PMDG or Wilco 737

Featured Replies

I have the PMDG B737 for FS9 which I downloaded a long time ago but never really used as I'm not that much of a heavy iron flyer but also the system I owned then wasn't up to handling all the graphics properly.I think that Wilco's B737 is a newer offering and so I am wondering what people's views are on the two. Would I have a better plane to fly if I bought the Wilco one or am I just as well of with the PMDG version? Thanks for any info,David

Talking about 737, take some good advice and choose iFly 737NG series. You will fall in love with it. If not, they will return your money within 30 days.

Also note the Wilco 737 is a different 737 series. Those are the -3, -4, and -500 classic whereas the PMDG one, if complete,is the newer generation -6, -7, -8, and -900 NG.The interiors differ by quite a bit as do the panels.cheersJP.

Hi RafalYes, I have noticed the iFly 737NG, and it seems to be excellent, but the installation is via the Flight1 wrapper system which I don't like. I fully understand and agree with the anti-piracy reason for that system but I won't download anything that ties me into a PC-specific activation. Some years ago I expressed a view in a forum which a third party developer did not agree with and they subsequently refused to activate my purchase - and I lost my money too! To be fair, about three years after this they did re-activate my purchase and gave me some compensation as well but, as they say, once bitten twice shy ....!David

I guess I understand you, David, but I can tell you I have a large number of products installed via the F1 wrapper and never ever had an issue. What is more, by discarding the Flight1 wrapper you miss a lot of great flightsim stuff. Your choice, sure, but maybe give it a try. No problem, really! But if you don't, anyway, I personally would not go for Wilco and stay with the old PMDG. The 737 PIC is a rather average product. When I wrote a review of it seven years ago (!), I gave it a good score but from today's perspective, I see it differently. It probably is one of the best Wilco ever sold (thanks to FeelThere) but still nothing top notch. The VC is flat and ugly and the models look weird. The best advice I can honestly give you is in the first lines of the post. I'll leave it to you.Sometimes we are stubborn until one day... :( (I was like that with flying in the VC)

I would also say that you are missing out on big time by not wanting to use the wrapper, imho, flight 1 has a really great system going. The ifly is at the top of the fs 9 737 birds BY FAR!!! the PMDG was good for its time but cant really compare to the ifly. But again as rafal said, if you are weary of using the wrapper, theb by all means dont, having said that i would stick with the pmdg. just thought Id chime in on the IFLY 737, as it would be a pitty if you are in the market for a 737 but are steering clear of it due to the wrapper.P.S I have no ties to IFLY or flight 1 at all, just a very very happy customer of both.

OK, guys, you're tempting me now!But one further question first, if I may ....My system is Win 7 32bit, Intel i5-2400 processor running at 3.1Ghz, 4mb RAM [OK, only 2.92 is useable] and an nVidia GTX560 Ti card. Is this going to be enough to run the iFly 737 smoothly? Thanks!David

I am sure your system is fine enough! :good:Apply the 3GB switch and you are cleared for takeoff.

Hi DavidI totally agree with the above advice. The Wilco 737 is a dated product and never reached its potential even when it was new.The iFly737 has set the bar for everyone else to try to equal.Ian

Cheers, Rafal!David

And if for whatever reason it doesnt run as you woukd have thought( which im sure you will have no issues) they offer a 30 day refund policy ;). So absolutely nothing to lose whatsoever.

The FS2004 PMDG 737, is an old one (It's still good but dated), The new 737NGX is only for FSX, so I agree the best option for a 737NG for FS2004 is the Ifly 737. I have both the NGX and the Ifly 737NG for FSX (I'm primarily a FSXer), while it doesn't quite top the NGX, it does come close and for FS2004 it's better then anything else out there for a NG!

Thanks

I fully agree with all others. The FeelThere 737 Classic is nice but PMDG 737 is much better regarding system modeling and flight dynamics.Nevertheless by far the best 737 today available is the iFly 737.But if you don't want to use the Flight1 wrapper (never had any issues with it) stick with the PMDG.
