March 21, 201214 yr Is there any way to stop Flight expressing units in Metric? My pilot records show heights in meters and distances in kilometers etc.Quite annoying... Gareth Howell Cheshire (UK)
March 21, 201214 yr Its odd because during the tutorials the instructor tells you to increase or decrease speed to "so many miles per hour" yet most of flight has caught up with the rest of the developed world and uses the metric system.A yard is something I have at the back of my house and is measured in square meters :PHonestly I dont know what the standard is for avionics, metric or imperial but really the powers that be should pick one or the other and run with it.
March 21, 201214 yr Commercial Member Speed in knots, distance in nautical miles and altitude in foot. This is how it goes in most of the world, in Russia and probably some other countries out there its metric system.

It's also gonna give deg F and lbs for weight :-( Gareth Howell Cheshire (UK)
March 21, 201214 yr Moderator Heimi is quite correct. Flight inherits the user's operating system Regional Settings, unlike FSX, FS9, et alia which had their own internal mapping for units.Hemi is quite correct. March 22, 201214 yr The workaround of setting your operating system Language and Locale to US-English does work, however. An Imperial-Metric option is urgently needed. Flight must adhere to real world Flight Standards. It really is annoying to do change language and locale every time you want to switch between Flight and other windows Application. Many of us living outside the US prefer to install all programs including Flight in English, others on their native Language , and set our keyboards and regional setting to use our country’s locale and measurement systems. All flight dynamic displays, radios, wind indicators, altitude, navigation charts, sectionals, ATIS, ASOS etc. use Nautical Miles, as it should be.But having the display to read that the aerocache is 4.7 km away creates confusion For example the high glider and curvature of the earth aerocaches are referenced in Feet, not in meters, then again the indicator displays in metric units. If someone tries to fly by the book and does flight planning before a mission, seeing aircraft details in metric units is not correct or fun either, the same goes for Fuel display, and actual flight. The same goes for aircraft weight, range and fuel quantities, those values, including range are being are displayed in Kg and Km and not in LB and NM as they should be.I even know some guys living in the UK (where they don't use the metric system) and they even have the same problem. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

I tried the work-around from Heimi (thanks for this!) and it does improve things but generates other issues (all other programs now use US units). There are various inconsistencies with units throughout Flight and ought to be a simple fix for MS... fingers crossed. Gareth Howell Cheshire (UK)

March 22, 201214 yr This is a known issue that has been reported to the Flight Team as a bug. The decision was taken to use the users regional setting to establish units as stated above. However this does not work and is not acceptable to most folks who live outside the US. It also fails to take account of general aviation practice. The workaround is as already stated - to change your settings. However I am hopeful that a future update to Flight will allow users to set their own units. This is a known issue that has been reported to the Flight Team as a bug.
