I have done a bit of looking around and cant figure this out. I got a flight plan from simroutes.com and downloaded the file in PMDG format. Now I just need to know where to put it and how to access it. Thank you for the help.

Save the flight plan something like KPHXKJFK (or whatever cities you're flying from-to.Download the flight plan to your PMDG/FLIGHT PLANS folder. Then type the name of the flight plan into the COROUTE entry on the RTE page.

I'm desperatly looking for help on similar issue :

I have at least 20 saved flightplans in FSX\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS\NGX.

All made by "loading" a particular situattion or from a PMDG tutorial such as from SP1c.

I was always able to open such flightplan when starting a new session from FREE FLIGHT.

Now suddenly ... when I do exactly the same, all I get is "There are no flights saved".

I can see the 20 saved flightplans but apparently FSX cannot longer find them.

What have I done wrong or how to correct this ???

Loading a flight from the FSX Free flight screen is for loading positions and aircraft. To load the PMDG plans you must do that through the CDU. There is no way to do that from just FSX. Your FSX plans are in " My Documents / Flight Simulator X " (or the like).

I had made the mistake : not the FLIGHTPLANS where lost, but the FLIGHTS. I now found out that FLIGHTS are stored in User\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files. By accident I had emptied that map. Now I have recovered them. Topic can be closed.

What web sites are you guys using to find a STAR to use for your landings? I was just not sure if I need to read over every STAR plate to find the correct one to use for a landing?

Pre-coffee post, so I apologize if it seems slightly gruff - not my intention.

 

The first problem is that the STAR (Standard Terminal Arrival Route) is meant to be how you get from cruise to your approach. The approach is what gets you down to the runway to land (and autoland, in the case of an ILS certified as such). So, if you're searching around, you need to be looking for approaches, not STARs.

 

I'm not sure where you are, but in the States a good site is AirNav.com. I'm sure others will chip in their own ideas.

 

In order to Autoland (realistically, anyway), you're looking for CAT-III ILS approaches, but in the sim, any ILS will do.

Iam using avilosoft efb as well as others in here, and you can find flight plans within and also it tells you all the sids and stars as well to choose from from with in the map which is a neat feature.Also it gives the navaids and lengths of each of the rwys that are available and more information as well

For the very basic approach, all you have to do is select ILS approach on DEP/ARR page in FMC, and then clear the discontinuity in LEGS page. This should get you to the ILS relatively on speed and altitude. Then continue as shown in this video.
