How to Taxi in FSX?

Didn't we have this conversation, Word Not Allowed? Please quit putting people down because they don't do things the way you like to do them. Be helpful or be quiet.

I know Word Not Allowed means well, but I think some of the things he says to other members would be better said if he did it via PM, rather than scoldng them in public. Thru the years I dont really recall Geoffa or David Roch treating members the same way, unless of course the member was way out of line.

If I was Word Not Allowed I probably would have just PM'ed Autopilot and had that conversation in private, but thats just me, everyone obviously has their own style.

That said, I think Word Not Allowed is a good forum member, but not as good at being a moderator, probably because he is new at it and tends to err on the side of over control than appear to have no control.

What's your definition of an "educated question"? If you have already learnt the information from another source...why ask here?

I knew this was gonna backfire at me...

An educated question is someone asking something about he doesn't understand or know, but did try obviously to understand it himself. Complete lack of knowledge requires in my opinionsome research. Otherwise you are bound to get yourself lost even if people start helping you, due to not understanding what is it about.

...and you think that this is good?

Yes, I think that is very correct and good. Same as PMDG produces NGX, writes a huge tutorial, introduction and a manual, spends countless hours at that, and people don't even bother reading it flooding the forums with simplest of questions. And also some replies get that tone.

how do you see that working out?

Quite simple: if a user doesn't respect us wanting to help him (I guess you weren't here when it all started, and it didn't get better now), there is no reason we (me) are going to respect him.

I do actually admire Al for his helpful posts, and that is fully correct on how he replies. I learned some things from him, that is a fact. But I still remain my opinion.

would be better said if he did it via PM

Here's a good idea, but I did try it on couple of occasions and mostly members didn't even reply. I could encourage myself to do it more again. Thanks for the suggestion. It would probably also put less fire onto me over forums, as it does every time I attempt on doing anything similar.

EDIT: something I wanted to add: Through years, I noticed how most admins do "bad" things over PM, and don't discuss it over forums. Apparently, the reason that some people see me as a big old mean dragon is apparently just for that reason - that I do it openly so everyone can see it. I think that probably every admin/mod does it more over PM, what I might just start doing. I just thought doing it in open space is kind of not hiding anything, because why would I? Everyone has the right to know... but I guess crowd control is better, and everyone would like it better that way. Let it be.

Again, then what is AVSIM for? If i can find the information i need from Google, why bother posting at AVSIM. AVSIM is full of questions that Google could answer, i think you pretty much have a full time job if you indeed to castigate every person asking them. When i first started i was clueless, i wouldn't really have known how to ask the question on Google, fortunately i only got offered helpful and friendly advice from people on here, which is why i stayed.

...and yet people are still asking why the autopilot doesn't engage (due to hardware throttle spikes normally). Ryan generally answers them professionally as i would expect from a commercial provider. I have never had to ask Pete a question but i would expect the same professional attitude.

Hmm not sure what to make of this, you are right i wasn't here when it started, hell i might have felt exactly as you do; but then i wouldn't have replied at all.

It's not if the posts are helpful as such, it's more the tone; you have one of the most helpful posts on here, the guide that was recently added, thank you for that. I have seen how you try to help people, i thought in this instance that you were a little harsh on a new poster; lord knows we need more people on here and in the hobby, not less people coming here because they think it's becoming 4chan.

Please let me make one thing clear, i have no issue at all with you, nothing to "backfire" on you; it was simply my opinion that in this case you appeared to be a little harsh, perhaps (as you indicated) i don't have all the information, in which case i am sorry.

Thanks

Ian R Tyldesley

AVSIM is full of questions that Google could answer

No, it's not. Some you can find, and some much harder or not at all. I'm not asking for heaven and the moon. A simple search is all that is obvious if a user did that or not.

Questions are going to be answered, one kind or another. It's the kind of questioning that is going to be questioned. My personal judgement on the topics I know a lot about.

it's more the tone

Of course it's the tone. You will see hundreds, thousands of my posts being utterly friendly. And some like this. Now let's turn this page around - what happens if I do a friendly post? Person says thanks usually and that's it (not that I'm expecting anything). No other reactions. But when I give the tone, then people start attacking you about being this and that. Let's observe this from a completely another angle, and you'll realize that as much I do other posts that are friendly, putting down one or another user is inevitable and quite normal, as much as it's normal to post friendly posts. What you are telling me (how I understand it) is that you don't like seeing other users being put down - in a quite friendly way, by the way - and you don't want to see it public on the forums. As I said, I can go with that, and I get it. I hope you understand my point of view, too. And yes, I was harsh - it was ment exactly as you apparently received it!

All is well :Peace:

everything I do is for the quality and enjoyment of other users

No arguments from me on that score, Srdan. I've always found you ever-ready to help anyone.

Continue this agenda, and I am going to be locking/deleting your threads one after another.

OK Word Not Allowed I'm sorry for all what I did wrong.

Here I've tension tension and tension. Word Not Allowed you gave me two files, one was of .pdf and one was a forum URL. I've tried my best but I'm unable to to do any thing. Last night I spent two hours on this but it doesn't happen. Why? What error I have been facing?

I applied CTRL+E and by pressing it, only main exit door opens. You can see it in second picture I've uploaded. But for Baggage / Cargo door opening when I do Shift+E or CTRL+E and then press 2. Baggage door doesn't open. What error am I facing? I don't know. Not a single command works for me.

Even X+2, X+3 doesn't work. You can see in photos below that how much closer my plane is to the terminal.

Try this: Put the default B737 at the default London Heathrow Airport (EGLL), parked at the gate like this (I think this is gate 313 or somewhere near there anyway). Put the parking brake on and then press Control+J. You should see the air bridge extend forwards and then roll up to your main forward exit as in this pic. If you don't see this happen, you need to turn the graphic complexity level up:

Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

It will be displayed on the navigation display as "ground speed".

Thank you pal.

@Word Not Allowed I don't know what's wrong with you mate but your posts always sound like you have some problem with the other user.

I'm nobody to tell you what to do but maybe you could at least try to be a bit more polite, we are here to share and help each other afterall.

Autopilot, aside from your problem with the jetways, have you considered fixing your display settings so that your planes aren't a blurry mess and turn on some AA to get rid of the jagged edges. If I were you, the appearance of your sim would bother me more than the problem with the jetways.

Why dont you post some pics of your FSX setting from the main display menu or try setting up according to Nicks guide over in the GEX forum at Simforums.

BTW, do you have advanced animations checked? I believe you need to have that checked to get the jetways to actually move.

My PC is 1.86 Core to Duo with 2GB RAM and Graphic is Intel 965 Chipset Family. Total Windows Experience Score is 2.8 with Aero Enabled at Windows 7 Ultimate. My Gaming Graphic Score is 3.4 and Windows Desktop Aero Score is 2.8. When I start FSX then PC itself own disable my Aero and goes to Windows 7 Basic and after finishing FSX, windows comes back to Aero Windows 7 Ultimate form.

Here are my Settings:

I never really played with this. This is only how other people reported it working. I can't say from my own experience.

I'm only exclusively using addon aircraft, and those usually have separate keys and commands for every door.

Maybe your commands in FSX controls are messed up. Ever tried to reset them?

Another thing, I see your screenshots are VERY low quality. From this I would also deduct you are running low scenery settings, meaning jetways are not going to be working.

High scenery settings, advanced animations, high resolution textures...

but your posts always sound like you have some problem with the other user.

Hardly. I am through with explaining myself.

Here are my Settings:

For Jetways to work, Advanced Animations must be on.

Pull the Global Texture Resolution up to the max. Tune the Traffic settings down, 50% or less. Water settings 1.x high or less. Your system is getting low performance due to very high sliders on wrong places.

Your GPU is not nearly adequate for running FSX, so you need to compromise, a lot.

Now I quite understand why you have troubles controlling the sim. You are running 10FPS - that is virtually uncontrollable for a flight sim. Even worse if you are using a keyboard.

I would HIGHLY suggest you dump FSX, and install FS9. For your need it's more than adequate and you'll be running way better graphics with much better frames.

May I ask where you are from and what your mother language is? Are you using translators to post here?

Try clicking the "Advanced Animations" click box in screen number 1, and see if your jetways work then.

Also, try setting your Global Texture resolution to Max to get your repaints to at least display correctly. Turn off Aircraft cast showdows on Ground and also the one that says Aircraft Cast Shadows on itself. Turning those off will help your performance. You might want to click the Anti-Alising box if your not going to use Inspector and see if that helps your jagged edges.

Frankly, there is a lot of other stuff to do, but at least turn on your advanced animations to get your jetways work.

Intel on-board graphics running FSX at 1280 resolution? 2Gb RAM with Aero enabled? That just about says it all.

Srdan, chill, my man, you have done your best for Autopilot. Let somebody else prepared to invest time in re-training somebody who clearly as Sean has pointed out has a graphics issue besides assigned keys, deal with it.

Rick Almeida

Yep. I think I've said everything I wanted to. Let's see what good comes out of it!
