PMDG Weather radar

Featured Replies

I'm sure we all know the standard arguments and the ripostes which get wheeled out on threads relating to weathr radars in FS, and we are all pretty much aware of the limitations.

Personally, I quite like the pseudo weather radars which have been implemented by various developers in FS, they have some use, in that they do show where heavy weather is likely, if not exactly where it will be drawn in FS when your aeroplane makes it there. This isn't really a simulation of an actual working weather radar bouncing returns off water droplets as we know, but it is enough of an illusion for me, and it is an illusion which can at least be made use of to some degree.

And after all, what is a simulated aeroplane, if it is not an illusion? Our simulated airliners never move a millimetre from their location on our hard drives, but we are perfectly happy to pretend that they make trans-oceanic crossings.

Will the wood pigeon be the first PMDG product with weather radar?

No, but it will be the only one that is completely authentically simulated in that regard, by not actually having a radar.

Definitely agree with you. Back when I used to fly the PSS 777 it helped a lot with flights over the Atlantic at night. Although the radar never picked up water droplets it enabled me to see thunderstorms well in advance and vector well clear.

Thunderstorms in FS are not dangerous, however you still have that annoying bug where you pitot freezes and FS starts increasing the aircrafts gross weight to simulate ice build up even if you have NAI, WAI and pitot heat on.

Anyway, I think it's more of an annoyance when people ask since PMDG have been clear on the matter.

I agree 100% on that! An half baked wx radar is better that no wx radar at all. It's not like we're all gonna crash & die just because the FSX radar doesn't show the "right weather". I'm missing the unrealistic wx radar on the NGX

Why do people keep asking?

Some people think before they write... The OP wrote:

so could PMDG planes be FSUICP weather radar compatible?

In other words could PMDG allow third party weather radar software writers to insert their product on their (PMDG planes) ND, the same way that FS2Crew writes its add-ons for specific products presumably after negotiating an agreement with PMDG.

Well said Chock, I reflect your sentiments exactly. Tabing your keyboard and inputting your values and waypoints in the green entry bar in the NGX is also not a real option. In the end it is an option for users who want to remain faithful to their version of realistic or utilize the convience. Keying in your waypoints on a keyboard is much less realistic than using a mouse. I would like to see weather radar even if it is only a simulation. It can't hurt to make your voice known.
