Today's aerocache was a little difficult to find

The coffee plantation one. But nonetheless a special one for me as someone who loves coffee.

Hi,I ended up turning on the HUD. By the looks of it and the location I suspect that something more than coffee is being harvested there.Jim F.

Maybe some future "Clandestine Cargo Mission" will take us there again.

Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

From low altitude was hard to see until almost few feet from aerocache.

When you're searching for something like that, you don't want to do it at low altitude.I flew all over that volcano and didn't see anything that looked like a plantation. So I did a formal "start hunt" and eventually found it... even figured where it had to be as soon as the indicator read 2 nm, as I was already familiar with the area. When I found it, it still didn't look like a plantation.If you're trying to find it without aids, look for a small clearing. Oh, and get up fairly high so you can spot them easier. :)Hook

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

I know this from looking at sites trying to get the nerve to buy some 100% Kona Coffee, but the area for this is not too wide and only a few miles long, 3-4 IIRC? Elevation plays a part into the marketing, so looking at 2500' and up is a good start.Some of the farms are of fair size, but people who use land from agri purposes pay a much lower property tax in Hawai'i. So an acre or two with an area of coffee beans or papaya trees or bananas can save some serious moolah!BTW, last I checked getting some 100% Kona Coffee beans would run $30 to $60 per pound. I haven't ordered mine, yet...

I get 40 oz bags of allegedly Kona coffee beans at BJ's for about $18.99...

I started at Runway 35 on Kona and wound up doing a full lap of Hualalai before I got close enough to spot it visually. Very tricky! It was nice to get a reason to fly into Kona though. I found a Duck-delivery job and drew up my second ever IFR flight plan. :dirol:

There's Kona coffee and then there's 100% Kona Coffee. OT link alert! Check this as an example; http://www.konacoffee.com/ One of many sites that will gladly ship you some of their beans grown on "cool slopes of the Hualalai and Mauna Loa Mountains in rich volcanic soil and afternoon cloud cover." They don't seem to mention the VOG! Wonder why that is...

LOL that's exactly why I included the word, "allegedly"... but I like it, and file it under the imitation crab meat exemption... I know it's not crab meat, I know it's pollock, but dammit, I sure do like it!

For the hard to find caches usually what I've done after figuring out the direction it is in by narrowing it down to `within 2nm' I start doing very wide sweeping S turns so I'm still traveling in the same direction but covering more land mass in search of it.. It's worked rather well..

Well, I figured it'd be in the woods somewhere, and it was! Was actually on the phone when I overflew it, so I had to backtrack to find it again. Beautiful landscape around there, too.
