FSX versions and installing

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I've just got a new computer and hopefully it can handle FSX at acceptable framerates so I think I'm ready to get FSX.

I have had a look at Microsoft website and saw FSX has 2 versions, Standard and Deluxe. Do both of these versions compatible with all FSX addons? I remember there also Service Packs (1 or 2?) and Acceleration Pack (or something like that).

So which one should I get and what is the right way to install FSX with the latest updates?

I've tried to search google but my English is not so good so I don't came up with the information I needed.

Thanks!

Hi, the only differencec between Standard and Deluxe is that with Deluxe you get more planes like a C172 with an Garmin G1000 Glass cockipt ans some other planes. Systemwise it´s the same, it´s just a bit more content.

Best regards, Steffen

What you want is FSX Gold. It combines Deluxe and Accelleration in one product.

Sorry to kick up the dust here chaps, bit of confusion...

I have FSX Gold, and it only includes FSX Deluxe (2 x DVD) and FSX Acceleration (1 x DVD)

As some here say that FSX Deluxe needs to then have SP1/2 installed, does this mean that its the acceleration DVD that installs SP1 & SP2 along with the other aircraft?

Generally speaking, yeah, you're right, but I'm not completely sure about ACC installing SP1. I installed FSX Deluxe, then SP1, then ACC and it runs fine, because I wanted to make sure SP1 is installed.

hmm, shortly after I posted that question I read here in another thread that installing SP1 and 2 after acceleration is a bad thing because the acceleration pack has its own special Service packs for FSX..

I've literally just installed FSX + Acc, and did a quick 10 minute fly around with the F18 only to have it totally freeze up on me. Sound kept going but the action on-screen just froze. Nothing else installed at all, on a fresh win7 install :-(

Runs bloody smooth though at 20fps with EVERYTHING maxed up.

Am wondering now if doing the "standard" SP1 & SP2 would fix anything or make it worse... Hmmmmm

As I said, I installed SP1 prior to the installation of ACC. Installing it after ACC would probably lead to a fatal mess, if it's possible at all.

As for that freeze, I don't know any solution, but I'm sure someone else will be able to jump in here. Anyways, if you don't have a ny addons nistalled yet, you could as well give it a try, if installing SP1 improves the situation for you. But keep in mind, you'll definitely have to uninstall ACC before installing SP1! SP2 won't be necessary if you install ACC again, because it is included in ACC, and you'll be prompted to uninstall it anyways.

Sound freezing up sounds like an uiautomation core problem. No matter which FSX version you have, you need that fix.

Any FSX version is going to need standard FSX fixes.

Installation of ACC requires no further patches, it is already SP1+SP2 included.

Thank you very much, Srdan. I didn't know that for sure, but now I will remember it.

Hey Flo, you're welcome.

You are also from Vienna? I'm living near Baden.

Getting off topic here, but no not anymore. I moved to Leoben to study there, but left LOWW in my profile, because I forgot about it, and, well I still go there, at least during holidays.

Florian

Gotcha. Was in Leoben last year on a seminar. Nice town.
