April 18, 201214 yr OK, at the risk of getting myself shot down in flames, I am daring to ask a few questions to those of you who fly the RV-7 for longer than myself, which accounts for about ten minutes. In that short time I have had three very important conclusions..... 1) I am extremely disappointed with the quality of the external texture resolution. Am I missing something? Are there some textures I need to load from somewhere to correct this? 2) I DO NOT want to keep seeing a young girl with a stupid grin on her face flying the aircraft... surely there is a way I can change this? 3) For some very strange reason, for the first time with my present rig, I have experienced graphical spikes and flashes, the kind normally asscoated with a bufferpools tweak. I have to add that this has never shown itself in any way shape or form previously, with any other aircraft, only this one????? Could it be the way it has been designed?? Dunno, but some friendly opinions, without yelling at me, will be gratefully received. As I said, I have only just taken this plane for a short flight. So don't be too harsh with me Ron! Not aware of other textures, but I do not step out of the plane that often. I will almost bet that such a popular plane will have other textures done by others. If not now soon. 2. Again, I don't see her because I stay inside the plane except for an occasional external camera on the belly of the plane. It would be nice to have a config tool for that though. 3. I find the RV very friendly on frames. I use the UsePools=0, HigmemFix and AffinityMask=14. I also am running a high end processor Oc'd to 4.8. Who is Ron? Regards Bob Officially retired

Then somethings wrong...............your graphics card/settings must be ???? The external textures are some of the best I've seen. The rivet lines, rivets themselves, and detail of the exterior aluminum panels look very real. There is also a reflective shine that looks very convincing. As an RV owner/builder............I really like this model. Perhaps I can get some pics posted later. L.Adamson
April 18, 201214 yr Author Hi Bob, I guess I will just persevere a little more, although you have the same Bufferpools setting as myself. Ron? Ron Attwood, he's a great fan of this aircraft... April 18, 201214 yr I love the RV to bits, but I actually agree about the female pilot. Silly as it may sound, I find it a bit harder to imagine I'm her rather than a male pilot, and - lets face it - imagining we're there is a big part of simming. Still, it speaks volumes I think, the RV's worst "fault" being their choice of gender for the pilot model. I can't fault it apart from that, except like with every other quality addon I'd love A2A to accusim it in depth with some engine management and damage modelling etc.
April 18, 201214 yr Hi Bob, I guess I will just persevere a little more, although you have the same Bufferpools setting as myself. Ron? Ron Attwood, he's a great fan of this aircraft... Ok, thanks. I have never been concerned about the outside textures (unless I was getting ready to sell her LOL), so to each his own of course. After LAdamson's post I guess I will have to step outside and take a look! Bob choice of gender for the pilot model Uh Oh... hold on! :girl_devil: Officially retired
April 18, 201214 yr 1. I agree the external textures could benefit from a little higher resolution. Tried both DX9 and 10 but same result. VC textures looks really sharp though so I don't believe it's a problem with my setup. 2. Yep, that grin puts her awfully close to the edge of the uncanny valley. Other that that I have no problems with it being a female pilot. 3. Haven't noticed anything special with the RV myself in this respect but I'll do some more testing when I get home. Rolf Lindbom
April 18, 201214 yr Hi, Sorry, not shooting you down, just disagreeing! Loads of exceptional paints are available (from the usual download sites), and many of these are exquisitely detailed. The shine and bumps on the RV7 are very good, IMHO. I agree about the pilot figure; I have no real issues with the lady, though personally I'd prefer being given a choice. The frames are very good on my setup using the RV7, and I have no graphical anomalies with mine (though my USEPOOLS POOLSIZE is different). I have found this aircraft to be very immersive; it handles wonderfully, and has a great speed range which is perfect for touring and getting in/out of short strips. This is my favourite GA at this moment, but there are things I'd like updated too (i.e. clock, suction, GPS functions). That notwithstanding, what there is is well conceived, finely detailed, and perfectly executed. The soundset is incredible, and the configurator is very capable. IMHO, it's a classic payware FSX aircraft that is worth every penny. It sort of brings the virtual hooligan pilot out in me; the only other a/c to have done this is the RealAir SF260 - it's sort of hard in these a/c to not go inverted at least once during a flight! In fact, the VC detailing is right up there with the best, and it is far better than the now ageing but still perfectly formed SF260. April 18, 201214 yr Author A lot of replies fellas and thanks for behaving yourselves Jean paul, I have the CP set for DX9, it has made no difference. I have found some repaints on the site, so will try them. As for the default aircraft here is a shot, which is a little rediculous bearing in mind the website blurb says "Meticulously depicted detail including accurate rivets, fasteners, brackets, etc" maybe they were being a little economical with things and talking about the VC, either way i am disappointed with the external textures . I guess i just need some confirmation that what I am seeing is correct.... BTW anyone know how I can increase the reflection on the inside of the tilting cockpit, 'cos at the moment it looks like there is no glass at all! April 18, 201214 yr Rockliffe............your exterior texture pic, does look terrible! Mine looks nothing like that...
April 18, 201214 yr Same here, my textures are great. Maybe a driver/setting issue. Bob Officially retired
April 18, 201214 yr Here is a highly compressed pic. We'll see if it shows the rivet detail pattern & reflections off the aluminum skin. edit........ reduced size of pic.
April 18, 201214 yr Author Well It's not a driver issue or anything, simply 'cos that would affect everything and also other aircraft. I've just checked out the Carendao HD Caravan and it is as sharp as a button! maybe I've just zoomed in a little too much into the pic...? Hi there, Not wishing to offend you in any way, but this thread contains comments similar to those that you made in reference to the appearance of the textures in Fly Tampa's St. Maarten package (http://forum.avsim.net/topic/369801-whats-the-best-overall-add-on-scenery-for-the-caribbean/). In that thread too, graphic/texture anomalies that you observed were not observed by others. Is it possible, then, that your graphics card may starting to fail? There is no question in my mind that you see what you see; however, because these observations are not also shared by many others, it would also appear on the face of it that these graphics issues must have a cause residing more locally, potentially.
