April 11, 201214 yr Upon the completion of my first two flights, these are the problems I am having a hard time living with... 1) A/P HDG select knob.... Am I missing a clickspot? Do i really have to look down at the A/P pedistel or use the A/P pop-up everytime I need to adjust the heading. There should be a easy click spot in your line of site... I know this is not a Carenado thing but a limitation of the sim... You cant look down and turn the knob on the pedistel b/c you do not know what you are turning it to. 2) looking out the window, the rivets on the engine nacelle are super unrealistic and borderline ugly....I cant look. 3) Carenado manuals... Blow... I have still trying to figure out how to do things.... I do have to say the the Avidyne EX600 is rather nice... Its just a shame its hard to see from the captains seat... I wish I could put that unit in the Jetprop.... All in All... I dont know if I am trading in the Malibu for this bird...
April 11, 201214 yr 1) You can cheat in two ways. First, there's a 2D popup on Shift-3 or 4 which gives you the whole AP panel. Second, the FO's side has a HDG knob which also works for the Captain's side. So instead of looking down, you may also look right and adjust the heading there. But I'd say the AP popup is best. 2) Can't comment. 3) Yeah, the cockpit description is missing. There's another thread on it and I too see it as a sad fact. Avidyne. Well, technically, you could add it to another plane's panel.cfg. Should work on the JetProp with that large GNS530 layout. It opens on Shift-1 as a popup, so you can move or enlarge it to your liking in that view.
April 11, 201214 yr Author I was more along the lines thinking of the Avidyne in the VC Panel of the Jetprop where the WX radar is... That would be ill !!!! Wishful thinking I know... I aman can dream Cant he...
April 11, 201214 yr No wishful thinking at all. I have a CS weather radar there, so you may well be able to put in the Carenado Avidyne from the C90 into that JetProp spot. Just try it with a rough edit of the panel.cfg. You may also be able to place that clickspot gauge there, so that the full gauge pops up when clicked in the VC.
April 11, 201214 yr Done 2 hrs so far, 2 flights as well. Not sure if she will make it out the hanger again - Switch sounds are not realistic - Engine drone (like a Lancaster bomber) during cruise - VC looks kinda artificial, like a kids tonka toy (hard to describe) - Fonts are not easy to read anywhere - Click spots are tiny - Some switches make sounds, but don't move or do anything - Many inoperative switches - NIght lighting is so bright (and colourful) you can't see outside the cockpit (dimmer switch doesn't work) - 500ft call out during approach sounds like a old dog barking (I actually burst out laughing) - Flight dynamics after touchdown are way off, can stop in 50ft with toe brakes, but my rudder seems to have zero effect after landing in a crosswind (maybe the damper on was my error??) - Sound changes between normal and reverse are very unrealistic, there is no blend between them - Nose swing violently left to right during climb and descent for no reason (not wind shifts) - After 30 mins of flight, I had a big grey box about 1km tall sticking out behind the aircraft??? - Not easy to operate the autopilot without keyboard presses and a lot of panning around. Can the course only be set from the right seat? - Set views are locked (right seat etc), some can pan or zoom to a set position, many can't. - Vertical speed on AP can't be changed with mouse wheel. List goes on I'm afraid. Back to the B60 and Duke Turbine (pre.patch, the cockpit bounce on landing is simply a no no). Sorry, don't mean to sabotage your thread, just thought I would I my thoughts instead of starting a new thread. Cheers Iain -Iain Watson-
April 11, 201214 yr Author Yeah I agree buddy.... I think i am going home and dusting off the Jetprop.. Grown very fond of that bird... Cool, do you think it will work (adding the Avidyne to the WX radar spot?) I do not know much about this stuff...
April 11, 201214 yr I can only comment on some items. - Sound changes between normal and reverse are very unrealistic, there is no blend between them I have that one too. Maybe it can be fixed like on those startup sounds because that blend is really missing in my ears. - Not easy to operate the autopilot without keyboard presses and a lot of panning around. Can the course only be set from the right seat? Shift-4 is the AP popup. Should help a lot. It does here. - Vertical speed on AP can't be changed with mouse wheel. Try it on the popup. Works so far. But I haven't tried the VC clickspot yet. Edited. VC works with the l/r clicks only, no mouse wheel. Cool, do you think it will work (adding the Avidyne to the WX radar spot?) JetProp topic. Well, my change on the WR gauges (Carenado to CS) worked, so I think the Avidyne will work too. That Carenado WR gauge must remain active though, you can't simply exclude it. Just make it very small. Like this. gauge00=WX_Gauge_3D_P46T!WXGauge, 9,9,1,1 Then use the space for placing the Avidyne, just as a proof of concept. If that works, adjust the actual size until it really fits and later add the popup gauge (C90KA!ToggleCARG500) if you like to have a popup window too. You can look into the panel.cfg of the C90 for the actual popup window definition.
April 11, 201214 yr Maybe they have a new feature going - a bug for a buck. Whoever finds all 40 first, gets a promise for a patch.
April 11, 201214 yr Yeh, I know the pop up's, but I guess I am used to an MCP, or easy access to AP from line of site, or even the right left click trick in the Duke. I don't like pop up's, that's just me. -Iain Watson-
April 11, 201214 yr Well, the problem is that the real plane has the AP panel 'down under', not as comfortably placed in front of you like on the Duke. So you can use the popup or the TrackIR/EZCA views only. Same as on the DA Cheyenne, which has a nice popup too.
April 11, 201214 yr 2) looking out the window, the rivets on the engine nacelle are super unrealistic and borderline ugly....I cant look. I'm not a super hardcore pilot so some of the other things you guys mention haven't jumped out at me, but the really poor pixelated rivets on the upper wing and engine when looking out the window look terrible and really stand out to me. I initially thought maybe my TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD had defaulted to 1024 and causing that but I checked and it's still at 4096 and it's just a very poor job on those rivets. Very surprising as Carenado is not always best on system bugs, but the graphics is one thing you can usually count on to be great, and especially for a $40 airplane, but not in this case. Hoping they get it fixed otherwise it is really going to bug me as it is an immersion killer, possibly enough to ask for a refund. Update: I reported the problem to Carenado support, hopefully they will reply. Edited April 11, 201214 yr by kludger --John near KPAE
April 12, 201214 yr Can any of the sim avionics ISG1 gauges be Intergrated into the vc instead of the default ones for the ehsi? They may fare better
April 12, 201214 yr I was REALLY looking forward to this aircraft. I woke up this morning with full intention of adding it to my hangar. I read some of the negative comments, like most Carenado releases; went and flew my Turbine Duke and decided to buy the missing ORBX sceneries I needed. I KNOW they will be awesome! But the King Air really looks fun!!
April 12, 201214 yr I just finished a flight, CYPK-CYKA-CYLW-CYVR-KBVS. I am pretty good with the Garmin glass, but the Avidyne/Collins EFIS has sent me back to the books. The flight dynamics are great, the model is awesome, the sounds are good (engine 2 start sound is missing) and the switch sounds are good but the static sound during switch motion is a little ....meh. All in all, another well spent 40$. A few little updates and some great user mods will make this a must have for the hangar.
