The further right it gets, the "longer" the buttons become. Not something I would prefer, but it's up to everyone to judge. I had three screens and I have to say that it was really strange having my viewpoint stretched so far. Word Not Allowed[/color]' timestamp='1335305088' post='2349915']For 3 screens, if it must be, 2x GTX580 would be my choice. Personally, I think that the Tomol is better off waiting for the GTX685. When running extreme resolutions as such, I think that the 685 will have quite and edge on performance over a 680 or 580. The GTX685 is basically a GTX680 with 512bit mem interface and many more cuda cores.

When 685 comes out, wait for the next ATI... then next Nvidia etc... You are aware that probably nothing until September or so? My bet is problems are gonna arise and we're looking Christmastime :) I might be wrong of course... How much better is it going to get? We only see specs. We knew 680 was powerful, yet it disappoints vs 580 on the comparable system.
April 25, 201214 yr Well, the 685 is what the 680 was intended to be so I expect it to be a true beast.

Meh, this talks of a beast... heard it before too many times. I think we all always put too much hope into future hardware, only to come to the point where it comes out and be disappointed. Me, I prefer to lay low, listen and observe.

I think we all always put too much hope into future hardware, only to come to the point where it comes out and be disappointed. Me, I prefer to lay low, listen and observe. I put hope into future hardware for the sake of this pathetic piece of software that we use as our main platform. After upgrading to IB, I have come to a grave realization that it wont really ever get any better than this. Honestly, I am seriously starting to agree with Arjen on this one. We have merely hit the wall for FSX in terms of hardware. If Intel can't manage to 'fix' Haswell to pass 5GHZ, then we are stuck where we are with SB in the 4.5-4.8GHZ zone.
April 25, 201214 yr Yes, been saying it for quite a while too. I don't think it's a wall per se, but rather just "wall for now". Stay with SB and lay low :) Everything is blown so much out of the proportion, that it's unbelievable. Same happening now with PCIEx3. Hoping hoping hoping... bam... and nothing. Just wait and see :) Reminds me of the Flight Forum speculations couple of months ago!

Hardware for FSX seems to have plateaued and Flight hasn't been what we expected yadda yadda yadda.... I guess I should enjoy what I have now, and then wait for the new stuff.

April 26, 201214 yr noctua DH14 (huge) Corsair H80/h100 In addition Ryan's excellent recommendations you might also want to take a look at Antec's 620 or 920. The 620 has been on sale lately ($51 @ Newegg w/ $10 off) and offer a good performance with low db. I got rid of an H50 for the 620 and prefer the Antec at this point.
April 27, 201214 yr Yes I have just read it and it doesn't answer any of my questions sorry, first of all I want to run either surround or eyefinity and I can't run surround without sli with an NVIDIA card, but fax doesn't like sli so I thought one radeon HD6970 card would be excellent for the job as it allows eyefinity on one card. What is wrong with the rest of the setup? Thanks, Tom Hi Tom, I have just gave up on three screens surround with two GTX 570, and I now have a single Dell 30" ultra sharp. I have gone from ATI Eyefinity to NVidia Surround and even that I gave up much of Autogen and set Traffic to Medium, the FPS never go up above 20 in complex sceneries like ORBX. The flying experience is also not smooth. So I thought I share with you my experience to save you some money and times. In addition, FSX in large resolution like 5760x1200 (my triple 24" monitors) distort the view field so much it's not realistic looking at all. Hope this helps. By the way, going to SB or throwing more CPU will only increase the FPS to 25 (a 30%) while still at low graphics settings. You need 30 FPS to have a smooth flying experience and if you are lucky by 2014, you will have a powerful enough CPU to drive the framerate up. Just look at the forum for folks using SB-E 3760K or something similar. Vu Pham i7-13700K 5.2 GHz OC, 64 GB RAM, RTX5090, SSD for Sim, SSD for system. MSFS2020, XP-12, DCS
April 27, 201214 yr So,,is it SB-E 3760K or 2700K ? Forget the 300$ diff.... if you could get one...which one would you pick for FSX? Which is it for FSX? I am thinking 2700K after OCing it. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
