Recomendation for external FPS limiter

Featured Replies

There are quite a few threads on this one so you will peobably read some that agree with me and some that don't. IMO the best one to date (which i am now using) is the Antilag limiter. It is easy to install and gives you smooth performance. Drawback: If you do a lot of swiching from "Full Screen" to "Windowed" and back again, you get a black screen, which you have to work around. For me, i don't have a problem with windowed mode and i am willing to compromise for the smoothness it gives me, especially as i use EzDok Camera and Trackir.
For the black screens when alt-tabbing: add DisablePreload=0 to your fsx.cfg under "main". Solved it for me and many others! Robert

Hey Robert. I will definately try. If you are right, there are a lot of guys over at the MS FSX Forum under "Alternative FPS Limiter" that will be interested in this one because nobody could figure it out.Regards,

I am using the other FPS limiter not this one, but it you can give it a try. I have been struggling with this for days, even submitted a ticket until I found this hint. Robert

i tried the external limiter suggested in the NGX Intro and this just made things way more stuttery with lower frames (fsx internal was set to unlimited). So not sure if antilag is worth it.Has anyone seen a huge improvement using antilag ove that other one?

So long as you can live with Windowed mode, for me and many others, definately smoother.

oh really ok thanks i will give it a shot. Haha I religiously fly window mode....is there any other way.

For what it's worth I haven't really noticed a difference between "FPS Limiter 0.2" and Antilag.

Yeah, fullscreen and all the radios and maps on another computer through SimConnect (when required) ;)

That's the setup I'd like to have when I get around to building a real system... FSX by itself on the computer with everything else on another computer via network. I also want my own private island.

You are right Brian. The recommended setting for 'Render Ahead' by the way, seems to be '0'. That's what i have mine set to, as recommended by smarter than me.Regards,
Hello, I have understood meaning of the Render Ahead feature yet, or better, what are differences (in terms of performance, smothness and so on) between values from 0 to 2. Could someone give me an explanation please? Thanks. Riccardo RighettiProud customer of the PMDG 737NGX

I have been using DXtory lately.http://dxtory.com/v2-home-en.html No need for .dll's in your FSX folder, creating .bat files. Just start DXtory first, then FSX with internal limiter to unlimited.. Works with DX 7,8,9 and 10(!). The program itself is payware but can be used for free with only a 10 sec. nag screen and a browser window after shut down. DXtory itself is an utillity for taking video's and screenshots but has in build in frame limiter. For use in FSX, make sure you set your target framerate in the settingswindow and make sure you disable any overlays. Works like a charm on my setup and I prefer it over antilag or fps limiter .0.20.

Antilag works good in both windowed and full-screen mode, however it is terrible when it comes to switching between fullscreen and windowed mode. I switch quite a lot, so it's a no-go for me.

Interesting. Would you say download the 'Stable' 2.0.108 version, or go for the latest? In other word, which one are you using with success?Regards, Edit. This is a question for Lenny at Post# 26
