February 12, 201214 yr Anchorage is an awesome scenery but it is very hard on framerate.+1Especially if combined with UTX Alaska. Anchorage in UTX AK is hard enough on frames. Combined i'm getting like 10fps with the NGX or Malibu.
February 12, 201214 yr I don't see the Malibu and NGX in the same fps class, so to speak. The Malibu has little or no impact here so far.Well on the UTX Alaska + Anchorage case, you are correct. But one can tweak the UTX Alaska detail settings for the Anchorage area with the setup tool. With the very detailed airport running, you can reduce the UTX detail a lot and regain those fps. I've operated the Concorde X, the A300 and MD-11 a lot in and out of PANC and it really helped.
February 12, 201214 yr Author So what's the bottom line with the Twin Otter? I really like realism (of course), but a lot of people say it's a great product--thus I'm not sure whether to buy it or not. (And I'm not even so much asking if it's better than Anchorage X or Antarctica X, but whether it's a good-quality product period) Thanks! -Bram Osterhout

Still worth the admission price.Don't forget to crank up the speakers :( AVSIM Staff ReviewerBush Is Good!
February 12, 201214 yr I can only recommend the Twin Otter. It was the first plane I bought for FSX and I still fly it. In my opinion it has fantastic sounds, it is big fun when flying Bush / VFR and besides the good variety of models (Wheel, Ski, Float, Skydiver Version) you get 2 Cockpit Versions (one with steam only and another one with a modern KLN90 GPS which is really very complex and needed me to read the manuals thoroughly to understand all the built in functionality). As someone mentioned above this plane is pretty simple to start up and you cannot fry the engines, but apart from that it´s a fantastic plane which I enjoy to fly even after years. The short field performance is fantastic and you can even do deep dives with the props in reverse (I heard that some Pilots do this to get back to the ground quickly after the Skydivers are out to pick up the next load ,but I´m not sure if this is really true). Ah yes, and the sound... I love it :-) Edited February 12, 201214 yr by buedi
February 12, 201214 yr Aerosoft's having a sale that includes a few products I've had my eye on, but I'm not sure which would be the best one to get. Out of these, which would you recommend? I'm mainly trying to choose between Antarctica X, Anchorage X, and the Twin Otter. The Twin Otter looks really good, but I don't have any addon scenery, and I've been wanting to start building up my scenery library. What do those of you that own these products think?Thanks,boeing247I'm not very experienced at FSX (just flying for two months), or fly anything else but jet commercial airliners (and always with glass cockpits) (I don't like anything else), but having bought a few things with this offer, I can say that Anchorage X is really superb, and also Stockholm-Arlanda is also very nice).
February 12, 201214 yr I'm on my way to PANC now in the 737-300, flying the Highway Visual to 25R. A treat with that scenery. As said, Aerosoft's PANC is a nice spot to land at.
