurries . Until you do that, any other "cures" you try will be wasted effort.

Horizon photo scenery still blurring with high end pc
Hello - One thing I haven't seen mentioned is about ensuring you have defraged after installing the horizon scenery You may already know about that and have done it, but if you did not do that when you installed the scenery, then you should. More than any other scenery , Horizon photo real needs the defrag after installation, otherwise the computer has to work too hard to use the scenery to best advantage.

A plea to developers .....stop the right click/ left click insanity
Well It's what make the world go around i suppose , but I have the opposite viewpoint. I fly virtually all IFR, using track ir and VC cockpits and I find it anathema to have 2d panels popping up all over the place, Imagine being in a real plane and panels flashing up before you !!. There's me thinking that the pilot was supposed to reach out abd turn this knob or pull this lever or that switch! The mouse within a VC gets the nearest to that, and you can even pretend that you are in a real Comet cockpit, which is different from Trident , or a 737 or 747 etc etc. But I do find a lot of FSX flight simmers flying 2d , and if that was all there was , for me I'd stick with F4- FSX will have become a game only. But then - different strokes etc..

ILS landings suddenly not working - NEED HELP
Hello - moved on a few years i know, and i have found this post because i now have this problem recently developed.I've been very happily doing ILS landings for months and now things have changed.I'll look at the NAV /GPS thing, but do you chaps think that settings may have an influence? What i mean is that my settings may be pushing the computer. I've had some OOM crashes at the end of a flight and i was wondering id the computer, instead of giving up on the graphics when pushed,is now giving up on the ILS stability first?Any ideas anyone?TIA

Newbie question - Previously owned copy of FSX
It ain't necessarily so. Like Jim, I had an activation denial and I could only speak to a computer. No way to argue. But why buy used? I bought new for cheaper than used was advertised?

New plane decission
Deeknow S!No, They are not only FS9, - they are for FSX also. Check the install instructions, they show how to install - quite easy, and I can assure you they both run great and fully on FSX .They are the best gems i have ever found on the web.Hope you enjoy them. If you find any difficulty in flying, I have made a word doc. on a step by step guide how to fly etc.

New plane decission

Multi Crew Experience, problems with ATC and ILS
Hello I too tried MCE and i was hopeful. But I couldn't get ATC to respond either- Even had the red writing response up, so i reckoned it had heard me. I don't use it now because i think I need to do loads and loads of voice training, and then it still might not work. Pity, 'cos i would have liked it to work for me. I'm sure others have it working fine. Could be that it likes some voices better than others?

FSX on Vista platform only?
HelloI've found out that I've run out of activations on installing into my laptop which is windows 7.Thanks MSI've fancy getting FSX Gold, and I've seen it at a quite cheap price at several places on Amazon.Although described as new and sealed, I see that each is described at being on the Vista platform.I thought FSX was suitable to run on all platforms , i.e. XP, Vista and Windows 7? Is this not the case?Obviously I don't want to purchase then find out it only runs on Vista!Advice please?

realistic but easy jet to fly? or an oxymoron?
Full easy install instructions are on the website. There is no issue with FPS. I find same as other planes. I too fly a max of 60 mins or so. What I di is fly IFR and once I am cruising I use the map to fast forward to near the destination- re -enter the VC and return to IFR and then land. Bit of a cheat but the only way I have time to cross the Atlantic !

Heads up, Just Flight DC-3 released today
You can also go the inexpensive route and tart up the default FSX DC-3, which is not a bad stab at the real aeroplane. Take a trip over to Trev Morson's DC-3 site for lots of tweaks to the default DC-3 to make it much more realistic, again scroll down the page, and be prepared to cry at the pictures of the damaged DC-3 on there too: http://www.douglasdc3.com/ Chock S! I've looked at the above link ( which I take it is the Trev Morson website you refer to ) and I cannot find any reference to the FSX DC3 . I was looking for it to find out how to tart up the default FSX DC3. Can you assist me wher I should look on this website please? cheers

realistic but easy jet to fly? or an oxymoron?
Mix a little nostalgia in!Google " Maltby planes " and you will find some classic airliners of yesteryear - Comets; Tridents; BAC 1-11 etcThese were originally made for FS9 but the Comet and Trident work perfectly in FSX. They have authentic fully working VCs. The best I have seen on any plane.AND IT IS ALL FREE. These are now the only airliners I now fly, for the same reasons you give. They can be authentically flown from within the VC without having to use ANY pop ups or metal boxes on your table.Joystick and mouse ( to click all the switches of the cockpit which all work! IMHO the best airliners for FSX, bar none. Did I say they were free? P.S The Comet has a co pilot voice who tells you" V1" and "rotate" at the correct speed according to your fuel loading Try them! cheersBecause the AP is semi auto- ( fully authentic ) you have to work that bit harder than the modern tubes -lol.
