August 8, 201114 yr As FSX and addons continues to mimic real life, I've noticed that most A/C's have flexing wings. I have also noticed that they do not flex nearly as much as in real life. A/C's that I have flown have noticable wing flex, even while taxing. I am hoping developers can increase this aspect of flightsim with their future models. Observing this feature adds much more realism to the flightsim experience - just my observation. Comments. . . . . . . Wilbert
August 9, 201114 yr Moderator That's one of thos features I dont really care about. When I am taxing or flying a 737, 747, 757, or 747, I can barely see the wings behind me it at all, so I dont really even notice if they are flexing or not. I suppose if your a simmer that likes to view the a/c from outside while flying or taxing it would look cool, but even the a/c that I own that do have wing flex I never even really notice.I'd rather they add VS rain drops than more realistic wing flex. August 9, 201114 yr I want both wing flex and raindrops. I also want a flight attendant to bring me a warm every now and then on long flights. Cheers, - jahman.
August 9, 201114 yr I know that I will get all that when I'm flying 9hrs + to Toronto tomorrow...IRL that is. Well, I don't need the raindrops but I hope the wings do flex!BTW, i do need the first coffee before take off!!
August 9, 201114 yr Be careful what you ask for. The next argument will be "is the wing flex too much, or not enough"? But the drinks do sound OK. Dan George (woodhick)Check out Greenbrier Aero Club, the VA for and about the GA pilot.
August 9, 201114 yr Luckily I can't see the flexing wings from the cockpit!I've seen them flexing in moderate turbulence a few times plus the engines desperately trying to stay on the flexing wing from the cabin..... don't need that view too often :(
August 9, 201114 yr ..wings do flex!I exchanged a few words with a French 57 pilot a while back, and he said 67 is better in rough, as it has much more flex. Any comments? https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
August 9, 201114 yr The bigger the plane, the more inertia and more flex. Yes, the 767 is basically riding through turbulence like a soft Cadillac....worst are the planes with tail mounted engines as the wings are much more stiff.
August 9, 201114 yr The downside to flex is that if you dont like, or need to reposition the lights, no can do, and some planes have lights that look like xmas tree bulbs. Jay

Well, I like wing views because that is what I am more use to seeing in all the real flights I've had. I don't see why we cannot have wing views, flexing wings and cockpit oriented views to please all aspects of this wonderful sim for all. The best thing about it is the option to have and enjoy what you like - if you don't like wing views from the cabin, don't use it - if you don't care for 2d cockpit views, don't use it and etc. Wilbert
August 10, 201114 yr Moderator I would like the rain drops also but this is not the topic of this post. I suppose you don't care for wing views either. Well, I like wing views because that is what I am more use to seeing in all the real flights I've had.Just so you know I wasn't trying to swing the topic of your post away from wing views. You asked for comments so I gave mine, in that I dont care for it too much and would rather they use the animations elsewhere. It's ok though if we all dont like using the same views in the sim that's why they provided so many view points we can use so that everyone is happy. Yes, your right I dont use wing views and rarely even use spot view unless I am taking a screen shot. The main reason I dont use wing views is mainly because I like to simulate being the pilot of the a/c and not the passenger. However some a/c that have exteremly detailed cabins like some of CaptSims airliners would be excellent for a passenger sim due to the extent in which they model the cabin. The only problem is I dont think CaptSim a/c have wing flex to go along with.I'm sure as flight sims progress in the future, wing flex will become more of a standard feature. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point heat blur from engine exhaust and things of that nature will become more common place as well. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
August 10, 201114 yr At the end of every flight, I do a replay in wing view and in tower view. I just like to get views of the landing from a few perspectives. In addition, I will switch to wing few for a short time during cruise or when banking over interesting scenery. While I love looking at things from the pilots perspective, I also enjoy the perspective I am most familiar with in the rw - passenger perspective. Wings views bring me back to trips I have taken in the past or to trips I hope I can take in the future. So, I agree with the OP. Many times the wing flex is a too subdued. I do, however, wish we could apply Shockwave lights to ac that do have a good amount of flex.
