March 12, 201214 yr Hi all, this is my first post on the forum but I've been following the discussion on Flight for a while.I just wanted to give my two cents here:When I first fired up Flight I was sadly disappointed with what I saw, being used to my accumulated FSX add-ons and coming all the way from FS4. But when I gave it a go again a couple of days later I found myself shutting of my computer at 2 o'clock in the morning after hours of flying.I found it enjoyable to say the least. On the one hand, the sheer lack of DLC to choose from like we are used to from payware to freeware on various flight sim related websides puts me off to buy whatever comes available only for the sake of supporting the whole project, hoping some essential missing bits will be implemented. The two most crucial thing here are TrackIR and force feedback support. I know FFB being an arguable point here, as people like it and other don't, I always found it to deepen the immersion of flight. A good example are the Stearman Landing Challenges: With FFB you would have a pretty good perception about your approach speed, flaring and settling down the aircraft onto the runway. The lack of it requires to always check the dials or the HUD, which I don't like to use. But right now there is no other option. As for TrackIR, the need for implementation does not need any further explanation, as it's the most natural way to control your view in a flight simulation and the need of always looking around, find flying buddies, landmarks, look for traffic, formation flying, landing, taxiing, ... you get it, I guess.Once those two thing have been implemented, I'm sure that Flight will have a bright future among hardcore sim pilots and newcomers alike, as it has huge potential, it's hardware friendly and won't easily bloat as my current frequently crashing FSX installation.I only hope that Microsoft "invited" 3rd party developers to implement their work they did for FSX. I've just seen the F/A-18E Superbug by vrsimulations. On a side note, that's what I like to see. I don't need to blow things up, but the sheers amount of features on this add-on is truely amazing. I need carrier operations in Flight!!Once there a variety of addons to choose from I'll pick what's my cup of tea. That is, if the above is implemented. Essentials that have been in place for over a decade. Thanks for reading
March 12, 201214 yr Welcome to the forums Beezle!Regarding your dissappointment regarding Track IR and FFB , I encourage you to email the Flight team on this - I have been staging a big campaign on the Track IR feature. I understand it is on their " to do list", I am just trying to get as many to write them as possible to help maybe get it further up that list - and the same may be true for FFB implementation as well.Drop them a line at:[email protected]I too have been getting a lot of enjoyment out of Flight, and have been very pleasantly surprised - have had a few late nights myself. March 12, 201214 yr Heh, I was about to suggest that beezle paste his entire post into an email to [email protected] and dburne beat me to it!Lol, when Track IR is mentioned I am all over it! For me, flying without my 6dof Track IR and that little blue light smiling at me from atop my monitor, is like eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich except without the peanut butter! Yuckee! You guys will have to fill in for me tomorrow though as I am having surgery and will be away for a bit. Don B

Help us build this community right from the ground floor into something we can all be proud of. Like Don said, please take the time to write Microsoft and tell them your views on Track IR, and the force feedback. Let's take the attitude that we can help the Microsoft Flight team re-sort their priorities a wee bit.Kind regards,
March 12, 201214 yr I've emailed them suggestions, and posted on their daily news blog on the Flight website too..attack from all vectors! As long as we are coherent and straightforward with our requests and don't rant and rave, I'm sure it will all go into the melting pot..we'll just have to see what comes out the oven! March 12, 201214 yr When I first fired up Flight I was sadly disappointed with what I saw, being used to my accumulated FSX add-ons and coming all the way from FS4. But when I gave it a go again a couple of days later I found myself shutting of my computer at 2 o'clock in the morning after hours of flying.I found it enjoyable to say the least.Yeah same here, I'm just glad the free content included the Stearman because after initial install with no TIR and the simple A5 Icon I was ready to write off Flight as nothing here for a simmer like me, but I tried flying around in the Stearman and it felt pretty darn good and fun to explore the scenery low level, and after a few hours of that fun I got the Hawaii/RV6 DLC and have really been enjoying it.I think MS Flight set themselves up for a rough start with simmers (many of whom were predisposed to compare it to FSX) by not including TIR or one of the more hardcore planes in the free content, which is why many blew it off as a console title not for simmers, thankfully I stuck with it past those initial poor Icon/TIR impressions and am really enjoying it now despite the not ideal view system workaround. It has been confirmed by another poster here (Fr. Bill) that the TIR support is on their list to add, hopefully the email requests will give it due priority and we get it sooner than later. --John near KPAE
March 12, 201214 yr You TIR users, you're probably all aware but there seems to be a sort of workaround until MS do it for real (assuming they do) http://forum.avsim.net/tutorials/article/28-using-trackir-and-glovepie-with-flight/I'm not a TIR user so cannot comment on whether it works or not..bestjake JAKE EYREIt's a small step from the sublime to the ridiculous...Napoleon Bonaparte
March 12, 201214 yr This method uses Glovepie.. seems like their site was hacked? You can also setup trackIR with Joy2Key as well, I've outlined it here. Works for me!http://forum.avsim.net/topic/364256-i-can-use-trackir/
March 12, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the warm welcome, guys, appreciated! I've emailed Ms as you suggested, let's what happens. If they are actually acting upon the critique, I'm really looking forward to see how Flight evolves.

I need some time to figure out how this works if I get too frustrated... but the thing is, I don't want to use a work-around, since TIR has been around and supported as long as virtual cockpits exist. I mean you guys did is within a couple of days: you came up with a work-around. No big deal as it seems (I couldn't have done it ;)). My point being: Why not do it properly in the first place to save this working-around solution?! People get it to work anyway! That's the only thing that really frustrates me about Flight.
March 12, 201214 yr I have not tried the workaround, and probably will not - from what I understand it is limited - not quite the same as having native support. I am glad some have discovered and shared a way to get it working somewhat and I am sure they view it as better than nothing.I want the full 6dof native support with a working Flight profile. Yes I am persnickity! Don B
March 12, 201214 yr If I had a TrackIR, I'd be using the workaround, even if it was a total kludge. If I had a TrackIR and wasn't using the workaround, then how badly do I really want to use TrackIR?Hook Larry Hookins Oh!
