January 31, 201214 yr Last night I had a problem with flight idle N1 for the first time, having not previously experienced major problems slowing the NGX down. I always use the G key to retract the gear, and don't have any hardware controllers apart from my MS Sidewinder joystick. In this case, the aircraft was holding in level flight at about 3,000 ft with flaps and gear up, and VNAV selecting the clean manoeuvring speed (just over 200 knots), yet the aircraft would not slow down below about 220 kts. N1 was high for the clean condition (around 40%). Then I noticed I had left the gear lever was still in the UP position. As soon as I selected the gear lever to OFF (using the mouse) the idle N1 reduced to normal and the aircraft decelerated to bug speed.I could be wrong, but it looks to me as if the logic to determine "gear down" for flight idle purposes is gear lever "not OFF", rather than gear lever "DOWN". Maybe the real aircraft is wired this way too (though I doubt it). Anyway, for anyone suffering the high idle on descent problem, I suggest you check the position of your landing gear lever before descent. Make sure it is in the OFF position until you need the gear down in case you forgot (like me) to do so after takeoff. Edited January 31, 201214 yr by kevinh
January 31, 201214 yr Interesting find, Kevin. Can't wait to try it myself. Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules
January 31, 201214 yr I'll have to give that one a check for myself tomorrow. Good find!On a side note, what does 'Gear Off' actually do? I assume it just disconnects power to the landing gear? Edited January 31, 201214 yr by Tyler_J Regards, Tyler
January 31, 201214 yr Commercial Member If it is like the 747 'OFF' causes the gear to depressurize . Rob Prest
January 31, 201214 yr After takeoff and retracting the gear you always should have the gear handle in middle position. If its in the up position the Hydraulics won't shut off. Paul Deemer

January 31, 201214 yr I will try it, but I mostly put it on OFF position in each flight. I don't have anymore the issue, but if it works, you found the cause ;) Regards Andrea Daviero
January 31, 201214 yr Sorry mate, no change in my idle if lever is UP istead of OFF.But, it is possible that who suffers of the bug probably have the problem also if gears are in UP position.Hope that who is suffering of that will give you the right feedback. Regards Andrea Daviero
February 1, 201214 yr Author Yes, I have been unable to reproduce the effect myself but will keep investigating. Clearly it's not as simple as just the gear lever position, but that was certainly the last piece in the jigsaw for resetting flight idle when the problem occurred.
February 1, 201214 yr As for my problem with a missing font, it is possible that not all installations are the same. I will point in that direction. So, it could be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling. The best thing you could do, if the problem is present, is to make a video showing the throttle position, engine indications, and overhead panel status, save the flight and post the video plus the saved game sending a ticket to the support. I think is the only way to see what is wrong. Regards Andrea Daviero
February 1, 201214 yr I had a really slow climb yesterday that had me looking for issues (drag/engines etc). I found nothing, but as soon as I moved the Gear Handle from UP to OFF the bird accelerated back up to 250 (It was flying really slowly, like 160KIAS).I thought it must have been something odd I'd done, but now someone else seems to have a related issue.
