SMOOTH FS2004 PERFORMANCE FINALLY

Featured Replies

I agree. I just did FS-GS System Unification. Spent 6 hours doing it yesterday with Mr. Greenblatt. Worth every nickel and then some. (Posted about it above but Mr. Allensworth locked the post down for reasons I guess I do understand.)JS

Hi Jonathan, (long time!!)Do you or anyone have the problem that during a flight the performance goes back step by step... until I change focus to another program, and change back all is fluid for a while..????Johan[A HREF=http://www.phoenix-simulation.co.uk]Phoenix Simulation Software[/A]-----http://www.people.zeelandnet.nl/johdUnofficial PSS Website

Johan:Hi, mate, long time indeed....!Well, no not really. FS9 has always rocked for me but now it really rocks. I am still testing post FS-GS and so far, doing KSFO and EGLL in succession with massive UT traffic, no signs of performance "fatigue" so far. That said, I need to do a 13 hour flight from KIAD to OMDB or some such thing to test memory leakage, etc.The thing is I defrag fairly often with Diskeeper (works superbly), and I clean out my temp files and folders a lot too. So I empty out and dump the rubbish so to speak often. With this latest process I went through I'll be emptying the trash even more frequently. This all helps a great deal. Will we see you in Denver for the 2004 AVSIM convention? I booked to fly the 747 or 777 if they are available.Cheers!JS

GUYS, it is SMOOTH FS2004 PERFORMANCE FINALLY. We did it last night with Michael from FSGS!And I confirm it is useful, deep, and really makes difference in FS9. Now I can fly FS9 almost everything maxed out on my 3.0 HT, 533Mhz FSB, 1GB RAMBUS, FX5900Ultra machine. I thought I knew a lot about tweaking and settings...They go really deep in OS tweaking, I can't wait to try it on my main machine P4 3.2 800Mhz FSB, 2GbPC3200, FX5950Ultra for LOCKON and F4. I'll report it here if interesting. So, if you really apprecite clean and clear sight, smooth performance and maxed out settings in MSFS, call them now.Besides that for me it is a great education/tutorial on how to fine tune my system for gaming. I've been doing tweaking for sims since Win95, (EF2000 and Longbow2), and now I've got a feeling (still need to check in the other titles) that this is my ultimate experience.Seriously, it is very interesting for the experienced simmers, and 100% a must for the beginners who want really to get there fast and start enjoy FLYING in the beatiful clear world of FS9 instead of messing up with endless tweaks and settings and wasting 100s of hours on it.One thing I don't really understand though how does it work business wise. We spent 7 hours (there was a language problem using Cyrillic OS) with the guy from FSGS and it cost me only 60 Euro! I had Michael from FSGS online tied up with me for 7 hours!? Economics do not click here, so don't wait too long if you want to try it, because either they will have to increase the charge or stop this service. I maybe wrong here ofcourse, but calculate yourselves 5-7 hours for Eur70 only (and it goes throught Simmarket where it is split, so they get less than that). So, good luck, guys, and thanks to FSGS. I appologize if I go too far in hailing this commercial product, but as I said it is not so commercial when you see how much time they spend on you.

I thought this thread got locked? Hmm...Cool to hear it worked for you too Dirk. I'm also puzzled as to why it seems that any thread about this service is now taken as a commercial advertisment here. How is posting about our experiences with Michael's service and recommending it any different than someone who posts about how much they like the product they bought from PMDG, DF, PSS, RealAir, or any other payware vendor?

Perhaps it's WHO objects, and why they do. There will always be favoritism in this venue, and those who are crucified, rightly or wrongly.

Here is why I will use FSGS: System specs:Dell 8300 P 4 2.6 HT 800 fsb; 512 MB 3200DDR; ati 9800np o/c to Pro; SB Live! SeriesAll software updated, Omega Driver v 2.5.44FS9 separate partition. Open fs9 in XP Home in its own account. All eye XP eye candy off. Set up FS9 hardware profile with almost every service disabled. Fs9 tweaks includeAutogen.bak, Avsim terrain.cfg re-work. Video card AA 4x AF 16x. 100% traffic, 40 mile cloud draw, 100% cloud detail, all sliders maxed except auotgen on

John,Just so you know - FS-GS does not dwell on or attempt to tweak framerates. Tell Michael what you want the sim to do and he'll attempt to get it running smoothly the way you want it. The smoothness and the visual quality is what's important, not the FPS...

OMG! 7 hours? I think you could trial and error every one of Bill Gates personal secret tweaks in less time than that!Obviously there is something to this service. I get smooth performance already so the only thing I can imagine is that there are many folks who do not get smooth service from their Hi Perf machines. I have just followed the tweaks noted in various forums, and done a few other things, and I am running everything maxed except for cloud density i have to medium. Otherwise, I am running 38m mesh, ActiveSky 2004, FDC, PMDG aircraft, water reflections, ActiveCamera, etc. I use the default clouds too. Occasionally I notice when taxiing around complex terminals there can be some lack of smoothness when turning, but this is only in the very complex aircraft, so I would be curious if this is COMPLETELY eliminated with the System Unification process. Otherwise, I am completely smooth, with excellent visibility. I need to keep AA at 2x though, but that is at 1600x1200x32 with 8xAF.I would be curious to know if what is done with this service can be written down as a tweak guide. If it is a case of making sure things are set a certain way, or installed in a certain order, or whatever, this should be teachable as a tweak guide. If it is a case of making changes then checking the effect (as in trial and error) then this might be harder to communicate in a tweak guide. Which is it, tweak n test, or set up according to strict rules?Noel

Well, I have been reading this post along with hundreds of others. Seems like there are two groups: Those who have had it done and are amazed, and those who haven't and think it is snake oil, overpriced or they can/should-be-able to do the same thing themselves.Until today, I was in the latter group. But I figured, what the heck, I wouldn't pay the guy if it didn't meet my expectations. I found out that ALL of the work is done first, including a final test flight in the aircraft of your choice at the airport of your choice, THEN you go pay.I paid the instant that Michael and I disconnected. I am absolutely amazed at the increase in performance. I now have every slider cranked to full right, running AS2004, FSGenesis, RealityXP radar and JetPack2, MyTraffic high density version at full, AND restored default autogen at full -- the whole ball of wax. And not a single hesitation and verryy smooth.Framerates? Don't know and don't care -- I haven't even bothered to look. I just fly now with no problems and much increased realism. Michael has convinced me that chasing framerates is a waste of time. Man, and after all these years of chasing! It took four solid hours of changing parameters in both XP and FS9. There was NO trial and error; no try this, try that. However, a LOT of time was spent undoing all of the fixes that I have read about in this forum. Divide the hours into the fee. I sure wouldn't work that cheaply, LOL. Not if I had Michael's level of expertise. To make the session even better, Michael explained why so many of the "fixes" posted here are baloney. The fee was worth the education, even if I had not seen such a dramatic outcome. Part of our time was spent by Michael answering my un-ending "Why?" questions.Tom A., I agree that you guys would provide a great benefit to have someone with good writing/communication skills go through this process. My quest for the holy grail of smoothness led to upgraded video cards, cpu's and motherboards, and ultimately a complete new system. Graphic Solutions' fee was, by far, the least expensive of my attempts, and WAY by far, the most effective.Damn, now I am starting to sound like another one of the zealots :-lolTrust me, guys, this is the real thing.Wilson

Wilson, how come we keep hearing you need to turn your frame counter off? This is a recurrent theme here and I wonder since I can easily discern smooth vs fps. Are you running ActiveSky 2004? This is the real perf killer, or other real weather programs that pack in more clouds. Are you using the default clouds or something less? I know I have flawless performance at the highest resolutions provided I fly in fixed weather.Noel

Certainly sounds interesting.Thanks,RobertPIV 3.2 ghz, 1024 DDR ram, 128 mg Radeon 9700 Pro graphic card, Intel D865GBF 800 FSB mobo,two 80 gig Western 7200 hard drives,Win XP Home Edition, 19" ViewSonic E 90f + SB monitor

Hi, Noel:Sorry if I implied that there was something wrong with running the frame counter. What I meant was, I don't need to run it anymore. When I used to get the stutters and jerkiness, I would turn it on, see how bad it was, come to this forum, and then find the next tweak, fix, patch, etc. Now, I have no need to run the frame counter. That's all I meant. And yes, as I said in my post, I am running AS2004 (5 layers) with ALL sliders maxed in the weather section of the display options. Because I like to run RealityXP Weather Radar, one of my requirements to Michael was that I wanted to max out the weather settings. After the initial interview, Michael stated what HIS objectives were if I decided to proceed. Bottom line was that he expected me to be able to max everything and have a smooth running system, but perhaps have to turn off ground shadows (remember, maxed out autogen). That is exactly what happened.Don't get me wrong. If you are satisfied with the smoothness and lack of pauses in your system, don't waste your money. These two things are what this is all about. It is definitely not about maxing out the framerate. There is a very involved part of the session that deals with framerates, but its purpose is not to "tweak" the system to get the highest framerate. It is to maximize the overall smoothness of the system.I know. This all sounds like you need to belong to "the club" to understand. Suffice it to say (again), "It ain't about the framerate, stupid!" (Not meant as a personal attack, Noel ;) ) I think part of the problem, at least for me, was that I equated framerate to smoothness. Michael showed, no, proved to me that was not the case.Wilson

Hi guys,Ok, I am throughly intrigued by this service. I am of course, skeptical, however, the reviews seem honest and worthy. Am am willing to give it a shot. I only have a few questions though.First... I am planning on upgrading my hardware rather significantly over the next month to two months. IE - Jumping from an AMD 2200+ to a 3200+, upping my RAM from 512 Megs of PC2700 to a Gig of PC3200, and buying a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 Meg card (and *ahem,* flashing its BIOS to 9800XT specs).Should I wait to grab all my hardware and get it installed and whatnot prior to beginning the consultation process?Second... my Win XP installation is aging some (getting toward a year old now), and I know that my internet surfing habits have picked up some nasties. Not viruses, but other, unwanted components. The upshot being, I'm also relatively close to reformatting my beastShould I try and prep/reformat my system prior to the consultation? Especially, should I try partitioning my HDD to create an FS-only drive?Lastly, and more a corollary to the previous two inquiries, would the payment for the process allow for at least some minimal consultation to occur should any upgrades or system changes occur in the future?I understand that there's a possibility that some of these questions couldn't be answered completely due to the propritary nature of the information FS-GS supplies, but I would still be interested in knowing to what extent I would need/want to prepare myself and my system before investing and committing to the process.I appreciate the insight and answers you might be able to provide. Thanks for your help.~Nate

Thanks Wilson, I appreciate the response. For my system, I am usually very happy at 1600x1200x32 with 2xAA, 8xAF. I use AS2004, ActiveCamera, 38m and better mesh, Flight Deck Companion, and have all sliders on high except clouds at low - medium density. Sometimes autogen down one notch. In all default aircraft it is silky until a few layers of certain clouds--and I can't tell which ones sometimes--then there is an actual drop in frames and becomes rhythmically choppy. And this i'm guessing is just a case of can't process it. In the PMDG737NG there is choppiness when making turns on the ground. In dense terminals in this aircraft, and with some weather, i can get quite choppy. But other than that, it is silky smooth. These situations which impact performance, one might say uniformly, seem predictable and I am doubting much improvement can be had. What do you think from this discription Wilson, will this service likely make significant improvements in my performance, or will I still be plagued by inadequacies that are manifest in just plain too taxing situations, if indeed that is what the issue is?Noel
