Question for the P51 dlc owners

Featured Replies

So far very suprised with Flight, and im am quite enjoying it thusfar. I would like to know of p51 owners for Flight, are their dedicated missions to fly with it (EX: Landing missions etc) or is it just a plane to use with free flight for the most part. I am aware that it is just an external model, but does that mean it has no VC at all? Thanks!

No VC at all. The only reason I have it is because I got it for free, and at least it will show up in multi-player instead of a flying arrow should someone else be using it...

No missions or challenges with it from what I can see. Likewise i've only got it because it was a free gift. I've still not actually flown it yet!

Thanks. I wonder why they didn't put a VC in it? I love warbirds so, i have to admit im tempted to get it - at least for aerocaches or landing challenges, but it sounds like a pass.

My guess would be, to see if an aircraft without a cockpit would go over well... now that, would be just a little too arcadish for my liking.

I have it, got it free.I will only use it to get the high altitude award, then to collect dust on the hangar.I guess they are just "testing user response" to a no cockpit aircraft; alias a kite. =)IMO: Such a well done model should come with a cockpit, no excuse for me.

For some reason, MSGS seems convinced that the "average gamer" prefers to fly from Spot View mode, so there's no point in including a virtual cockpit. That is the only reason for the P51 w/o cockpit... to see if it validates their reasoning. If it does prove popular, then they plan to offer every new aircraft in two versions, one with exterior only, the other (at higher cost of course) with both models.

I didn't expect to like the P-51, but since I got it free from beta testing, I tried it out. Turns out it's a lot of fun, even without a cockpit. One of the MS developers said that some people prefer flying from outside anyway. The P-51 is good for the High Flying Glider aerocache, and afterward you point the nose straight down with full power and collect the Mach 1 award. Pull up hard and get the high G award. When you're lined up with the runway and fairly close, go to the hanger and remove all the fuel and get the "silent and deadly" achievement for landing dead stick. Four goodies from one flight!Besides, it's nice to have an unobstructed forward view for sightseeing.Hook

The correct way for MS to test that theory would have been to offer the same aircraft in both versions and see if people still buy the RC-model-only version.By picking a highly desirable aircraft, the highest performance aircraft and making it the crippled version, they are skewing the test numbers because some people will buy the crippled version anyway because that's the only way it's available.

I can't fault anything with that observaton. Many of us pointed out the same thing during the beta... :help:

I bought the p51 because I thought it looked interesting and would be generally wonderful to fly. I do enjoy flying with the p51 but even though I am not very advanced I do wish it would of had a VC as I think the immersion factor would of been greater. I do like to fly with the outside view but sometimes when I get in a good groove I feel like no VC is a detraction rather than a tweak.

It's useless. I only used it for the high altitude aerocache, but there's no cockpit, no missions, nothing to DO in it. I did manage to get it above Mach 1 in a dive, though :).

The P-51 is useful for getting a blue ribbon on the timed climb event on the fly-in mission. :DHook

Now hang on a bit folks, it's not strictly an "outside of plane" control situation at all---by selecting the VC view (F9), you do get a straight ahead view as if inside the plane, but with no panel. However, there is that heads-up display data along the top, so you can fly the Mustang as if you were in the pilot's seat. Actually, if you select that view and then scroll 180 degrees backwards, there you will see your plane--you are actually perched about 5 feet in front of the plane! Anyway, you can fly the Mustang as if you were in the cockpit, and the full vista view is rather nice. Having said all that, I do agree with most of you that MS should really supply complete planes in the future.
