October 25, 201213 yr I am filing a complaint to Avsim regarding this thread... too much Hardware pornography for us poor souls with a tight budget  Enrique Vaamonde
October 25, 201213 yr Now now ... if I had an unlimited checkbook for my flightsim hobby, I'd probably aim for a complete flight deck, including a force feedback/hydraulic motion platform and a nice projection system for immersion! If you have the real estate to assemble something like this, you could have someone design or even purchase the whole front section of a 737 and have it shipped to your house! Then finding the rest of the hardware goodies is a matter of a few trips to an aircraft cemetery or an online broker for these things. I'm sure you could do something cool for less than 100k (USD) ... and with 250k you could probably do something really awesome. The next step would be owning your own 737... think Bruce Dickinson (he has a 75 tho') ;-) cheers -E Enrique Vaamonde
October 25, 201213 yr Author I like the thought of a 737 nose mounted in my house, or as a teaser in my companys office lobby A cockpit would actually be nice, I could allways fork out a 100k but that would be over the limit for my interest in simming. I am upgrading to the most powerful PC possible for FSX, I have ok controllers, the best addons and use the somewhat limited time I have (lot of hobbies...) to learn how to fly the PMDG738 in the most realistic way possible. Possibly I will get a MCP and a CDU, just for practical reasons as those units are much used and HW is much faster to use than fiddling around with the mouse, so it will help my skill level. My most important sw is FSX, UTX, GEX, REXE textures, Opus RTwx / cam, and I will fly VATSIM. I am actually not that interested in airport scenery either, more of a "systems guy" actually, but this has propably a lot to do with the 15 fps experience I get with heavy airports now ;-)
October 25, 201213 yr Thanks, I guess being very meticulous about Win services would be the way to go. Au contraire, do not disable services like you maybe used to under XP. I think I only disable some services like Defender or Windows Search, really only ones that bother. But all others, just leave as they are. That has been said across various W7 forums... What you must make sure is full updated drivers installation, then couple of W7 tweaks, updates and that, defragment (or SSD!) and AV... yeah, AV, I have Kaspersky running and my sim is not performing one percent differently. Just make sure you disable scanning on that drive (you should have FSX and Windows on separate disks, even SSDs), exclude the fsx.exe process from AV and whatever is running with it.
October 25, 201213 yr I could always fork out a 100k but that would be over the limit for my interest in simming. Ahah! So money IS an object! What an interesting thread, I love it when you guys talk dirty. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
October 26, 201213 yr Author Ahah! So money IS an object! What an interesting thread, I love it when you guys talk dirty. :) When building a PC money is no object, when it trails off into rebuilding my house, even I reach a limit
October 26, 201213 yr Can I just ask, if you have enough money to do whatever, why don't you just get a real jet licence? Honest question as I'd like to know what holds the interest in a sim.
October 26, 201213 yr Author Legitimate question, allthough I never claimed to have unlimited sources to do "whatever I want in the whole wide world". The initial post was regarding new PC build, wich is in a "money is no object" mode Suddenly people wonder why I don't buy my own plane or build a real 737-cockpit... So, next point, I could take a license if I wanted to, easily, but actually I dont see how I could follow up on that without having to forsake a lot of other stuff I also like to do. I actually have no urge what so ever do be a real pilot, especially not a commercial pilot for an airline, I have a much more comfortable life now, no schedules and I can fly pretty realistic just for the fun of it
October 26, 201213 yr Lol... Having an unlimited budget I feel like I would spend a lot less time working and more time flying a real airplane. Maybe a PC-12 or TBM 850 or a King Air 200 or a Cessna Mustang... sigh. I'm looking forward to seeing what you put together. If you decide to go the X79 route I am more than glad to lend any advice you need. My rig and yours will be very similar. Dan Daniel Fernandez
October 26, 201213 yr Author Great, thanks! Someone is poking me to wait for the Haswell but I'll see how inspired I get. I get what you mean, I had serious plans to do the GA way back but here in Norway the scattered AP's and short season / rough weather makes it very time consuming and not so easy to use flying as transportation, unless IFR and dual engines ofcourse.
