The new way to Train the Speech Recognizer for "Specific Words" like Auto

Recommended Posts

We're finding that some users, particularly users with British sounding accents, are sometimes have trouble getting "Auto" to be recognized due to their accents.

Here's the new and improved method for training the speech recognition system to accurately detect specific words that you're having trouble with:

1. Open the Microsoft Windows Speech Recognizer and RIGHT CLICK the microphone icon. You can open the Windows Speech Recognizer by typing "Speech Recognition" in the search for programs box in the Windows Start Menu.

2. Select "OPEN THE SPEECH DICTIONARY" and select "ADD A NEW WORD".

3. When done, close or turn off the Windows Speech Recognizer. It CANNOT be running while using FS2Crew or your voice commands will start controlling Windows functions a well, such as opening and closing windows.

Unless you were joking or I'm taking it incorrectly, I think you are misunderstanding it there Paul, the idea is to teach the system how you say "Auto", not for you to imitate the American default!

I assume it associates your pronunciation with the "text" word.

No not joking, I had an issue when going through the pre-flight check list FO "Pressurization Mode Selector" Capt "Auto" I had to say next or checked to be able to move on or try the american accent. Having "ADDED THE WORD" it works fine now everytime, or is that just lucky? There are a couple of other words in the flows I can't get to work correctly (how to respond to fuel during the before start checklist)

Never had a problem with "auto" but I can't get it to recognise "kilograms" of fuel no matter what I do. It's OK with "tons" though so although it may not be strictly correct, I say "9.3 tonnes" rather than "9 3 0 0 kilograms".

Try using the method described above to train the system for "kilograms".

If 'auto' is now being recognized properly with your Brit accent, then, yes, I think so.

This is very curious, if I pronounce 'auto' properly (standard English accent) sometimes my F/O doesn't recognize it, but if I pronounce it with a strong Spanish accent, no problem at all, sure my F/O is well trained...

I have Spanish accent. The only problem is with "RTO". My FO recognize only the word sometimes. I need pronounce "R T O" slow and spell.

My personal issue is instead "flaps .... green lights"... first part ok, but instead of "green lights" I always get hilarious guesses on the green bar! Sometimes they really distact me laughingh at how the hell (or how bad is my italo-english prononciation) the computer could inderstood something like that! Just%20Kidding.gif

BTW, I also had lot of issues with "auto" and they got fixed with the training proceudre above but still no luck with "green lights"..

Train greens lights like this.. use a whole sentence... this is copied directly from the FS2Crew NGX speech recognition speech grammar file...

flaps one green light

flaps five green light

flaps ten green light

flaps fifteen green light

flaps twenty five green light

flaps thirty green light

flaps forty green light

The only word I am ever having problems with is "Armed", hopefully this might be the solution.

I'm not sure why right clicking isn't bringing up the menu for you.

Is there any other way you can access that menu?

In the meantime, trying saying 'on' and 'auto' with a more American accent.

I have a UK accent and had exactly the same problems, could not get FS2Crew to recognise my On or Auto. I got the On working by saying it in an American accent something like the actor John Wayne and blow me it worked.

I have since managed to re-train the Speech Recognition by using Bryan's method above, using the Speech Dictionary.

Making my first steps with Emergency NGX, I found out that all the phrases that start with "APU" cause problems for me. Everytime I say "APU" speech recognition understands something like "eight v2....". I found that I have to pronounce it more like "A P You".

The green bar shows "APU" as "A P U", so how would be the proper way to train the word. Should I spell it like one word (APU) or as three single letters (A P U)?

Another question that came to my mind. I was trying the pronunciation of problematic phrases by just looking at what the green bar gives me. But does FS2Crew listen for all possible phrases all the time? Or does it rather look for the distinct phrases that apply for the current situation? What I mean is: Let's say I want to train "Cabin Crew doors may be opened" (Another problematic sentence for me). Do I need to cycle to the shutdown mode or can I speak that sentence in any mode and see what the green bar gives me?

And one last question: Is it possible to reset FS2Crew? Let's say after a failure has happened or after I progressed to some point during the flight, can I set FS2Crew to the state that it had directly after loading it for the first time?

I trained my speech recognition (not for FS2Crew NGX) by dictating misunderstood words/phrases in to Microsoft Word, then using the Speech Recognition "correction" function". The system was getting confused between ARMED and ON, it still does occasionally despite training, must be my English accent.

Does this dictionary function allow for phrases as well as words?

1) it is spelt out as individual letters: Ay Pee You (Ay as in dAy)

2) FS2Crew listens for all phrases all the time and displays what it think was said in the green bar, but it then ignores the ones that don't make sense or are in the wrong phase of flight.

Try dictating and correcting like I discussed above. Keep dictating and correcting until it understands the phrase with reasonable accuracy.

I know that technique and used it as well. I think you can dictate phrases. Thanks for your answer.

Hello!

I'm trying to training the auto speech but I can't. I have Windows 8 Pro Spanish Language and when I try to open the Speech Recognition Tool it comes with an error, can't open it because the Win language is Spanish and the Speech Recognition language is English.

Well I'm glad I've got the bundle pack so I can use the button version. My computer can't understand a single word of my Norwegian accent, lol.

You need to switch your Windows language to English US first, then do the speech training, then you can switch back to Spanish Windows again (leaving the speech recognition language set to English US).

All described in the FS2Crew manual, by the way

It's easy to change the language of Windows 8?
