Why is AVSIM supporting flight?

Featured Replies

I think you might have picked me up wrong on that !When I say it's payback time, I simply mean that if MS decide to let others develop for Flight, They (MS) will want a cut of the profits and a lot of control over how the 3rd party stuff is sold.I think MS have stated that they would want 30% and the products would have to be marketed through them.Just sounds like good business to me. I am in NO way anti 3rd party stuff. Some of it is incredibe !Fred.

Gentlemen:I stopped actual flying in 1980 (too expensive with a family on the way) but have been sim flying since 1984 (Sublogic, Tandy 1000 PC). I currently have a bundle tied up in FSX software and hardware to support my passion, and have, thank God, an understanding wife who hasn't divorced me..... yet. The sad fact,. however, is that my passion is becoming more and more inaccessible to the younger generations, as well as the average computer owner. Tweaks, tips, arcane fixes, config edits, addons that don't work no way no how, graphic card settings, CTODs, BSODs and the Damacles sword of a complete reinstall when the inevitable eventually happens all conspire to bar flight simulation from a far wider and younger audience.I find Flight intriguing. To say it is an arcade game is incorrect. The flight dynamics, scenery and sim smoothness are superior to FSX. Future upgrades, patches and expansions will be available seamlessly through the internet, they will be compatible and relatively hassle free. Reinstallation will be relatively straightforward. A new generation may grow to love flight simulation and then be willing to pay for the scenery, ATC, AI traffic and other addons which would transform Flight into a full blown simulation.Lon Duncombe
Well said, Lon, and I concur on all points, including the omnipresent risk of divorce due to FSX/computer tweaking obsession.I love my new i2500K/570GTX rig, FSX and my plethora of addons for it, including REX, GEX, ORBX, and a bunch of other Xs, PMDG, Flight1, RealAir, A2A, Aerosoft etc, etc, etc, and I'll continue to use them via the three VAs I fly with on the VATSIM network, etc, etc.BUT...I am being seduced by the ease of Flight...no need to launch TIR (yet, darn it), Shade, or anything else at the moment...just fire up Flight and fly amongst a very nice looking sky and terrain smoothly and without issue (so far :Praying: ). Very relaxing, these simple GA flights when the time or inclination to launch the full monty and its entourage isn't an option.

Fred, My apologies for the misunderstanding. FLIGHT is their baby and they can do as they like with it. My guess is that there will be enough of a market in FS9/FSX/ P3D addons to keep everyone happy for quite a while.

....In my not so humble opinion FLIGHT is simply not a serious flight simulator at this moment. And I find the question why AVSIM supports it valid. The fine people at AVSIM however make upo their own mind and decided to add it to the products they like to see discussed in the forums. A decision not to support it would not have surprised me at all btw.
Just 2 questions for you ?Have you done the six RV-6 landing challenges ?........if YES......Do you really still think this is not a serious flight simulator ?Just curious.Fred.

I cannot for one moment believe that MS will forever have FLIGHT as a closed system. The door will open for all of the commercial interests and FLIGHT will have a new direction. I believe that is unavoidable and that ultimately, it is a good news story for everyone reading this.
+1!
They are also going to have to make DLC available on a fairly regular schedule
And since MS don't have the necessary staff (small army needed) to do that, it follows that Flight will have to open up to 3PD as Tom says.Cheers,- jahman.
AVSIM is an organization for flight simmers. With Flight MS abandonded that market. So, why hasn't AVSIM abandoned MS?
The subject of this thread is entitled "Why is AVSIM supporting Flight?"As you say, AVSIM is an organisation for flight simmers.Flight is being used by flight simmers. Therefore AVSIM supports Flight.Simple logic, I think?David

See when the islands are no longer seen (without any nav aids you got to guess the distance).
Mathijs, when are you going to quit with the inaccurate comments? You've been told no less than twice already on Thursday that the nav aids are present and work. I have a great deal of respect for both you and your company's products, but this sort of continued restatement of a mistruth just makes you (and by extension your company) look bad...All I need to do is tune either NAV1 or NAV2 to get an accurate DME distance from the tuned station. By tuning two different stations, I can easily triangulate my position quite accurately as well should I need to do so.

IMO, "Flight" looks, flys (dynamics), and sounds better than FSX in a lot of ways.Just my .02.

Registering and getting banned all within two hours is NOT a record, but close. I have to worry about our world sometimes... With posts like his I have to wonder what our collective IQ is... to ponder that too far is scary. :Skull:
I fired a person for fraud yesterday and he called me today and asked if I could get him a job at another company. lol
