January 21, 201214 yr So, I resisted FSX for 4 or 5 years, choosing to stick with FS9. But I had some money burning a whole in my pocket and wanted a new computer to run the new slug of games as well as possible. Figured I best make the switch to FSX at the same time.I spent $1150 on an i7 powered PC and other appropriate hardware. I got FSX Gold for only $29, but as we all know it's the third party stuff that makes MSFS great. So, I dropped another $450 on all my preferred add ons.... gulp.... Total expense of ~$1600, but I had about $500 in rebates, cash gifts, etc, meaning I really only spent $1100 of my own money.And my thoughts on FSX: uhhhh.... in general, I feel like I'm playing FS9. I don't really notice the subtle differences, but I'm aware that they exist: no fuzzy textures, UT2's traffic is a hugely improved, GenX and UT USA various improvements. All great add ons, but you have to kind of get into the details to see the big improvements. ActiveSky 2012 provides good weather, but I was hoping for more improvment out of the weather engine. The stuff I really notice when flying around seems unchanged from FS9 to FSX, for example, the weather as I already mentioned and of course the lame ATC (which I knew was unchanged from FS9).Anyway... in general I think the switch was the right thing to do because FS9 was getting very dated, I could no longer use new add ons like PMDG aircraft, etc. Would I have made this switch if it was only to run FSX? Absolutely not, it wouldn't be worth it at all. The extras that really influenced the change were Windows 7, DX11 for other games, and of course all the new games that I'll be able to play blazingly fast.Just my 2 cents from someone that held off for many years on the switch to FSX.James
January 21, 201214 yr I had FS9 fully tweaked out and it was great for IFR flights could barely tell the difference between FS versions, but VFR and the quality of FSX planes is where the big difference lies.
January 21, 201214 yr FSX is visually very nice, but at the same time buggy.FS2004 is still great for me. It is so reliable.Also Japanese scenery is available such as Tokyo (and Japan scenery which is no longer selling Tokyo and Osaka).But the scenery in FSX is better. If you use France VFR though then FS2004 is versatile!Daniel
January 21, 201214 yr You dont say exactly what addons you have, but there are some essentials that completely transform FSX and are generally considered 'must haves'....A good mesh, FS Genesis or FS GlobalLandclass, many options, I use Scenery TechTextures.... GEX for ground, FEX for everything elseIm sure others have suggestions Jay
January 21, 201214 yr Author You dont say exactly what addons you have...Jay, I have the good/necessary ones for my region: FS Global, GenX NA, UT USA, Ultimate Traffic 2, EZ Dock Camera, FSUIPC, Active Sky 2012James
January 21, 201214 yr Jay, I have the good/necessary ones for my region: FS Global, GenX NA, UT USA, Ultimate Traffic 2, EZ Dock Camera, FSUIPC, Active Sky 2012JamesThats a good start. If you really want to make FSX "fly', consider adding a landclass cause FSX default sucks, and definatly take a look at Ground Environment X and Flight Environment X, both will enhance your sim and work perfectly with your other addons. January 21, 201214 yr I would definitely not use GEX. They do several non standard things that might break other scenery addons. Johan Pettersen

January 21, 201214 yr Reference -> http://www.flightsim...7457#Post628135 Could you paraphrase in English? There's a lot of addons that change base files (textures etc etc)... you just have to be aware of it. I always save a backup of my texture folder after a fresh installation.Anyway I use GEX without issue - superb package for places that Orbx doesn't cover. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 21, 201214 yr Add me to the list of GEX user that loves it.No issues with other addon's and GEX (setting the ORBX panel to default before you install GEX textures saves any issues here). Al Stiff
January 21, 201214 yr Apparently its some sort of "autogen fix" feature in GEX that messes up the autogen. In some cases it places trees and houses on places where there should be none. Johan Pettersen
January 21, 201214 yr 'Hogwash' indeed!GEX is brilliant! NEVER been a problem for me and I've used it since day 1 Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

January 22, 201214 yr Here's another reference for you in english. And it _is_ caused by GEX.http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=91190 Johan Pettersen
