Carenado Sale!

The only problem I have with the F33 is that the reflections in the windows on the exterior model are perfectly white as can be seen below, and the area around the wing tips look the same too. This is only with HDR on.xp1hdr.jpgxp2hdr.jpgI also noticed that the prop spinner reflection/shine changes depending on whether the avionics switch is on or off. Both these below shots are with HDR off so its not related to HDR. This is probably more likely a issue (Carenado's fault) that is present in XP9 too, although I no longer have XP9 installed to confirm.Avionics offavionicsoff.jpgAvionics onavionicson.jpg

Andy,The reflection is a "trick". OpenGL does not support reflections in the same way DirectX does. There is another way to make reflections in X Plane now, but the prop spinner will have to be re-done with this new method.I can't really mention the original "trick" here as it's not widely known how to do it, and only a handful of developers know how to do it, but turning the avionics on and off is a side effect of it.The method is actually quite clever.

For the windows, try turning off pixel shading.

Just checked my F33A and I get the shine OK with the avionics switch on or off, doesn't make any difference. With HDR on I get that white reflections too. if I turn HDR on the livery goes completely white. If I reload the plane. the livery is back OK again. With HDR on that white reflection is only on the glass on the sun side, but not the other, so it is an intense glass glare, as I move around the plane the glare goes away. I can switch liveries and things are OK. Turn HDR off and I get just a moderate sheen on the glass.

DonaldWhen you turn the avionics off, are you turning the MASTER avionics off or JUST the radios?Try starting the sim with a cold and dark cockpit.I actually tried this on one of my test aircraft where I was experimenting with the reflections, and the reflection turns off for me with the MASTER avionics off.

I turned the avionics switch off, Will try a dark and cold cockpit. to see. Actually I am going to take the F33A out and try reloading it from the original zip file as I seem to be the only one with the wheel doors not closing. That leads me to believe that I have a faulty installation or something is amiss in my computer system. It seems to be on my end.

That'll be real interesting to see if the reflections stay on for you when you have the master avionics switch turned off.

Yup that fixes the total white out reflections, thanks, what am I losing by turning this off though?

Cheers, Andy.

I tried this with a cold and dark start, I still can't see much difference, the spinner still gets a shine with avionics off or on. Turned all switches off and still seems OK. With HDR on, I still get a reflection, though it seems to be much reduced with HDR on. .On another note I solved the problem, of my wheel doors not closing. I reloaded the Bonanza file from the original download. I guess I originally put the F33A into ver. 9.70 then copied it over from there. Must have made a small corupption in the file.

I am finding nothing imho opinion to use hdr expect about 6-7 fps more by not using it. I found the same window reflections with hdr-didn't see much change in out the window views during day. It was said the main improvement was night lighting-all I saw there were strange halos around lights and repeated square lighted textures all over the ground which to me was not an improvement at all to the great night lighting. So off all those remain on mine till proven otherwise!

The halos under light sources are a neat effect, but they're a little too aggressive for my taste and make the lights look overly bright, so I actually prefer night scenery without HDR.

I think I know what you did, you ran the Carenado F33 through the new XP10 plane maker, I just tried it to see if it would fix any problems I was seeing and it actually created the problem you were having with the gear doors remaining open. I will now revert back to the downloaded version of the aircraft as running it through plane maker does nothing to improve the aircraft it only makes it worse. This is the first time I have ever bought an add-on aircraft for a sim before I actually owned the sim itself (I'm still using the BETA Demo and waiting for my disks to arrive), lol. The F33 is definitely worth it though for less than a tenner in the sale.

That was it EXACTLY Andy. thanks for that information. I have all of the Carenado Planes. I don't know why, You should probably pick out one and fly it exclusively just to learn the systems. On the other hand not many of us can afford to fly just any plane we want to in real life. LOL So many planes, so little time.
