August 5, 201114 yr Hey guys. I realise this is probably the worst time to post this question, everbody occupied with the release etc. But, since… a ) PMDG has published systems requirements, and b ) I just bought the NGX (whith NO DL or install problems…! Just as it should be, but often isn’t. Good work, PMDG!!!) …I thus need an advice whether my system setup will handle the NGX or not. (Or at least not so good) My system specs: OS: Windows Vista 64-bit, SP2, Flight Simulator X with Acceleration installed.Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHzRAM: 4GBVideo Card: NVidia GeForce GTX470HD: 1 TBMonitor: Widescreen 1920x1080 If I need to upgrade, could you please advice what needs upgrading, to what and in which order (in case I need to prioritize). August 5, 201114 yr If you wanna upgrade go this route CPURAMGPU My Youtube Channel (P3D/FSX/X-Plane Videos and much more!)
August 5, 201114 yr He absolutely does not need to upgrade the GPU. With that system, the NGX should be flyable with low scenery, etc settings. If contemplating an upgrade, the most effective route would be: Motherboard---- P67 or Z68CPU/RAM--------2500k or 2600k processor and a 1600MHz DDR3 dual channel RAM kit. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
August 5, 201114 yr What did i said? If he wants to upgrade...He wants to go CPU then RAM then GPU...Obviously if you going to Upgrade the CPU...the Mobo is a must...thats common sense. My Youtube Channel (P3D/FSX/X-Plane Videos and much more!)
August 5, 201114 yr Author Thx for that. To understand better, is that: CPU from dual core to i7 ?RAM from 4 to 8 GB ?GPU from Nvidia GTX470 to GTX580 ?And what about OS? Is W7 required ? Sorry, but I'm better on a/c than I am on computers.... Peter Vestergren
August 5, 201114 yr Keep your GPU, its by far good enough for FSX. I'm running a 460 wich also is good enough.
August 22, 201114 yr Good afternoon,I've been reading in some of the forums posts which note if you have the PMDG MD11, and it runs fine, it should be ok, etc. I don't have the MD 11 but do have the Queen of the sky's, the Level D 767, Flight 1 MD80 etc. which all run fine. I'm away from my home system right now so don't have the specs to share. (I'll be away for about 3 months, so the boxed version should be out by then)ThanksGary
August 22, 201114 yr Well he is at 3.0 ghz like me except I am on a Quad, and I only have an 8800GTX Card. and I can run 4096 clouds and mostly a mix of High to Ultra High Settings. A GTX470 is a 1280 meg card and is like a GTX560ti. So he has plenty of GPU power and if anything should probably be able to run things faster than mine. So I dont know where you get the LOW Settings thing from. Buy it and i and try it on your current system. Should work fine. Paul Deemer
August 22, 201114 yr Its easy, just ask yourself if your happy with your perfomance, if you are...keep it, if not...upgrade, simple`s. ray wed
August 22, 201114 yr Hey AJAX6... your specs are almost exactly like mine... My CPU is actually a bit slower and I'm using an ATI video card but similar in capability to yours. I can run the NGX just fine. Not at full quality settings in FSX, but certainly smoothly enough for me. If you have any other "good" payware that runs OK I would say the NGX will run OK too. I was also concerned about performance but have been pleasantly surprised. Good Luck! Sherm Sherm

I consider that PMDG have done a superb job.I'm getting 18-20 fps in the air with the VC. I'm getting down to 7-10 fps on the approach to EHAM in the tutorial. All sounds are brilliant. I'm also running FS Commander moving map on a second monitor on this same system. It also runs very well with using the UK2000Manchester and Liverpool airports - again without any major problems. I did suffer CTD's on startup until I installed the two patches. Make sure that you are using ******* Bogote's FSX.cfg util - it made one huge difference on this system. I got about 5-7 more fps afterthe cfg file was processed. TIA Hi Peter,You have a pretty similar system to mine except that your in better shape as far as having a 64 bit OS, 2GB more RAM, and a better video card. That being said, the only thing that might hurt you a bit is your stock 3.0ghz clock speed. I OC'ed mine E8400 to 3.85ghz and get awesome FPS while running the settings at a fairly high settings, albeit I have done a lot of texture work and tweaking along the way to get the performance I have. Anyways, on my rig I can get 25 to 30 FPS flying into FSDT's KJFK as a test airport with a fairly large amount of AI and eye candy, and 30 to 35 FPS in the exterior spot view. I posted some screen shots here http://forum.avsim.net/topic/343568-pmdg-ngx-fps-comparison-shots-at-jfk-with-core2duo/ as proof if you want to take a look to see what you could probably expect with a slightly higher clock speed of your E8400. Of course the newest hardware will do even better and I am going to upgrade at some point, but overall I am happy enough with my performance that i'm not really in a rush to go out and put a new system together.Good luck.Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
August 23, 201114 yr I agree with Zach, with my current specs,I've got in the VC 19-35 (without the frame limiter) and external about 60 fps, using the ******* tweaks and autogen off and water effects 1.x - I'm too busy in the VC to look outside except at the runway in any case :) I found that switching off Virtualisation support for the CPU in the BIOS gave me some extra fps and I overclocked my stock Q6600 from 2.4 Ghz to 3.1Ghz on air. I'm thinking of the upgrade route too and will probably get the i5 2500K and 8GB RAM 1600 speed , my GTX 460 is probably still OK,as upgrading to a Q9650 with the 775 socket is actually more expensive than upgrading to an i5 CPU,motherboard and RAM. Funny how a $70 software makes you spend $1000 on hardware :). Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry. August 23, 201114 yr Peter For what it's worth, have a look at my specs which are very modest. The NGX works really well in most situations, with my normal set up of no autogen and limited traffic. I was concerned like you, but I've found the 737 to better FPS wise than the CS 767 and the QW 757, if you have either of those... I run UTX, FEX and some addon airports. FPS in the VC remain in the low to mid 20s at UK2000's EGLL or Aerosoft LPMA. In the sticks it's much better. At all times the sim is very smooth and I'm more than happy. All the best Ian
