I said I wasnt going to get this until I got more familiar with XP, but I couldnt resist. Maybe Im a little overconfident, but Xplane is becoming more familiar to me in the last week and my tax return was a little better than I thought, so what the heck. Its an amazing plane, really nice to fly!Rob

That's aerosofts detroit, I took the version I had from fsx and just ran it through the conversion tool. It seemed to convert nicely with no issues from what I can see.Rob

Rob,These are just fantastic shots! And can I ask what 'conversion tool' are you making reference to?Thanks,Jean-Jacques

I used FS2XP and it seemed to convert very nice. Eveything is textured and the city fit perfectly where it should. I didn't have to do anything else, it just worked! These are in XP10.Rob

Yes-the Detroit scenery sets a new standard!

It's funny, the best looking scenery in X-Plane is actually FSX scenery!!
Have you seen "RealScenery"?Arguably, the best scenery for X Plane. And it's not converted FSX scenery.

The RS Oahu package I reviewed last year is a very good scenery add-on.However the converted Aerosoft Detroit includes custom autogen and buildings as well as customized populated airfields which makes it quite appealing.I would suggest seeking Aerosoft's permission to share that conversion beyond your own usage. The freeware MSFS conversions I have seen hosted all appear to have sought and been granted permission for use by the respective original designer.**edit**Great shots by the way. That CRJ is a great-looking aircraft and I'm happy the kickback from Uncle Sam let you enjoy XP that much more :(

You're right it is nice, but it's photo real scenery, and really is no better then that available for FSX! In fact Sim Savvy covers the entire US with 50cm scenery in FSX. It also offers X-Plane scenery now, but areas are limited currently. Here is their Youtube Page which shows sample in all 50 states, as well as the ones available for XP. As with all photo real scenery some better then others, depending on it's source.http://www.youtube.com/user/SimSavvyWorld

It's no secret the scenery market (and aircraft market for that matter) is not as popular in x plane as it is in FSX. It's been said before, X Plane is nowhere near as popular as the MSFS franchise. That makes it hard for developers to make this stuff full time. But more popular doesn't necessarily mean "better". (My opinion. Don't shoot me for it!)X Plane users were pretty much forced to do conversions. I hear Kai Tak took the FlyTampa guys about 14 months of full time development. That's a long time to go without income for the average x plane developer.Hopefully, now, the FSX developers can see what X Plane is capable of with regards to lighting and showcasing their scenery packages, that they will make the move to INCLUDE x plane and join other x plane scenery developers to start pumping out some scenery. Plenty of room for developers AND more than one flight sim.Apologies for continuing this scenery discussion in the CRJ thread!

Does XPlane night lighting still work in the Detroit conversion?Thx

The buildings themselves do not light up at night (like window lights etc..) The streets around them are lite up. Im sure if Aerosoft converts it properly, they will get that working.Ive posted some more shots in the Screen shot forum of Avsim.Rob

Very nice pics. I am thinking of getting the CRJ at the end of this month. Thanks for posting.
