N to skip ...

Featured Replies

Ok so while the skip function can be useful in some long flights, cept where you lose bonus points on jobs, and I am glad we have it - is it just me or does anyone else find it annoying that the message to " Press N to skip" is constantly displayed in the 3d cockpit?I would be ok, if it would display briefly after passing the point where that feature is available - but to have it constantly displayed during the whole flight?Course I guess someone will come along and inform me there is a way to turn that off lol.Kind of takes away a little from the immersion aspect - I just finished flying a job , carrying 3 passengers to a destination on another island - can't remember exactly as I had paused this particular mission for about half the day - was probably around 120 km or so. The whole way there, that message was prominently displayed in my lower right cockpit viewing area.Maybe it is just me, as I was a little irrated at my passengers - not only did they simply not talk to each other, but the dang sniffling noses - this was no medical flight either - seriously, someone needs to blow their noses more!Augh just been a long day I guess, not a lot of sleep last night, whine whine...

Very annoying indeed and one of the first things I posted after playing Flight for the first time. They might as well show EVERY freakin' shortcut onscreen then... The also don't show M for map or F for fuel or whatever. Those messages on screen that STAY on screen have to go!!! I personally hate the 'hints'in the middle of the screen even more. 'Fly to whatever' and you see that all the time until you are there. It kills the immersion for me. I've been doing free flights only lately (practicing my VOR skills) because I got sick of those on screen messages...

Well, as long as you have the HUD up, it'd be nice if some kind of indicator would stay to show that you can skip if you like. Maybe have it go away if you turn off the HUD?

The "N" hint is indeed a rather delicate feature... It took years at the MS FLIGHT Headquarters and two PhDs on neuro-psico-sociology and familiy socio-psicology to end up with that key being shown exactly where it is most appealing...The main aim is... "Go babyseat, or go doing something more useful than looking at this monitor for hours while the rest of the journey runs... because there's nothing really interesting to do in between, and time, my friend, is the GOLD of our lives although we usualy only understand it just too late", or..., rush and go to bed or, back to bed, while your relation can sustain this sort of hobby,... or, "hey dude... you're at WORK!!!! this PC shouldn't really be used to play FLIGHT!!!, or..., "go walking/jogging/cycling, play with your children, drink a beer with your friends, phone your mother,... well, you know....PS1 - the *** ONLY *** serious airliner simulator for the b744 ever produced had that feature too, back in 1995, because Hardy had long understood that time is precious :-). It was very cautiously impolemented because skipping things on such a complex simulation was really complex too... many variables were being updated in the background ....I like the "N" feature... My most effective source of "lift" likes it too :-)I tend to believe that behind those guys in the photo of the MS FLIGHT team is another, bigger, much more important team of wives/girlfriends/bosses/medical doctors/psycologists/socilogists...This was pure filosofy.. I know... Too many days away from FLIGHT can also be harmful :-|

The N feature is also useful for those who only have a few minutes to play at a time. You can still complete a mission if can't stay at the computer for an hour or several.I just did a hamburger run where I used N to skip to the runway at the start, and to the parking area at the end, and still got a no-skip bonus. I don't know if I would have gotten a larger bonus if I'd taxied the plane the whole way manually. Why was I doing hamburger runs? Well, there's this achievement you get for frightening passengers... :D "Tormenter 7/10"... I'll finish that one in the next 24 hours, no hurry. Opening the canopy during flight scared my passenger, and I still had the indicator when we landed, but didn't add to my Tormenter score and I even got a happy passenger bonus. Doing a roll 1.5 miles out from the airport works nicelly though.Hook

Oh I definitely like it and use it where appropriate, but I know it is available , I do not need it constantly displayed inside my 3d cockpit.I myself would still prefer to have it displayed for say 30 seconds or so then dissappear...

Well sure, but why does the reminder that it exists need to be on the screen, covering up clickable controls for three hours if I choose to not press it?Seriously, if they can expect people to remember which direction they plane will go when they move the controls, they can probably expect them to remember what the "skip the entire flight I just decided to fly" button is.

+1. I wonder why they don't show my complete key assignments on the screen all the time, in case I forget that G lowers the gear :-). So get rid of the N. I think most people should be smart enough to memorize that M, uhm N enables the skipping. tradeoff would be that it shortly shows up when available and then disappears after few seconds. OTOH I think at least I am smart enough to realize that skipping is obviously not available if nothing happens after I hit N. Or the other way around, show nothing and rather 'Skip not available at this stage' for a few seconds if and when I click N at the wrong time. but the way it is now it is just annoying.

I'd like a declutter key to get rid of everything. Another key to bring it back. When something first appears, it should show even if the declutter is active. Then you can turn it off by cycling declutter. The "N" isn't always active, and there needs to be some way to tell the user when it is active and when it isn't. Yeah, it's a pain having it there the whole time.Hook

It should have the option to turn it off.....and also confirm before you skip to way point.......the other night I was en-route on a 200nm multiplayer flight/job......and about 3/4 of the way through I went to respond to someone....saying "no"......and the chat box wasn't open so when I typed "no" it started loading....and I thought ##### is going on....then realized it skipped to way-point......quite annoying way to ruin my flight lol! :LMAO:

Fantastic. :LMAO:The “N” key could actually be a demonstration of the graphics engine capabilities. You press “N” and the frame rate jumps to a zillion. You travel 200 nm in less than a second and next thing you know you are 5 miles away from your destination. And I agree. The popup should fade out some 30 seconds after it pops up, or hidden by a declutter.

I was flying a biplane sightseeing mission, when the inevitable happened and I had to find a flat piece of land so my lovely passenger could do her 'bidness'... So anyway, when attempting to turn around to take back off, my wing became entangled on a lone palm tree... and of course I couldn't back up, so I tried throttling up, and turning left and right, to no avail... I just kept circling the stupid palm tree with my wing hooked... about the time I had decided the mission was toast, the light bulb went off... N to the rescue! lol Yes... I'm an idiot... I admit that freely...

I'm an idiot
no comment on that. but I admit that I hit the ESC button today in a mission that was lost since I crashed in some trees and then I exited the mission with no harm :-). so call me whatever you want but looking back now I agree that you are as much an idiot as I am :Silly:
