That's exactly the reason why I stopped using tweaks years ago. They may work wonders for a lucky few but for many people they cause more problems than they solve. It's especially annoying when some of these problems go unnoticed for quite some time and only rear their ugly head when something new like the NGX comes into the mix. By then one has forgotten about the applied tweaks and they are not suspected to be the culprit. Instead the new add-on and their support will have to take the blame. I've seen it happen many times, especially with the bufferpools tweak and similar ones. Whenever someone feels the urge to try out a new tweak he or she should pause for a second and ask him/herself: "The developers of FSX probably knew about this function... if it's so good, why didn't they activate it by default or at least put an option for it into the menus?". The answer usually is: "Because it's not fully implemented and breaks other stuff". wink.png
I couldn't agree more. I think i'm gonna do a completely fresh install to see what happens. Nothing is broken as far as i'm concerned but maybe it'll make things better? Hypnotized.gif

You should still add HIGHMEMFIX=1 in your fsx.cfg file. This is listed in the introduction paragraph of the NGX, it is not optional, it's mandatory.

What do you mean mandatory? What is this really suppose to do, as Google says conflicting things about it.

I'd trust the PMDG docs more than google. HIGHMEMFIX fixes skeletons(I think other things too), and it actually works too. I use to have skeleton issues almost every flight; haven't had one since I put HIGHMEMFIX in my cfg( the day after the NGX was released).

Quote from the NGX Introduction .pdf In the [GRAPHICS] Section: Add the following lines (if they are notalready present)• HIGHMEMFIX = 1• TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD = 4096 HIMEMFIX will prevent you from seeing a “skeleton airplane” undercertain high graphic-load circumstances, and the TEXTURE_MAX_LOADwill give you the highest resolution textures in the cockpit of the PMDG737NGX thus improving your visual experience.

Also note that any time you change any scenery setting in fsx it resets the texture max load to 1024. You'll have to go back in & change it back to 4096.

And here is where I start to get scared cause of the success I am having now. Good frame rates and all....I have never had those issues before, I think I will just wait it out. I see no real reason to continue to play with my setup.I can't be the only one who is not doing this. Plus, look at my pictures of my VC. How much higher can it go? Lol. I think the visual performance wont be a greater tradeoff for the fps performance.

William Sequeira

As long as you're happy with your setup you don't necessarily have to do anything. With monsters like fsx you can't really make an all-in-one master tweak list that'll help every system. All that matters is that you find what works for you on your pc.I tend to implement a lot of tweaks/adjustments, but fine-tuning it is a bit of fun for me. I also handload my rifle ammunition, adjusting powder type/charge, bullet depth, even things as basic as the brand of primers affects accuracy.

Okay I understand you are happy with your setup, but inserting the HIGHMEMFIX=1 in your GRAPHICS section of the cfg is only going to prevent headaches without risking anything at all sim stability wise. If you ever watch your aircraft in instant replay or fly 3.5 hour plus flights, this small tweak will prevent any and all issues related. Just an FYI but it is strongly advised.

I am lucky. After a little problem with trying to activate livery's with the wrong number everything works great. No skeletons no stutters, no problems. What astounds me is it's smoothness at low frame rates.I still have a AMD dual socket FX-74 mobo that used FS9, any simulation @ 180FPS. I thought it was to damn LOUD! I figured the 1000 watt PSU was making all the noise. It was the heat sinks. It was o.k. during flight but drove me nuts doing regular work.I put the PSU in a new rig, no noise. It's an ENERMAX Galaxy thats 6 yrs. old now. After building a new rig I could not use the NVidia GTX8800.New rig again:Asus Sabertooth 990FX w/8gb 1866 RamATCS Cooler Master 840 case, it's big!ATI 5850AMD Phenom 965, i know it's no where as good as a Sandy Bridge!I'll see how good that Bulldozer chip is. If it comes somewhere close to an I5 it should be o.k.I held off on getting the 737NGX because i was worried the 965 would not be good enough to run it. However thanks to PMDG's superior work it does o.k. If the Bulldozer is a flop I'll re-build the dual socket with a water cooled setup and overclock the heck out of it. That machine gave me 90FPS at JFK with FS9 maxed. This simulation is almost too hard to believe. The 737NGX is so far ahead of any other sim out there it's....talk about raising the bar. Who can ever catch up? I can't wait for the 777,747 NGX's. Made my first flight KORD to KLAS landed with the HUD display, unbelievable, perfect! Now I should do the Tutorial flight, Ryan did a good job with it, i think from reading it. Buck Bolduc

Well the Bulldozer seems to be somewhat lacking. I'm going to throw an 1100T in this box as a place holder. Don't have any real problems with NGX (which surprises me) I just get nervous seeing 14-17 FPS @ JFK and other dense airports, w/AP traffic set to medium. As soon as I'm off the ground the frames climb to 27-30 depending on the scenery etc. Memory running at 1600, don't know if it makes that much difference tho. I notice on various sites that benchmarks seem to show a pretty good difference between 1600 and 1866, how that translates to FSX/PMDG I don't know. Will use a Corsair H80 radiator with the 1100 and OC the crap out of it! Buck Bolduc

I honestly believe that FPS are all relative to peoples machines, I have read on sites where people are saying they are ggetting 12 - 13 at heavy airports and it is unplayable, but I fine anything over 13 not noticeable....it is all smooth. The only airport I have problems with it FlyTampa Tampa, while HongKongs from flyTampa gives me 20s.....weird.I am going to try and give the FSDT LAX demo a try, people are saying that their airports are more fps friendly that. FlyTampas.....idk

I was overreacting on the time just a little..lol.It is just that everyone swears by this one install method of constant restarts and defrays, and the defray tool I use takes about an hour each time given you have run it at least once a week beforehand. Then, all the addons, REX, GEX, FlyTampa, PMDG, and my c152 take the good part of a day... Does anyone think it has to do with the light settings I was trying to apply? I bought that shockwave 3d and tried to put it into my SimObjects/airplanes/pmdg800wl aircraft.cfg.After that and running this installer it did this, first though I would boot up FAX and after 2 mins Max it would exit to desktop, and the even viewer showed something with the pmdg. DLL. I will post it in the thread when I am back at my computer, but it is the same one posted on these forurm about the hotfix issue. Problem is, I bought this plane almost 3 weeks ago, and the hotfix has been running great, no problems, ctds, or panel freeze, and I do flights when able of up to and over 3 hours. It kills me because this is the third time something has hung me up before I wanted to fly, as freetime is hard to come by in this house.
What is happening when you first re-install FSX and -second- install the NGX without anything else? Bert Van Bulck
