Anyone tried this 737 NG sound pack?

Featured Replies

I never flew in a 737 flight deck, but most people here who have (some are real pilots) say there's a noticiable difference between what you hear in the cabin and what you hear in the flight deck. I don't see why I shouldn't believe in them. I remeber one saying that even the sounds in the front-most seat of the 737 is different from the one sitting in the flight deck.

I have sat all over different parts of the cabin. I know the way that a CFM56-7B26 engine sounds like. :smile:Regardless of where you are in the plane, the engine still maintians it's pure sound. Just because you are in the cockpit doesn't mean that the engine is going to sound radically different. The NGX soundpack is good but the spool up sounds around 40-60 percent N1 don't even sound like a CFM to me..... It sounds to artificial to me and I feel that the TSS does a much better job of simulating this feature.
You may be right. next time I am on a NG I will try to get a seat as close to the front as possible and try to compare..

There is just something about the NGX sounds that aren't right... Can't wrap my head around it.

The sound in the flight deck is WAY different from the sound in the cabin. It's a lot more silent, almost like that one inch thick wall between the flight deck and the cabin is actually a 90 foot hallway. Trust me, the sounds are bang on.

Why would one want to use a soundset other than the original PMDG one with the NGX? The sounds are perfect! No butt kissing here. The are really good.

I think the NGX sounds are very good, and are probably very accurate. They went to painstaking lengths to get the engine sounds across the power range to match the actual pitch/tone/frequencies of the real 737. I won't touch TSS for this aircraft, although I do use them for the Leonardo Maddog.

For me I sticking with PMDG's default NGX soundset. I love TSS, but the differences you all are hearing between the two soundsets may just come down to how each developer recorded the sounds. For those of you who are only basing their assumptions of how the aircraft is supposed to sound from the cabin only, you may want to keep in mind there are 3 different engine variants for the NG series.Taken from PMDG's description of NGX - " Sounds - An uncompromisingly realistic soundset. Every aspect of the 737NG’s CFM56-7B engines is represented here, exactly pitch matched to real life recordings made at every 10% over the engine’s power range. Over 500 individual sounds exist in the product, all recorded with professional audio equipment in the real cockpit. Every switch and lever is unique and there is a separate “passenger view” sound set that is called up in the wing views and features sounds such as the flap motors and hydraulic pumps."TSS description -All enginesounds are recorded few feet away from the engines of CimberSterling & Primera 737`sBesides the real HD recordings of the engines, this sound also includes:

  • Custom Soundcones
  • Custom Wind
  • Custom Gear
  • Custom flaps
  • Custom Autopilot
  • Custom Stall
  • Custom Overspeed
  • Custom wheel rumble
  • and ambient cockpit sound, just to bring the experience up, from within the cockpit.

As a new feature, you will be able to have an external APU sound running, also with implemented soundcones

"The aircraft G-limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular airplane. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no G-limits."

And there you go. In my opinion, the TSS packs are targeted at people that want louder engine sounds in the cockpit, even if they are unrealistic.

It's been my knee-jerk reaction to buy TSS sounds when they are available for any payware aircraft that I have. I always have been happy with them, but I'm not touching my NGX sound. It's just too good.
