Microsoft has told: - "The base is still a globe, it’s just that there is not enough geography yet. But they would rather launch now and not have everything than wait and let the product age. This also helps keep the download size down."Would you not prefer to see the baby grow - instead of meeting the final adult? That will be a part of the "game".... :(
Lold, Flight will never grow to adult sizes as it will not include whole Earth.

never mind..

This got me thinking.... is FLIGHT a 3D globe with only HAWAII textures....ORIs the world of FLIGHT basically a FLAT earth and so each locale is its own enclosed area? This reminds me of the movie "The 13th Floor"... maybe we can fly, drive and swim to the ends of the world in that sports car ICON A5 thingy? One of the missions could be: Make your avatar become self-aware and try to escape the FLIGHT MATRIX. Maybe Columbus was onto something... perhaps he got a glimpse of the future... that why there were afraid to fall of the world if they ventured too far into the oceans.
It's a globe.

It's a globe.
It is a flat picture of a globe.
So what happens when someone turns on unlimited fuel and tries to fly to the mainland?
Probably hits invisible wall and dies.

The Death Star and Darth Vader is dead. Long live The whole Earth. :(

There is no unlimited fuel option. There's no slewing, and you can't give yourself a 150 knot tailwind either. So you will indeed run out of fuel long before you reach the mainland.I'll elaborate on the details in a more humorous post, but from what I can gather, the entire globe is in the game, and the rest of the landmasses are represented as an extremely low resolution, crude place holder. I'm sure that will probably change as the user is not intended to be able to make it that far.

So hypothetical, (not asking you to break any NDA or whatever) what if a third party dev wanted to create a futuristic plane that could fly at hypersonic speeds and used very little fuel? Would we gamers be able to fly to "no mans land" or will somehow the game force us to turn around? Or given that all third party addons go through MSFT, perhaps they won't allow big, fast, fuel efficent planes in the first place? One of Star Trek's prime directives is not to make contact with pre-warp civilizations. Perhaps Microsoft will impose a similiar rule like no addon can exceed MACH ONE?
I speculate MS will add jets before other third parties can if they can. They'll simply see a lower resolution version of the sceneries they don't have. They'll see some sort of placeholder.

Microsoft says: - "The game is built on an improved legacy engine, for large scale scenery support. The base is still a globe, it’s just that there is not enough geography yet."The application "FS2004 Add-on Scenery converter" converts MS Flight Simulator 2004 and FSX add-on scenery packages to X-Plane DSF overlay scenery packages. Why can't Microsoft converts and update "FSX-globe" --$$--> "Flight-globe" (missing the knowledge)? :(
So basically this will be a really LOCKED down GAME in every sense of the word? NO SDK. Locked down to third party devs. Can't even slew... can't go supersonic. Can't have big jets... Everything goes through the FLIGHT APP STORE as a DLC? And due to the earth now being the size of the moon or smaller, all the planes that exists in the FLIGHT universe will be structurally constrained in a top-down manner to fit the criteria of "small island flying", "casual gaming", "coin collecting", "and milking DLC, flight store, etc"?FAIL.Even casual gamers won't buy into these restrictions.
There is no basis to say this. The world is a globe, because FSX added round Earth to FS9 and Flight is based on FSX. This globe is currently 99% water with a tiny island - presumably in its correct position.MS can release the entire land surface in numerous ways at various levels of detail. We don't know the exact plans, but clearly, if the game were only for VFR tourism of small places, it would have been out a long time ago. There will be jets, you can bet on this. What we don't know is who will make these add-on scenery and planes and at what quality. Many people will be happy with MS and Abacus quality and that will leave many of us with FSX for serious flying. There is no reason to think that Flight will not have 100+% of visual quality of the best FSX add-ons, but it is far harder to see why such a game would strive to have even 8_0% of the simulation quality. Complex add-on planes are like supercars...to go 10mph faster you have to double or triple the price.Everything now depends on the cost and quality of the add-ons. This is where Flight will either be a success or an utter failure.

Not another one. I am losing hope, not with Flight, but the community. Base conclusions on facts, or don't conclude anything. MS has been quite vague, and unresponsive... Lots of peoples opinions are being based on speculation, and also buIIsh*t (excuse my French) and rumours. That never gets anywhere, other than misleading people. Simply put: WE DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING JUST YET, HAVE PATIENCE, WAIT FROM WORD FROM MS.(I thought I would make that REALLY stand out, as some people are still reluctant to read, or take notice of this.)I'm not a fan-girl of Flight, I'm also disappointed in some areas, but I base my conclusions from information which I know is from valid sources (MS's website, some Flight articles, and seen gameplay of Flight itself), any other source I simply dismiss as being false, unless proven otherwise. There are a lot of uncertainties at the moment, THERE IS A LOT THAT WILL CHANGE OVER TIME, ANYTHING CAN BE ADDED AT A LATER DATE (from a reputable Flight article), this means anything I wish was included, or want to be included, could be added to Flight in the future, I will be patient for those things. I do not expect everything at launch, as its basically unfinished (compared to past titles), MS wanted to release it this way, as it is a wiser business decision, helping to prevent the game becoming stale, plus they can continuously add new content over time, keeping things fresh.Just be patient, we will know more soon enough. :)*btw, when using the term 'game' it is an umbrella term, it also includes simulation and racing games, and everything in-between. Do not twist my words. "A video game is an electronic form of play that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device" - the definition of the word "videogame", game is the common shorthand for videogame. Just being clear. :)

There are too few women in AVSIM or even the hobby, percentage wise, but the ones we have are sure top notch! Thank you for your perspective.Kind regards,

Flyawaysimulations article states that they will not release whole Earth... And I doubt that they will release any PMDG quality planes for game that is meant for casual gamers mostly.
Can't even slew...
Funny how some people regard some functions (like slewing) as mandatory for a SIM while in fact they are nothing but cheats in a game. They are so used to what they had that they can't observe things objectively anymore. :(

It was useful sometimes when testing some buggy scenery and stuff but being too lazy to actually fly it in real time. Anyway with tiny area Flight will cover its not that mandatory.

"Some people rarely see what's right in front of them", "some will only see what they want to see", and some are just plain ignorant. blum.gifA concoction of quotes from movies and books I've read, merged into one. Very true.
