September 20, 201114 yr I have seen several theads on this and recently responded to one. Thought I would post this out in the open where it is easier to find. If your FSX Default Airport Runway Information does not agree with the latest AIRAC then it is time to go looking for a newer AFCAD. With this in mind you have 2 choices. You can go buy a payware airport which would have a newer AFCAD than FSX Default or you can look for a freeware AFCAD on AVSIM of which there are many! One popular author is Ray Smith. He has put out a ton of AFCADs to fix various errors in FSX airport AFCADs.He adds more than just fixes to the Runway info. In many of his AFCADs new Terminals, Gates, Taxiways, are added as well as Fire Stations and Cargo Areas. It is definately worth your time to at least get an updated AFCAD for all the airports you fly into regularly. Having problems with FSX Default Airports when using the latest Charts and AIRACs is to be expected considering the information from most of the FSX Airports date back to 2006. Not only are they outdated but there are also many airports that have errors. If a real Airport has changed, (Rwy Numbers, ILS Frequencies or added New Runways) obviously you are going to run into problems and confusion until you update the Airport. Most of the popular airports people fly to have freeware AFCADs available. The majority of the airports below were done by Ray Smith. There are many other Airports available out there this is just an example of the Airports I had to get updated AFCADs for after the real world airports made changes. Also Look at the bottom of this post for important installation information. Default FSX Airport Updates EDDK - Cologne EGNX - East Midlands KATL - Atlanta KBWI - Baltimore KCLT - Charlotte KCVG - Cincinnati KDEN - Denver KEWR - Newark KGSP - Greenville KIAD - Washington DC KMIA - Miami KOAK - Oakland KONT - Ontario KPHL - Philadelphia KPHX - Phoenix KSEA - Seattle KSLC - Salt Lake City LIRF - Rome NFFN - Fiji NSTU - Pago Pago NZAA - Auckland OMDB - Dubai PANC - Anchorage RJAA - Tokyo RJTT - Tokyo RPLL - Manila SBKP - Campinas WIII - Jakarta WMKK - Malaysia YPPH - Perth YSSY - Sydney Keep in mind that you can only have one AFCAD at a time in the Addon Scenery/Scenery Folder. To get around this issue and not have to swap AFCADs everytime I fly somewhere I do the following. Example for Sydney (YSSY). I go into the Addon Scenery Folder and create a Folder named YSSY and then go into the YSSY Folder and make another Folder called Scenery. Drop the updated AFCAD in the Scenery folder. Then you start up FSX and add the Folder YSSY to your Scenery Library. With some sceneries though there will be an additional file or two to add elsewhere such as files that go in the Scenery/Global/Scenery or Scenery/World/Scenery folders. So it is important to review the readme.txt files that come with each AFCAD Update that will tell you how to install it correctly. Very easy to do if you follow the instructions and put the files in the proper locations. With Payware Sceneries you do not have to worry about this step most times. The installer usually sets everything up for you automatically. Paul Deemer
September 20, 201114 yr Also, if you use vRoute, there's a scenery tab, and you can see what other people recommend. Sometimes it's for payware scenery, sometimes freeware, sometimes FSX, sometimes FS9. Either way, you'll get a pretty good idea about what's out there. And, as Paul said above, Avsim is THE place for good freeware scenery. Cristi Neagu
September 20, 201114 yr I'd rather download ONE six year old AIRAC that works with the existing FSX scenery than have to hunt down and update every airport I fly to, but that's just me. Chris Hicks
September 20, 201114 yr Author As a little gift to you all, here are 5 Freeware Sceneries that are Payware Quality that I have found on AVSIM. These are more than just AFCAD updates, they are complete sceneries with Custom Buildings, Textures and many other extras. Search for the Authors Name on AVSIM and you should be able to find the files. If you have trouble finding any of the Sceneries below, let me know and I will find the link for you. FIMP - Mauritius (Max Kraus) LCPH - Paphos (Max Kraus) RCTP - Taiwan (Houting Chiang) SCIP - Easter Island (Cristobal Laje) TBPB - Barbados (Max Kraus) Paul Deemer

Good Luck to you. If you don't fly online you should not have any issues at all. You can land manually without Autoland or the HUGs available when you encounter a problem with the outdated information. If you fly on VATSIM or IVAO and use Real World Charts, relying on 6 year old data is not a viable option. What you seek is not available anyway. So pretty much a moot point. Paul Deemer
September 20, 201114 yr I'm using a lot of the same updates, Paul. I'm glad to see someone has brought this to light on these forums. I think it should be made a sticky. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

That's (Purchased full sets of FAA Hi/Lo Enroute USA/Alaska/Caribbean/South America) what I use and I update the few airports I fly to with the most current Afcad I can find.I do not have purchased scenery (yet). Then I download (every 3 months or so) a full set of free FAA airport (SID//STAR/Approach) charts for my favorite flights. Navigraph Airacs monthly updates for the few aircraft I fly. I also have Aivlasoft EFB but have not tested it much yet. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
September 20, 201114 yr I've got a few small totes full of charts, en routes, etc. too. You're not alone! Yeah, my table won't look nearly as cool with one iPad on it, but I guess that's where we're headed! I suppose we're too late in the game with Microsoft Flight to hope for someone to create a utility program to update the default scenery without the tedium. I would be willing to pay for something like that. Chris Hicks

September 20, 201114 yr Author You are aware, are you not, that the enroute charts are also available online as pdf or georeferenced raster files? I either get mine at http://www.airnav.com/airports/ or if they are not available there I have full access to any Jeppesen Charts I need world wide through another source. The point is not about who has what or how many charts. A Chart is completely worthless if your having a conflict between FSX Data and the Chart or AIRACs Data. Example: A Runway is missing in FSX because It did not exist six years ago. Or Maybe the NDB, VOR or ILS frequencies changed, or they might have even built some new terminals and taxiways. Only way to make FSX Airports match the current AIRACs and Charts as close as possible is to update your AFCADs as needed. Nobody suggested you go searching through the AVSIM Files section looking for every Airport you fly to, even I would never do that. The Above list of Airports I updated as I flew to them one at a time as needed, so I got all that updated over a period of months. The point was if your like me and fly all over the world, your going to come across problems at certain airports where changes have been made in the last couple years. I like my airports to be realistic, up to date, and matching the real world airport. So if I am using the latest charts and airacs and there is an issue at an Airport I update it. Easy thing to do only takes a couple minutes to find and update. If you fly offline and got a prehistoric set of Charts Good luck with that should have no issues. If you fly online your best bet would be to have updated airports and charts. If you do not do this then ATC after awhile is going to start sending you to the proper website to get the Charts. Or maybe an AFCAD if you do not have the taxiways or runways they want you to use because they did not exist 6 years ago. Paul Deemer

Most people probably do not print out all the Airports anyway. Check the link below for an example with KLAX Charts. I could find whatever I need flipping through there on my monitor way faster than I could flipping through a binder of Printed Charts. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KLAX Regarding enroute charts (for the US at least) http://www.runwayfinder.com - this is basically Google Maps for the large charts, it's awesome and I use it all the time.
