If it wasn't for 3rd party developers fsx would never be where it is today...
If it wasn't for 3rd party developers MS would have never developed Flight.
Microsoft not only spend tons of money on an engine, but also on a convient SDK for outside developers aswell.
Not nearly as much (by a factor of a 100 maybe) as they spent on developping Windows and the Win 32 SDK.
Back then a pubic, free-for-all SDK made sense. Today, it doesn't. Times change, it's different now - thank Apple :)
That's one of the reasons I will never, ever, buy a product from Apple.Cheers,- jahman.

What we need is competition. If only X-Plane was much better than it is right now MS would consider listening to the flight sim community as nobody would play around with their overly expensive dlc game. At the beginning I was hoping to see much more in the beta. But it turns out to be like what we all know. Also they forget that the computers are getting more and more powerful and almost all major addons are already made for FSX. So people will use it for the next 10 years!
Overly expensive? One, single, A2A aircraft costs more that the Hawaii pack and the Rv-6. Give me a break.
So people will use it for the next 10 years!
That is more optimistic than saying that Flight will succeed! :( If Flight indeed fails and MS abandon their franchise, we might see XP overtaking FSX over the next few years if development goes well. LM's P3D is a viable candidate, but at a much steeper cost.

Provide facts to support this.
Not nearly as much (by a factor of a 100 maybe) as they spent on developping Windows and the Win 32 SDK.
And they'll see less than back, by over a factor of ten.

The rest of this year will probably be the most interesting year for flight simulation. When Flight is out and everyone has had a look, things might become more clear for everyone concerned.FSX is still the main sim but let's not forget who actually owns it.The next few weeks should be very interesting and the forums will be hopping. After the dust settles we will all be the wiser.Fred.

Simple fact, it's microsoft's software and they can do what they want with it. They don't need you, never have.

I'm afraid the dust won't be settled for months to come. :(

At least Flight will be or is already a failure for those who enjoy only flying the NGX and complex aircraft, for example. :(

Let's see how many time you'll use flight before it gets boring. I was only able to use it for 30 mn since 2 months!

They are already grounded, the people operating them are all here for the heated discussion on how to get back in the air. :(

That's a bit like saying..........they're McDonalds burgers and they can do what they want with them.. They don't need you, never have.Whose gonna eat them ? The staff are sick of burgers I'm sure !!

I hope they will make the Caribbean Islands next... But wait, Are you going to fly over the water from Hawaii to St Maarten? and with what airplane? NGFlight?

So they do agree to 3rd party developers under certain conditions. I was under the impression they were not interested in 3rd party developers. So it is more of the 3rd party developers not interested with the deal. Maybe when the numbers of potential customers come into play interest may evolve.

Last time I checked, MS made their money by selling software to customers.Cheers,- jahman.
And you get to turn your code over to MS and you have to jump through all their hoops just to MAYBE get something accepted.
This will likely kill off many devlopment groups in their primitive stages.
