August 24, 201114 yr With all the effort PMDG went to creating such a realisitc and perfect aircraft why did they leave out the rain drop effect on the windows. I think this would have been an excellent feature. I noticed it was achieved in the J41 in there service pack. Can we petition to have this done for the NGX service pack?
August 24, 201114 yr Use the search function... Question asked then answered MANY times before. Best regards, Fritz ESSONO
August 24, 201114 yr It's bad for performance, and It exhausts animations.I'll try and get exact quotes. But it has been brought up before.
August 24, 201114 yr Author Use the search function... Question asked then answered MANY times before.I did but didn't find an exact answer. I know that Microsft ditched the coding last minute for FSX but it has been achieved in the J41, thought it would have been done in the NGX. Has there been a definate answer to this question by PMDG? if so can you direct me to the post. Cheers

August 24, 201114 yr Author I'm looking, but ultimate answer is no. Thats a shame, it is a great feature.
August 24, 201114 yr I really don´t miss to much this effect. Performance is very important in this aircraft. And i´m allways too busy looking the instruments ... August 24, 201114 yr Author I really don´t miss to much this effect. Performance is very important in this aircraft. And i´m allways too busy looking the instruments ... I agree, i would not compramise performance for a certain effect but if most of the systems out now can handle such an effect it would be a nice option to have if it is possible to create.
August 24, 201114 yr It was not included because PMDG literally ran out of animations they could use within FSX. IIRC, in order to do raindrops in FSX, you have to render a bunch of layers of "raindrops", then animate them so the drops travel across the windscreen. It's very heavy on animations, but it's doable on things like the J41 and L39 that have less detailed models and use less animations. Joe Sherrill
August 24, 201114 yr Rain in VC is an FX... They already use ALL the possible FSX limitations/animations for this aircraft... Take a look around guys. They made a choice... and IMHO considering the nature the NGX, not exactly focused on eye-candy, they favor GOOD stuff like HGS, MCPs, ... You know, ALL that GOOD realistic stuff... Best regards, Fritz ESSONO
August 24, 201114 yr Actually it has to do with the model, it's not an .FX file like other FSX effects. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
August 24, 201114 yr Even Ifly did it with their 737 in FS2004. That looked nice, why isn't that possible in FSX?
August 24, 201114 yr Who cares? It's just a visual, and a very bad one too. The wipers won't even clear the windows. Rain isn't modelled at all in FSX performance wise. Daniel Verhaal
August 24, 201114 yr Missing VC raindrops makes Fsx feel like FS 2002. Since I bought FSX back in 2006 I almost never flew with rain on as the visual appearance is so poor without the raindrops. There is absolutely no atmosphere when it is raining. And it is such an important factor. Only a few addon airports use a wet runway texture. So after fs9 we have literally nothing on this sector anymore. With the new "CDU interface" PMDG proved that much more is possible in FSX as we thought. If somebody told me it would be possible to choose between different MCPs in game I would not have believed it. Maybe there could be a simple solution for getting back the VCraindropeffect. Why not introduce something like "Environment effects" that can be controlled over the CDU. When you want to use it other effects which are more or less cosmetic could be deactivated to make the VC rain possible. For example If I want to fly with the rain drops I don't need wingflex or other effects. If you want those effects back just deactivate the environment effects. So what do you think about that? Roland Schmalzl
