realistic but easy jet to fly? or an oxymoron?

Featured Replies

I'm looking for a jet, probably payware, but wouldn't have to be. That would be easy to fly, easy to learn and not take all day to startup AND YET at the same time be realistic? any ideas? or am I dreaming. and when I say easy , easy in the relative sense. for example, pmdg to much to stomach right now, default - way to simple,,.. something in between perhaps?.it can be passenger, cargo or biz, doesn't really matter, I'm just curious to see what you all recommend.

Ciao!

There's a broad range of models, with a great starting place being the Flight1 Cessna Mustang, a very light jet with G1000 avionics and faithful rendition of systems...yet is quick to start and easy to fly. It can be a bit tough on framerate but is highly recommended.

Eaglesoft Citation II/SP or Beechjet 400A are both in that arena, F1 Mustang (AIRAC support) or Eaglesoft CJ V1 or V2 (AIRAC support) are next up. If you like commercial, the QW757 is a very good choice - easy to fly and very pretty. Most of the Commerical Level Sim planes are pretty basic but look realistic as does the Aerosoft A320. DJ

That's an easy one: Flight1 Mustang

MSFS

For an easy passenger jet that falls between default and the likes of PMDG etc and which has some absolutely awesome eye candy, I'd suggest Aerosoft's Airbus X.

Well, in all honesty, the PMDG 737NGX is quite an easy jet to fly since so much on it works electronically anyway. You might want to give the QW757 a look though. The most essential things are rather well simulated, such as the autopilot controls, but many thing,s including the FMC, are simplified.

I wouldnt be too scared of the PMDG NGX if I were you, its not as difficult to fly as you might think and once you fly it a few times you can start it and be on your way in no more than 5 minutes. Plus you dont have to start it cold and dark if you dont want to.

Search for the freeware FSX Falcon 50 biz jet. Great hand flying with a little skill required to make greaser landings so a good challenge but also pleasant to fly. The Flight1 Mustang is also great but has appalling frame rates on my machine so I rarely fly it now (we're talking under 20fps while I get 50-60fps from my QW 757 VC. Go figure!). Keep the blue side up etc:) Adam

Eaglesoft's Citation X v2 and Citation CJ1+ v2. Easy frames, easy systems, nice handflyers, and good FMS's if you like that. The CJ1+ has the unique Universal FMS. Fun!

I have pretty much every addon available but the two I fly the most, because I am like you-an 'easy guy', are the Eaglesoft CJ1 version 1, and the Quality Wings 757. I want planes that not only look good, but also have both 2D and VC's and perform well, both fit the bill perfectly. I like to fly, not spend all day running checklists and programming FMC's. The QW757 allows you to load a flight plan directly from FSX so it's fast and painless and the CJ has a FMC but it is the simplist of the simple, most flights I dont even open it (version 1, version 2 has a different FMC) Have fun no matter what you choose

+1 re Quality Wings 757. Great fun, good looking, excellent flight dynamics, no boring 20 minute checklists...

I certainly would recommend the Citation Xv2 - not got the CJ1v2 yet, but I would certainly recommend trying it - since it is sold via Flight1 you can always get your money back if you don't like it. The Flight1 Mustang is nice although extremely heavy on the frame rate in the VC. It really depends on what you are looking for, the Mustang "feels" more like a GA aircraft (I believe it is designed for pilots stepping up from GA to a jet). Stepping "Up" to the CJ1 then you have the FMS to learn .. as you have in the Citation X, although that is more complicated (and larger & faster) again .. .. .. All 3 are sold via Flight1, so as long as you decide within 30 days then you would not have to regret you decision since you can "return" them... G

Mix a little nostalgia in!Google " Maltby planes " and you will find some classic airliners of yesteryear - Comets; Tridents; BAC 1-11 etcThese were originally made for FS9 but the Comet and Trident work perfectly in FSX. They have authentic fully working VCs. The best I have seen on any plane.AND IT IS ALL FREE. These are now the only airliners I now fly, for the same reasons you give. They can be authentically flown from within the VC without having to use ANY pop ups or metal boxes on your table.Joystick and mouse ( to click all the switches of the cockpit which all work! IMHO the best airliners for FSX, bar none. Did I say they were free?laugh.png P.S The Comet has a co pilot voice who tells you" V1" and "rotate" at the correct speed according to your fuel loading Try them! cheersBecause the AP is semi auto- ( fully authentic ) you have to work that bit harder than the modern tubes -lol.

The single most obvious choice is the Flight 1 Cessna Mustang. This is because it is an accurate simulation of the real thing, and the real thing was specifically designed as an easy to fly jet that would make transitioning from simpler GA aircraft a straightforward process and one which a single pilot can handle. This simple to operate aspect of it was the design goal of Cessna when they created the Mustang, which is why you see that the Cessna Mustang has a control layout similar to most GA prop aircraft in spite of being a jet, i.e. there is no complex overhead panel etc, etc. Despite this, the Cessna Mustang is a fairly capable aircraft with a high service ceiling, and the only issue with it in real life is that it is a bit slower than most jets so it can have big jets run up its &@($* on airways and clog the lanes somewhat, which is why some countries don't like it flying up on high airways in their airspace because it cannot cruise at the typical mach speeds encountered up there with the gods. In most of Europe (where it is often used as an air taxi) the aircraft has to be operated by two pilots despite the fact that it can be legally operated by a single pilot in many other places around the world, including the USA. A big plus point of it is that it has a relatively slow approach and landing speed for a jet owing to its minimal wing sweep (which is in fact why it ultimately has a lower top speed) and that makes it a great transitional jet aircraft for those used to operating prop aircraft, since it can make it into many GA airfields where other jets would not find that possible, which again is why it is a popular choice as a business charter air taxi. The Flight 1 version of it is a bit tough on frames, but if you have a reasonably decent computer you will be okay. Like some other high end Flight 1 aircraft, it has the official stamp of approval from the real Cessna company, so if you want a realistic easy to fly jet, there really is no other more sensible choice. PMDG NGX. I don't use cold n dark, so my engines and avionics are up. All I do is hit a few buttons on the FMS, set a few knobs and switches and I'm off. It looks incredible, flies incredible, and is incredibly simple to use.
