Word Not Allowed, Tubular Bells? Well that takes me back! Listening to now. So I have HT on and AM=252 and FPS is okay. I have set target to 30. I'm running at full resolution 1980x1080 so where do I go from here? I need to over clock for sure but how can I get started without frying my CPU? Please be patient with the Newbie (me). Praying.gif
Good to know you got running at 4. That's nice for the 920.Tubular Bells and Songs of the Distant Earth. Can you believe, I even own a CD to the latter one!!

4GHz isn't unusual for the i7920 DO. I've had mine at 4.3 stable. With a D14.I may have a good overclocker of course, a good one out of the speed bin.Not sure what the percentages are but 4 is plentiful it seems according to the forums.I would say the bad overclocking chips that can't get 4 are in the minority. Most that can't get 4 either have cooling issues, or incorrect settings for their system. With so many variables to play with it's not easy to definitively state a chip is a good or bad overcloker. May simply be a variable for that chip hasn't been explored. [Like my multiplier]

A lot of the c0's never reached 4ghz. Most of the d0's did. And I do not have cooling or config issues.

Mine did 4.2 without a fuss. That was one great chip. Also the mobo did 200, which was nice for ram, had it straight on 1600.

That shouldn't be the case in the sim Richard, as discussed above.HT on should not give you better performance in the sim. Just more heat.

HT on for me also HT off = lower performance
Impossible. Incorrect settings.

What settings are incorrect that you refer to my machine is running fsx great, but turn it off no way so please let me know what I am doing wrong ? thanks.

I bet it does run great. It is a good computer for FSX.There is no situation in this world where FSX is going to run better with HT-on.The problem is with your affinity mask setting not being applied correctly and I bet it's to be found in the fsx.cfg.

Ah Word Not Allowed great I will take any tweak I can get my hands on have to head home now from work but would be interested in what I should change affinity mask to I believe its at 63 right now ? is that it shut down HT and find a good affinity mask number anything else - also what will I gain will I see better fps or just less heat, thanks a lot.

I use hyperthreading but I have other uses for it like rendering models in 3DSMax, would you recommend turning it off when I fly or just leave it on since I never exceed 62C at 4.8GHz after flying for 4+ Hrs?

Leave it on. 62c is a perfectly fine temperature

HT off, max possible overclock (HT off is going to give you more upper edge) + affinity mask 62 with i7-970.HT-off.If you insist HT on, then AM 1364.
