Prepar3D $49, What We've Been Asking For

Featured Replies

I am wondering why this discussion about who can use it and where can it be used exist. I'm sure that Lockheed Martin does not print a comma without it having been vetted by their legal dept, which I'm also sure must be at least the same size of Microsoft's.This was answered by a LM representative: Anybody can purchase Prepar3D and use it for whatever non-criminal purpose. If MS has a problem with it, I'm certain that LM can defend itself.Changing the subject, I'm glad that LM has shifted its strategy regatding Prepar3D with the new pricing levels. I'm not purchasing the Academic version, because I have the developer's suscription and in my case I am developing simulation solutions for customers, so I need the access to LM's developer network.
Only here, when is the last time you saw a question like that being asked on XP-10, Flight, MFS forum's or other simulator forums about the use of their licenses? Why is there not questions like that summited on other sim's forums about their products?

That is a good question but unfortunately the answer falls in the realm of speculations about the intentions of those who ask that question.

I think anyone commenting on the legitimacy of their download may be walking into a very solid brick wall here, guys. You might take a boo at Tom's locked post above, and the one from David Roch.http://forum.avsim.net/topic/359308-important-please-read-important/ http://forum.avsim.net/topic/350831-legal-aspect-please-read/

I'm not commenting on the legitimacy of PreparD3 at all, I can care less about that, what I'm asking is why is it we dont see that kind of questionning on other sim's forums?

You think so..., why don't we ask the same questions on XP-10 or Aerofly forums as we asked here and see if we will get the same answer from the developers....or do you think they will tell us that we are speculating?
It's on the right hand corner of the menu, hold ALT and make the menu disappear and it's all gone, who flies with a menu anyways :)
Oh, that makes more sense. I feel much better now, thanks!

I don't suppose Lockheed Martin would really care what you do with P3D in the privacy of your own home. I think it would care if someone started distributing "through markets or channels for use as a personal/consumer entertainment product." That's why I don't believe it can become an FSX replacement.

Ah, but here is the point that start all these Prepar3D as a FSX replacement speculations: Lockheed Martin has changed its pricing policy. From $499 to $199, a heft 60% discount! The developer's version has not changed, it still is $9.99 a month. And they have added a new category: "Academic License" at $49.99.The point is that for LM, Prepar3D as a FSX replacement is just the cherry on top. They are developing it as a training tool for developing high end simulation cabins. If some people want to purchase the software to use in their homes, it is a bonus income that they won't throw away. They are not actively marketing Prepar3D as a "personal/consumer enterntainment product". They just made a release indicating that the prices have come down and that there is a new license option with a heavy discount. There are no commercials indicating how Prepar3D is the next evolution in Flight Simulation. And Prepar3D have not been summited to gaming sites for review. It still remains a commercial product and whatever we say, it is just plain speculation since I doubt anybody here is present in the sales strategy meetings at LM.If Prepar3D becomes a replacement for FSX, it will be because WE have voted with our wallets and made it so.

I disagree. It will not become the next FSX until 3rd Party Developers support it at as a personal/consumer entertainment product. But that isn't permitted.

I believe you are mixing apples with oranges. But I won't keep discussing whatever it is permitted or not in P3D, it just devolves into I-I-say-You-say discussion.AFAIK, Orbix is supporting it, and many other 3rd party developers as well. It is no major feat since it is compatible with FSX. I also heard that some 3rd party developers are requiring a separate license for P3D if you have already purchased one for FSX. But that's just a marketing decision.I've worked with a lot of commercial products and believe me, many have 3rd party add-ons that work with them. The only caveat is that the original software poduct owner disavows any support or liability when you use those 3rd party add.ons. Otherwise, as long as neither you nor the 3rd party developer reverse engineer their product, they don't care.

3PD are NOT going to move over to a platform with no user support. There has to be users on-board with the platform before they make the switch. It is OUR job to move to P3D NOT the 3PD's.

That was indeed the point of my reminder to Gerry (aka: mgh)... :(

Absolutely, Bill: I find it very difficult to believe that so many people lack the notion that one should always read between the lines when interpreting a EULA.It is most often that what is not written - is the message that should be taken away.... :(

Ask yourselve why Locheed Martin itself states;http://www.prepar3d....nse-comparison/
As I said, you are comparing apples and oranges. Indeed P3D cannot be used, offered, sold or distributed as a personal/consumer entertainment product. May I ask where have you seen somebody selling P3D as a consumer product? And this prohibition only covers P3D itself, not the 3rd party add-ons.Think of P3d as a very expensive commercial truck. These trucks are not made nor intended for family use, they are working vehicles. They do not offer many amenities found in your basic family car. Also, they are more expensive and have other priorities beyond rider comfort. Also, they are not offered, sold or distributed as a personal/consumer vehicle. Yet, if you have the money, you can purchase one and use it as your family vehicle.Of course, you will have to purchase a lot of 3rd party add-ons to convert a commercial vehicle into something akin a family car. Same with P3D.Now, it seems that you want to keep saying "We cannot use Prepar3D because we are not a school, nor a training facility!" Fine, don't use it. We keep saying that we can since the working phrase is "Student" and if you ask any hardcore flight simmer he/she will say that he/she is training his/her piloting skills. If you think that someday the police will arrive at your door and ask to see you teacher's permit so you can use P3D, be prepared to wait a long time.

Again, my questions are....Why is it that we do not see that kind of questionning from personal consumers on other sim's forums......and the answer is.....?Or, why is it that we see that kink of questionning only here on Prepar3D forum from personal consumers......and the answer is....?
