How MS should have done this.

therefore you'll probably not see a Flight 2 for some while.
Probably, never! Just as there was no Microsoft Bob 2, Microsoft Windows ME 2 or Microsoft Windows Vista 2.

One of two things will happen:1) Flight will fail and Microsoft will realize their mistake and retool it as a true simulator for the hardcore enthusiast.2) Flight will fail and Microsoft will decide that flight simulators are not a viable market and will pull the plug on the whole operation.Given Microsoft's slash-and-burn business sensibilities, 2 is the most likely.

MS needs a return on investment PDQ.They've had a team of developers working on Flight for 2 years now which is money going out. They will still be employing that team even after Flight is released so there is still more money going out. They are going to release MS Flight and give it away for free so no money coming in there.MS needs to sell enough DLC to cover the costs of 2 years development as well provide a steady stream to cover the ongoing costs of DLC development. If this isn't happening within 3 months of Flight's release then ... Well, let's just say that MS isn't in the business of pissing money up against the wall.

You know it looks bad now for the hardcore simmer and I have to agree with the reaction, but I can't say it's all doom and gloom. Not sure why people think Flight is dumbed down because there are gaming elements and may be an easier way to fly if you choose it? How can you say Flight won't be a challenge to hard core simmers do you have proof? No. It also looks a hel'ov a lot of fun too!
The problem is that the "gaming elements" are all that there is! Even the so-called "Free Flight" is gamey. The proof for me were what my own two eyes beheld...I used the past tense on purpose, as I was blinded (perhaps permanently) by the horror of discovering that indeed, the Emperor has no clothes!Truthfully, MS didn't just moon all of us, they starred us!

I don't fall for the idea that just because Flight failed my expectations I will need now to run and replace it with something else or worst yet, throw my support with my hard earned dollars to other vendors. It doesn't work like that. I tried XP long ago and didn't like the concept at all. For what I can see and heard nothing has changed. I agree, $120/yr is way off the top for a lovable hobby.MAB
120 per year is not much for entertainment.Taking the GF out for a nice evening may cost more than that at times. Going to a professional sporting event cost way more than 120.Good thing you never got into the car hobby.. when i was racing it was nothing for me to drop 10g at a time into the car.. and I am a mechanic by trade so I did all my own laborI spent more than 120 in fuel per trip to the track.. LOL I think it would have been cheaper to get my PPL and IFR rating than drag racing wasI am not wealthy by any stretch but 120 in a year is not a lot of dough. For the amount of time spent enjoying this hobby I think just about all of us can swing that. that's about 33 cents a day.. Any adult living in the first world should be able to afford that. hell you could find 33 cents each day if you look around though out the day.

And so dressed, he spends all his waking hours playing with Flight! :Big Grin:Cheers,- jahman.
Let's put that another way:$120/yr is awfully expensive for FSX 2.0 when there are considerably less expensive alternatives.
Like the $79 for X-Plane you mean by any chance?

The only people enjoying the ms flight release are the xplane fans. And xplane certainly does have it fans. They both seem very happy with it.
