February 3, 201214 yr I always hate to see this happen:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-16866872 :( Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
February 3, 201214 yr I doubt it will be the last. Businesses that make consistent losses don't survive. Spanair failed last weekend. Edited February 3, 201214 yr by mgh Gerry Howard

February 4, 201214 yr My first ever jet flight was in their Tu-134 (EPWA->LHBP). What an experience!Later I have also enjoyed flights on their Tu-154, 737-300, 737-400 and 737-500.Goodbye, Malev! :( Hiányozni fogsz!

We very nearly did last summer when we went to Albania, but in the end Austrian worked out cheaper and more convenient. The only TU-134s and 154Ms I got to fly on were with LOT - which were always good fun.Great livery that Malev one. Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

Never been to Eastern Europe or Poland. In fact only been to Switzerland...Do you feel safe on the Tupolevs?Daniel
February 4, 201214 yr Author Sorry guys I have absolutely no idea how you feel. Never been to Eastern Europe or Poland. In fact only been to Switzerland...Do you feel safe on the Tupolevs?DanielI think the question should be 'did you feel safe' - LOT haven't used Tupolevs for quite a long time. But did I? Yes I did, but I'm not a real pilot or aircraft mechanic so whether I should have or not is a different issue. I don't belive LOT had any serious incidents with it's Tupolev fleet, although, of course, there were two terrible accidents with IL-62s. I always enjoyed my Tupolev flights - especially the noise :-) I did, however, feel a little concerned on a Balkan AN-24RV flight from Varna to Sofia once. The plane was so old and so noisy that i didn't feel 100% happy until we were in the cruise phase ;-) In April 1990 I flew Tarom to Bucharest from LHR in an ageing 707 and back in a ROMBAC1-11 - I must say that I felt happier in LOT's Tupolevs ;-) My next real life flight with LOT will be next Saturday from Warsaw to LHR in a shiny new EMB195. But now I'm off to sim world to fly my Yak40 from Budapest to Debrechen :-) Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
February 4, 201214 yr Kudos to posting this in the Hangar Chat. Some others couldn't care lessHey, Daniel, don't be so strict. Most of us have been around here for many years, selflessly sharing our knowledge and help whenever possible. The fact that we occasionally write someting not in the most proper subforum does not make us bad boys. :(Europe is not going to be a nice placeFor me it is and will always be the best place on Earth! Do you feel safe on the Tupolevs?Tupolevs are long time gone in Europe, except for some ex-Soviet states, and some military/government transport (soon to be gone too).So I can't say if I DO feel safe on Tupolevs (my last Tu-154 flight was 14 years ago), but I can tell you I definitely DID when I was flying them. Just like any other aircraft.Different engine sounds, that's for sure. I lover hearing the Soloviovs spooling up and down on finals.Actually, speaking for myself, the worst pax-unfriendly landing I had was on an A321, the worst turbulence was on a B744 and serious technical problems were on a few B737's.I can say all my Tu-134 and Tu-154 flights were smooth as silk. But it is the past now and I don't think I will board an Tuppie anymore.
February 4, 201214 yr For those of you (are there any, lol) who don't read Airliners.net forums. One spotter got a very interesting sight on flightradar24: a flock of 8 Malev 737's returning to the USA via Shannon last night.I would link the thread but I see AVSIM does not allow it for some reasons.
February 4, 201214 yr Sad time indeed. 'Malev' were regular visitors to Sofia Airport. It will be weird not seeing their planes anymore. One of the saddest things for me was when 'Balkan' were bankrupted during 2002.What's happening in Europe is ridiculous....... ..........Do you feel safe on the Tupolevs?DanielYes I did - they are among the best airliners ever.I really miss Balkan's Tupolev Tu-154s and Tu-134s (as well as the IL-18s, Yak-40s and An-24s).
February 13, 201214 yr For anyone interested, there is Malev parked in EIDW visible from the Swords side of the airport. Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. He's not hungry. June 2, 201412 yr I've been to Poland, Hungary and Slovak Republic in the last 12 months and I have nothing but the highest praise for the populace, even if I did not fly in Tupolev aircraft. Rick Almeida
