Why do my AI contrails look like this (see screenshot)?

Featured Replies

Why the little puffs of smoke rather than a long trail? Anyone any ideas?

Thanks,

Martin

pollution :LMAO:

There may be different reasons. Anyway backup your original contrails and try a replacement file.

There are quite many, most of them freeware. You can find them at the AVSIM library.

For instance one has been uploaded just today: http://library.avsim...hor=&CatID=root

Another possibility is your graphics card settings. This will certainly be so if you notice a similar effect on medium roads..

Hmm, new to the chemtrail conspiracy!!

Yes, that occurred to me too 'Appliance', as I do get the same effect on medium roads. I have tried a few of the replacement contrails from AVSIM, but to no avail.. I use nVidia Inspector, with NickN's recommended settings (SimForums)

and although I can't really complain about how sharp the ground image is when I am over 30,000' (areas come into focus reasonably quickly and I rarely see large undefined rectangles in the distance), I do indeed have masses of dotted roads like this in all but the areas that are in sharp focus. I of course have extended terrain textures and so forth set to on (I have followed a lot of the AVSIM posts about blurred textures and tried many different settings, editing the fs9.cfg file and so on until I get the best effect).

The dotted roads are a lot more annoying than the dotted contrails (though I never see the contrails come into focus, as the roads do as I ghet near to them). If you have any advice about graphic card settings, over and above what I have set in nVidia Inspector, and how I might tweak them to get rid of this effect, I'd be grateful.

Thanks for the input,

M.

'Fraid I can't help you with specifics. My computer has been harmonised by FS-GS and its Inspector, and other, settings have been tailored to my graphics card, cpu etc and likely to be dissimilar to yours.

Perhaps others may be able to chime in with assistance.

Flusifix

Also has a quicker and simpler way to increase your con trail life /length no CFG editing ,just select your contrail display time/length and its just a button click .

As in all things FS I believe longer lived contrails can also mean some performance hit ,quite how much this will be with trail length I don't know.

PS this is will alter con trail display time/length.

Not sure about the look.

Thanks, but I don't think the contrail length is the problem here. As I get the same effect with roads it may be a GPU issue. Maybe someone has some suggestions - I can experiment a little changing settings, but I have not found a solution to date

Hello

I am pretty sure there are alternative con trail effects files that can be tried as well.I did this years ago ,but the result was trails far to big/voluminous for me. It might be worth checking the library though.

On the whole I am satisfied with my own CTs but for some reason on my 777s both Posky and Melijet they always look rather weedy for some reason.

Anyways

cheers A.

Now I come to think about it, if this were a GPU issue, wouldn't my own aircraft's contrails, in the distance, also suffer from the same effect? As it is, they look fine, whereas AI contrails, even when the a/c passes close by, are not...

Martin, have you tried a replacement yet?

  • Author

Not this time round, but I did spend quite some time investigating replacements to cure this about a year ago, to no effect. I will try again when I can and report back.

Still experimenting with different versions.. no conclusion as yet (don't always see AI a/c with contrails when I fly).

AI may not always have CTs ,depends on altitude ,outside air temperature .
