don't want to hijack the thread ..but your so right it really does fly..only seems yesterday i was paying £5.00 a week for my first premier olympic drumkit,only earning £7.30 a week(from a catalogue)bit different from the DW i use now.anyway back to the speakers

I would say to alex..get the best..we're only here a short time so why not look after yourself..28 years i had ok drums and suddenly thought ,you know what after all this time i want the best ones i can get.but yes rich they are so expensive i told my missus they only cost half of what i paid for them treat yourself alex.....but don't tell the wife :smile:

I do all my simming with my Beyerdynamic DT770 studio reference monitor headphones. They're not quite full-size monitor speakers, but they're very close to neutral.

 

The NGX's sounds were created on a professional system using monitors - so monitors would probably be the best possible sound actually, provided you have full range frequency response out of them (usually requires the main monitors plus a subwoofer).

 

I have a Pro Tools interface myself, but I don't use it for game sound output - I use my Asus Xonar DX card for that.

 

@Tabs and Rob, I just couldn't justify the price for some speakers, for the money I could get some headphones, usb keyboards and a full DAW. As a guitarplayer for more than 30 years (and also being a Hammond player), I have quite some experiences with the Yamaha NS-10 studio monitor speakers. They have a very neutral sound and "not coloured". I know they are quite aged but it's still a reference in studio. I don't know if you can still purchase them as new but otherwise you'll always find them on ebay.

So the solution.

 

I have 2 creative speakers at the moment, I love them. So I am going to continue using them and my headset through my asus sound card.

 

For everything music related [music production/composition], I am going to put the input and output through the usb audio interface and monitors. Which is a Roland Quad-Capture

Ik tried to connect my speakers to a soundblastercard and my usb headphone to the internal soundcard.

I can't use them both. If I switch on one of them the other switch off.

 

Did you manage to use to sound cards at the same time?

Or did I understand it wrong.

If your like me and can't afford monitors, I would recommend the audio technica m50's :)

I highly recommend the Mackie HR-824's... They are a jaw dropping studio monitor.

Just want to point out here that NS-10s aren't actually high-end or "good" speakers in terms of their reproduction ability - the reason a lot of mixers use them is because they're a decent representation of the average but not too great home speakers that most consumers of the final mix are going to have... boomboxes, cars etc. If you can make an album or song's mix sound good on NS-10s you know it's going to sound good virtually anywhere. If you mix specifically for amazing super high fidelity monitors (high end Genelec, KRK, K+H, Focal, etc) then there's a pretty good chance the mix isn't going to sound that great on a more average consumer system.

 

Good mixers flip back and forth between something like the NS10s and their much better hi-fi monitors to make sure the mix sounds good through both. I watched the process multiple times when the band I was in's albums were mixed - it was NS10s, Genelecs and Tanoys for that and our mixer flipped back and forth between them a bunch. We burned a lot of CDs of test mixes and took them out to the car to listen too in that environment.

M-Audio BX-5 monitors through M-Audio Fast Track Pro on my system sounds fantastic!
