May 3, 201214 yr Hello, Guys! I don't know how to taxi the plane in FSX. Suppose I've a Boeing 747-400 on the runway. I don't know how much percent of throttle should I give so that plane doesn't increase it speed and go outside of airport? How much speed it should be while taxing? 5nm, 10nm or 20nm? and suppose it's 20nm then question is that how to maintain 20nm during taxi? I always face this problem that when I press F3, then plane goes over speed and doesn't stop at its right place and goes into bushes. Please tell me the right procedure. Another thing is that how to get passenger into the plane in an airport? and how to get fuel into the plane in an airport? I've learnt full FSX by this forum and this thing is remaining. Please help me. Regards, autopilot
May 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member NM means nautical miles, its distance not your speed. Your speed is in knots. Good taxi speed is around 20 knots I think, of course slower if you need. And amount of throttle needed depends from weight of your plane and many other things, you just keep increasing / decreasing it until you get it right, and of course then put it down a bit if need to slow down, and other way around. You should get some joystick with throttle, would make things easier.
May 3, 201214 yr Taxi speed is anything up to 30knots, anything beyond that is a rule violation unless specifically authorised for fast taxi (which is normally only done when a runway is being used as a taxiway). For jets, usually you find that you start to roll at about 30-40% N1 at sea level, but then you can pull back to about 10% N1, depending on the rolling resistance. Getting a feel for how an aircraft responds is why a lot of people stick to only a couple of aircraft types.
May 3, 201214 yr I strongly suggest you get a Yoke with throttle controls. But stay within 20-30 knots. However, don't try it religously; even in real life pilots won't maintian an exact speed due to engine may factors; however, yes within a range!
May 3, 201214 yr Moderator I strongly suggest you get a Yoke with throttle controls. I was just about to say the same, or at least get a joystick with a built in throttle lever. I can't imagine trying to control the planes control surfaces or engines using key presses. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
May 4, 201214 yr Is there a way to check the speed at those levels? For instance, the NGX doesn't register anything under 45 knots in the PFD. John Connor
May 4, 201214 yr Saitek Throttle Quadrant is only $50, but it does have some spikes. Hardware adds alot. Consider a joystick instead of a yoke as you can fly more things and aerobatics, combat planes etc.
May 4, 201214 yr Getting rudder pedals helps, too: http://goo.gl/re2dm Troy W. - "Tango Whiskey" Fort Worth, TX, USA Private Pilot, Airplane Single Engine Land, Instrument Rating "In a world full of people, only some want to fly. Isn't that crazy?!" - Seal, Crazy, 1990
May 4, 201214 yr For something like a SVC10 which is 335,000lbs auw. 68% n2 is recommended at all weights including max. Once the a/c is rolling then throttle backto idle or just above. vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA

Please help me. Regards, autopilot In a 747 you usually taxi around 20-30 knots, take tight turns at 10 or less knots. As others have said, you need a yoke to properly raise the trust to get it rolling. There is no set thrust it all depends on your weight. About passengers and fuel, you go up to the fuel and payload section in the menus.
May 4, 201214 yr This is such an old story with this user: he declines to get a basic hardware, and complains that he can't control the sim. To autopilot: As many have stated, too many times already, you have to get a joystick and a throttle (either built in on the joystick or separate). Taxiing is done with a feeling, not by numbers. Up to 30kts is allowed officially. You can't turn with 30kts. And it also depends on weight and aircraft size how much throttle you might need.
May 4, 201214 yr One thing about joystick throttles, some have hard detentes (Thrustmaster for one) at the low and high end of it's range, that get in the way of controlling the throttle position correctly at low power. So if you do decide on a throttle controller, look for one that don't have those detentes Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

Didn't we have this conversation, Word Not Allowed? Please quit putting people down because they don't do things the way you like to do them. Be helpful or be quiet.

You can tell when afterburner comes on from the noise anyway, and the full range is so useful in non-afterburner planes it's best with no detent.
