What programs will work on an Ipad ?

Featured Replies

Because of moving to another adress next month I switched energy suppliers and I am getting a free Ipad 3.

I was wondering if I could use it for my flightsimming too.

Perhaps for a weather program or other addons.

So I thought that we could use this Topic to post addon programs that work on an Ipad.

I will start :

  • http://itunes.apple....d452544816?mt=8 --> Remote Autopilot : this gauge replaces generic autopilot panel and delivers features like HDG, VS, NAV, APR. All standard autopilot functions from FS9 and FSX default aircafts are available in this gauge

FS Kneeboard 2 has already been mentioned, and i use it regularly for weather updates mainly.

I also use iBooks to read all my pdf manuals.

I've added a shortcut to skyvector.com on my home screen since the interface works very well on iPad. It's great for planning a flight, assuming you don't have too many waypoints (can't scroll the waypoint list): http://skyvector.com/

Finally, I have a shortcut to the online version of the FAA's AIM as well so I can look things up when I need to: http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aim/

  • 2 weeks later...

What I find unbelievable is that no one has programmed a gps out from FSX that feeds into the iPad. This should be a no brainer, would allow Foreflight, Jepp FD and many other existing aviation apps to work on the iPad with the position and altitude information from FSX feeding into it. SkyCharts does have integration with xPlane and will work like in aircraft GPS for simming in xPlane but that was written into that program itself. If I can plug an external GPS (my Bad Elf) into the iPad to use for use while flying I can't see why you couldn't utilize the USB to iPad plug and feed the information from FSX in to the iPad. I'll pay money for this and offer to test it if a developer reads this and wants to tackle the project. I have SkyCharts, Foreflight and Jepp FD on my iPad and use them for real world flying so can make a true comparison for their operation in the sim.
