X-Plane 10.04 Beta 5 (Coming Soon)

Featured Replies

X-Plane 10.04 Beta 5 (Coming Soon) ATC:

  • Controllers now issue altimeter settings to aircraft on handoffs, on descents OUT of a flight level and every 50nm when appropriate.
  • Controllers now expect aircraft to fly with the correct altimeter setting and also properly monitors aircraft at flightlevels expecting them to be flying at a PRESSURE altitude (with their altimeters set to 29.92). At this moment, the transition level for the WORLD is set to 18,000 feet as it is in the USA. In the future, this will vary based on region.
  • AI aircraft are spawned at more appropriate speeds. In the past, they were spawned too slowly which caused them to stall and lose altitude which caused ATC to constantly nag them to regain their altitude. This was the primary cause for radio congestion!
  • Improved taxi routings across the world so they're a bit smarter.

You could if you e-mail the right person. No promises that it would happen though.

Cool, time to make a list starting with the god-awful knob turning design.

So Jim, I think maybe your saying we should email you. I'm feeling something here. You have connections don't you?C'mon buddy, tell the truthBob

No, sorry. You should e-mail Austin or one of the other XP developers.

I was just kidding Jim. I was trying to be funny but it's not working very well. My wife is right. I am not funny.Bob

I'm enjoying the sim but simply hope for two tiny things; 1) Lower the intensity of the taxi lights from afar (blue taxi lights should not be so bright from 10 miles out...airports should be more difficult to spot), and 2) edit the blowing snow on taxiways/runways...too uniform and unrealistic! ; )Other than that, enjoying the sim! Agree, but go a step further and just get rid of it all together. Without snowy ground textures, there's not point in having it at all. I was doing some edits to a local airport today and thought how goofy the "waves" of snow look against a jungle green background, it's just looks wrong. We need WinterWorld for XPX, wish I knew how.Glen

Usually snow stays on the vegetation much longer than concrete or asphalt. Not very plausible.Bob

I was complaining about the Visual Approach Slope Indicator being too dim!! Filed a bug report, but in retrospect as a non-real-pilot I may ofbeen barking up the wrong tree. Any real pilot comments on the VASI intensity from say 3 miles out, real world vs XPX??Chuck

I too feel that the VASI and the PAPPI lights are a bit dim. X-Plane 9 looked to me to be about right. I have a bit of trouble picking the Visual Approach Lights out at 3 miles. To be truthful I don't know how far out in real life, as all the cheap planes that I can afford to fly don't have DME on board, but they always looked pretty bright to me quite a ways out. :smile:I never worried about the lights in real life, I was just glad to see them, when they were available. Of course we had to turn the lights on ourselves most of the time, so we were pretty close in at that.Perhaps GeofA or LAdamson will weigh in on the matter.

The 1st is landing.

This is a feature, not a bug, and probably not a priority to fix in the first year or X-Plane 10. Unfortunately the implementation of knob turning is left up to the author of an aircraft. As you will see, some aircraft require one to click and hold an arrow (this is a pain with TackIR), and in others one can "grab" the button with a left-click, hold, and move the mouse left-right or up-down to change the setting, that I find works quite well. This one is more difficult to implement if I understand it correctly. For knobs I use frequently, I map to joystick functions. Please don't perceive this a negative comment, but try to be more technically specific when explaining an issue, and drop sweeping statements such as "god-awful" (whatever that means). I am going to assume you would prefer a mousewheel scroll option as with FS to turn knobs?Best thing would be to mail Austin directly. If he thinks it is worthwhile, he may reply. Don't hold your breath though.
