This will likely kill off many devlopment groups in their primitive stages.
TBH, at this point in time we've heard from two payware developers who did not like the deal. But we don't really know what the deal was, is or will be. One side of the story is not enough for me to pass judgement. I don't know that we will hear from the other side what their proposals were and why they were not able to come to an agreement.I don't know that if I were to ever produce something that MS/Flight wanted and the terms were as has been described that I would still not look at the profit possibilities and say, OK! But I've always been a cheap date...

The requirements for Microsoft software certification are at the Microsoft website for anyone to read. We don't need to know what the deal was because it is there to read. There is no bargaining, proposals, or agreements.

That's a bit like saying..........they're McDonalds burgers and they can do what they want with them.. They don't need you, never have.Whose gonna eat them ? The staff are sick of burgers I'm sure !!
THey are mcdonald's burgers and they do, do what they want with them. Do you realize how unhealthy that stuff is?
Last time I checked, MS made their money by selling software to customers.Cheers,- jahman.
and does one need to be a simmer to be a customer? nope. They don't need simmers. They need customers.
Let's see how many time you'll use flight before it gets boring. I was only able to use it for 30 mn since 2 months!
still playing it, between sessions in Forza 4, Skyrim, and many others. I still play CFS 1 from time to time.
They don't need simmers. They need customers.
You're just playing with words.Cheers,- jahman.

Wrong. All simulators are, by the english definition, video games(as much as the old farts hate it):http://dictionary.re...owse/video+game
any of various games played using a microcomputer with a keyboard and often joysticks to manipulate changes or respond to the action or questions on the screen.
However, not all games are simulations.Microsoft needs customers, not simmers. And there are more average gamers than simmers ;)Their product, they will do what they will with it.

@Gundamnitpete - Do you work for Microsoft? You seem to defend them at every turn. I disagree that MS can do whatever they want, especially where its video game sector is concerned: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Video-Game-Sales-Plummet-zacks-3099676444.html?x=0Even if they are well funded, their stock price has on the average (obviously with ups and downs) stayed in the $30 range since 2000. (Unlike Apple ~$90 in 2008 to $509 today). All it takes for the biggest companies to fall is to release a couple of misguided products in a row that consumers don't want. Microsoft has released many misguided products in a row.

If it wasn't for 3rd party developers fsx would never be where it is today... Don't forget those making the freeware stuffs and everyone should respect their work as well.
The thing with freeware is that it's motivated by pure interest and enthusiasm, rather than by executives looking to maximise shareholders' profits. Freeware from the enthusiasts has often led to quality payware projects such as the LevelD 767 which started out as a hobby from a Lufthansa pilot. This whole development culture that had grown around MSFS has been wiped out with an executive decision. Flight might be good for shareholders, but why should I or any other flight simulation user be interested in that? The wants of the majority may be what steers such commerical decisions, but inspirational products and works always have their roots in someone who makes things out of a love of the subject.Let's hope that MS see sense on this and open up the doors so that ANY developer can at least submit their work, and be allowed to brand and market it how they want. As apps for iPhone, for example. That seems to me to be a reasonable way of doing things.
