February 13, 201214 yr Oops. Okay I'll give that a bash, thanks. You will see a big improvement in FPS the real test is if you set up can run stable with the setting if it does then that's great news. My old GTX280 could never run it but my GTX460 has never had a problem so I always use this tweak.
February 13, 201214 yr After further testing...With clear weather I see no increase in FPS at all. However, with heavy weather, major thunderstorms, I see...An average of 10 frames per second increase. Or in other words, an increase in average frame rate of 40%.I need to test for stability now, as you say. Hopefully the EVGA GTX580 can handle it. Edited February 13, 201214 yr by martin-w
February 13, 201214 yr Well that was worth the effort.Piper Jetprop in major thunderstorms, full overcast, REX clouds... 35-53 frames per second. And frame rate set to unlimited and zero stutters. Even the NGX had high frame rate and no stutters.I think I'm a bufferpool convert.Hopefully it remains stable.
February 13, 201214 yr Can anyone tell me where Usepools=0 puts us with regard to VMAS? Does this take us toward OOM errors if we are running max settings? Daniel Fernandez
February 13, 201214 yr @Tom et @Paul,Thanks for your input and very clear explanation. Its the first time in so many post talking about those tweaks that I really grabbed (I think) the relationship between them.I will give them a try for sure. PierreP3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...
February 13, 201214 yr Hi After building my new rig i have introduced some tweaks, namely HIGHMEMFIX=1 and[bufferPools]RejectThreshold=131072 but after introducing UsePools=0 i am now haveing horrible spikes, i would say my frame rates are smoother but I have horrible spikes. What is possibly causing this and how can i fix it. Cheers Shaun

If you simply put RT=131072 without defining BufferPools=0 or 1, or UsePools=0 or 1 (equivalent) the function will assume you are using a pool: i.e. BufferPools=1 (or UsePools=1). In your case it sounds like you need a pool with a small RT. What speed is your proc? February 13, 201214 yr Can anyone tell me where Usepools=0 puts us with regard to VMAS? Does this take us toward OOM errors if we are running max settings? Can't definitavely say it would improve on or lessen the chances of an OOM, Dan, but I would suspect that that would be the case: The default condition is a pool of 8MB and no RT: If we can run with no BP, then we've got back 8MB, and sped up the overall graphics process: that would imply that there's more time available for housekeeping - so I would expect a lower likleyhood for an OOM to occur.Bryan's suggestion to diminish flashing also works, too - in fact I believe this "tweak" to be an FSX 'must have'.Set water to 1 below max, but that does not always work if you have lots of cloud cover with high AA settings.Bryan. February 13, 201214 yr I reckon that you should be able to run with a BP of 0, Shaun: 3.2 is a pretty slow proc and the 470 is a pretty good card, so '0' aught to to work fine. The issue thatyou have to overcome is the 3.2 gig proc speed: it will not allow very high graphics settings without stuttering, as FSX can still bring a 5-gig proc down below a smooth 30fps. I would try this below, adding the other extras in to the cfg, while bringing most sliders to 60%: I think your water has to remain at 1.x High.[bufferPools]UsePools=0[Display]TextureMaxLoad=6UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=25[Main]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.18TriLinear=1[Terrain]TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1400TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=2000..and then wind back the 'known' frame killers, initially all traffic, simple clouds, and weather. It will take some work, and you will need to decide what is acceptable. If you can o/c the proc - anywhere over 4-gig, things will change in a hurry!
