And now there are three...

HelloWell I do not need three of them so I will wait till they are all in the market and patched. Then make an informed decision, my days of buying every addon released have long gone.Only the very best as judged by the folks here now make it into my sim.

Amazing how true that is. When I found the payware market, the only good payware 737 for FSX was the Wilco 737 PIC(actually, I think Ariane was out, too). Now, fast forward now, and we have PMDG, iFly, Ariane, and now these new three...obviously for the 737 in general, not divided into individual groups.
It's interesting how on the eve of the Black Box 737-200 release Captain Sim post a major preview of their 737-200 and Mil Viz preview their hitherto unannounced 737-200. Also note how a month or two back when Just Flight announced their DC-6 PMDG announced their one very shortly after. Also note how the Mil Viz F-15E was followed fairly soon after by the Iris F-15E... how both Vertigo and Baytower put out a Van's RV within a relatively short space of time.As you say, great for customer choice, but I can't help but feel in the long term it's going to hurt everyone as the niche market can't support so many directly competing products. As far as classic jet airliners go, look at how many haven't been done at all in any real depth for FSX.... DC-8, DC-10, L1011, VC-10, BAC 1-11.....Now if someone would take it upon themselves to do a detailed rendition of one (or all!) of these in FSX they would certainly get my money. However, given how things have been lately if someone announced an FSX Tristar tomorrow I'd expect another two developers to announce their own Tristar the day after.

I think you will start to find that the payware groups are going to start shutting up more and more until they dont say a word about WIP (whats in progress) until release day due to all the competition.

and MilViz has produced only light aircraft.
Light? as in Light aircraft like a Cessna 310 with below a certain weight or Lite as in low on systems level? The T-38 and F-15E are not exactly light in that that they weigh more than most GA twins and the F-15E certainly isnt lite on the systems.....Especially the navigation system which is my pride and joy ;)

That is perhaps the problem. The JF/BB 737-200 was only very recently announced, and on the very eve of its release Captain Sim do a major preview of their model and Mil Viz announce their own 737-200 with screen shots.Coincidence?

I dont know. Milviz started like a year or 2 ago....I still remember getting early shots of the model along with strict instructions from KC to STFU OR ELSE!!! and i knew about the Captain Sim one but not the JF one. I think all were started around the same time and no one knew what the other was doing except that CS was doing one...Milviz just decided to show pics now that we are far enough into it to warrent displaying it.

I think I might for with the Milviz. The JustFlight 737 looks a bit bland, visually. I'll at least wait for the Milviz to be released.CS products generally just aren't for me, it seems. It's something about them that I can't really work with. I mean, I tried the cold and dark state in their 727 and found that the only thing that makes it cold and dark is that there is no power provided tro the plane. All switches are in their "normal" position though. Seemed abit fake to me. I would really like CS to invest in that kind of tools, which so many other developers have already adopted. Or does their 707 have a utility to change the panel to a real cold and dark state?

I can't help but think that yesterday's previews from CS and MV were prompted by the imminent release of the JF model. Now of course that's totally understandable - CS and MV would rather people hold off on the JF model and buy their own respective products. The real problem I think is multiple developers making the same aircraft in the same timeframe. It splits the market and hurts the developers' bottom line. Now we're often told the FS addon market is a very small niche market and the developers are feeling the squeeze because of piracy - in which case do we really need to make a bad situation worse by having developers release directly competing products? It's a tough one because I can't see what can be done about it - developers aren't going to reveal their business plans to one another. Ultimately though I think it's going to be self defeating.

AFAIK the 3 different models may satisfy different intrests. The Milviz model has all the variants. Just Flight doesnt have the cargo variant. Which variants CS has i dont know but i do recall that there are several variations between the 3 so it might not be so painful to the market....

From the looks of it, the CS and Milviz together offer the most complete range. CS does the -100, -200 and -200ADV and the Milviz just about all possible variations (crago, combi, rough terrain kit, passenger) of the -200ADV.

We have to make a choice... tell everyone we're doing a plane.. and then, deliver that plane in a "timely" manner and hope that no one does the same plane. We tried this several times and have learned that it's not always to our advantage to do so. For now, we're keeping our projects close to our chest mostly because surprise is a good thing. Especially when you consider what happened to us on the Eagle E.

Thats called Free Enterprise, Capatilism. Businesses hate capatilism/free markets because competition drives the market. pricing quality etc. If your going to compete you have to have an edge!

Very true. I watched with some disdain the rough ride you guys got from one individual on SOH who apparently didn't even own your F-15E. I'll admit I'm very much looking forward to your F-15C and your 737-200 will be the one I go for. I'm also looking forward to hear what your secret projects are

Which takes me back to my original point: By all accounts this is a niche market where nobody makes a great deal of money and everyone is feeling the squeeze from piracy. In such an environment is it ultimately self defeating to have multiple developers making the same aircraft in the same time frame?

It surely is. However, we had already started our 737 before CS announced theirs and by then, it was too late. We already tossed the A-10 and the Harrier... we couldn't afford to do the same with the 737. Besides.... she is very pretty... and flies just like a Boeing.... (and that's actually a compliment, for once...)

Well I'm sold on the milviz model, but depending on release dates I might purchase the captain sim model aswell. It's nice to see my favourite aircraft getting some love.

I just hope nobody includes any silly gimmicks to try and give them 'the edge'.'Ah yes, but ours has flushing toilets!'
