Which non-VC Warbird should I try?

Featured Replies

Having resisted the P-51, Zero and P-40 thus far (due to the obvious lack of VC) I'm tempted to give one of them a try out of curiosity...maybe for aerobatics and the like.

Is there anything that makes one of the three stand out? Any suggestions of which one to go for?

I was going to ask the same thing, I want to own at least one of them, but not sure which.

Maybe I will just hope for a "Warbird Bundle" on Steam haha

Gareth and Adam, I'll confess to having all three. I understand all the dissatisfaction over cockpit-less planes, but I see the glass half full in this case. Get any of them, use Ctl-Q to inch the view position back into the plane at the correct point, you will see a dummy panel and if you view around you, you will see the wings and feel you are in the cockpit, which you will be. Keep the heads-up display active and you will enjoy flying these planes, as you will easily monitor airspeed, throttle setting, altitude, heading and fuel content. If you try these tips, you can really enjoy flying any of the three. Their exteriors are beautifully rendered with good detail. I thought I would prefer the Mustang, but the Zero handles well. The P-40 seems to be more lively, esp with respect to roll stability, and I've gotten into more trouble with the P-40 than the others--maybe that means it's more challenging, I'm not sure. Of course, a true VC would have been much preferable, but I still think these three are well done and worthwhile.

Thanks for the info. I am considering the Zero, can it do the 32,000 foot and Mach 1 achievements?

I'd actually try all of them if you like Flight. If you like Flight, and you want to support it, you should buy either all or most of the DLC. It's not that you're wasting your money. It's that MS will see that you are a proud supporter of Flight and they may increase the size of their team.

Have to totally disagree with that line of thinking. I love Flight and want to support it, but not with unfinished aircraft, sorry. If you are happy with these type of aircraft, then by all means, spend away. Since I can't be face to face with the dev team and tell them what i think, the only option i have to give me any small peice of mind is to vote with my wallet.

In answer to the OP's question - None of the above!

I agree, None of the above.

Some guys here have bought all 3 of them, because they like them and don’t mind playing with that type of aircraft.

It's not the same to support someone than to be someone’s stooge.(This is not directed at you Alex; I praise your enthusiasm)

That said, I support Flight, but not by buying sub-products I don't want or need; not from Microsoft or for that matter not from anybody else.

American Heritage Dictionary: stooge

  2. One who allows oneself to be used for another's profit or advantage; a puppet.

Well... Yeh. If you support Flight, but don't want to buy things that don't interest you, there's no problem in that. I buy all DLC for one reason. I do not want to let them down. If they have no money, they cannot produce thus therefore cannot continue their line of DLC.

I see what you are saying, but they are letting me down. I have been a loyal MSFS supporter for years, but I can't blindly support them with what I am seeing at the moment, that is not an option. Give me/us a carrot to follow or something more substantial than 3 warbirds with no cockpit, that is all I am asking.

The entire point of this model for the game is that players can buy what they want. Nobody should feel obligated to purchase something just because.

I have the p-51 and the am6, but I prefer the "Zero" :-) I love performing a few aerobatics with it, the great torque rolls at the top of a steep climb, the excellent effects such as the assimetry of gear retraction causing a noticeable yaw moment (like it should), etc...

I do not have the p-40 yet.

I bought the P51, to help get Flight rolling and to see what it was like. That said, I have not bought any others. Just not my cup of tea.

This is such a bad approach (and waste of money).. I just left an entire community because it was filled with this type of thinking. "Buy the DLC to help support the core product!!" 3 years and 2 major (free) revisions later the game is still riddled with problems, awful support, completely inaccurate physics and the main delveloper / distributor pumping out DLC like a sweatshot where quantity is focus and their definition of quality = Make it look pretty and make the Steam release window. But that's what was fed to us "All DLC helps development of the core" and all they did was add eye candy more and less over three years.
