Is Alaska next?

Featured Replies

My prediction is that on June 27 the "Alaskan Wilderness" package will be released at a price of $35. Included in the pack will be a helicopter and a bush plane (both with VCs), many new missions and lots of aerocaches. There will also be something else which will improve Flight's experience. On the same day, another aircraft with a VC will be released for $20.

that would be a dream come true, except for the prices.

Should be 20€ for Alaska with 2 or 3 planes with cockpit. and 14 € for an extra plane with VC.

Plausible. I'd get a kick out of missions where you need to use the helicopter to deliver extreme skiers to the top of Mount Fillintheblank.

There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.

Their "casual gamer" target audience will not pay those prices. Think XBox DLC pricing.

I predict Alaska will be $19.95 or, at most, $24.95. Any higher and a console person will say "That's almost buying a whole new game!"

Remember, these are the people who are already complaining about $6 planes costing way too much (and not because they don't have cockpits, either, speaking only to the price).

It may come with a plane, but just one (maybe even none); possibly a good bush plane like a Beaver. On the other hand, the Maule is already a good bush plane and would overlap pretty closely in capabilities. Especially if they add float, ski, and tundra tire variants as liveries (explaining why the Maule currently has only two).

As much as I would like a twin, I bet we don't get one. I think the new, faster transport will be something like a Cessna 208 Caravan. They are very common in Alaska, and the turboprop's speed would make longer Jobs more doable.

Additional aircraft DLC will be in line with the Maule's pricing, so figure $14.95. Again, their target demographic simply will not pay traditional flight-sim add-on rates, or anything close to it.

On the other hand, that's fine by me as I think they are leaving money on the table by catering to a nearly non-existant audience (gamers with simple desires but very long attention spans even when given little to do). Their marketing decision has me paying half of what I would be willing to pay.

On the gripping hand, if the Alaska DLC prices are higher than Hawaii's DLC prices, that just might indicate they actually are re-assesing where Flight is capable of going. That could lead to bigger and better things.

Er... 20 for Alaska and 2 or 3 planes and... 14 for just ONE plane...? Serious? If you want to pay 20 for Alaska and 2 or 3 planes, wouldn't a single aircraft cost something like 5 euro? If a single plane is worth 14, Alaska with two planes should be worth 40 to 50 euro... Anyway, I think you can forget about that price for Alaska and also, IF there will be a plane included with Alaska, it will only be one.

I've been looking at train sims the last few days and boy, Flight DLC is real cheap.

BTW I don't care for too many new planes. I like the Maule and the RV but would like a plane that's more suited for Alaska. And I'd like the other DLC to be about other things: weather, traffic, ATC, etc. I don't need that many planes because I am used to flying one plane for months.

That's because the train sim DLC is much more detailed, is never without a cockpit, has greater longevity, and is made with much more evident care. I trust them even on short acquaintance to keep steadily improving, and believe they have every intention to do so. Its a value for money thing. Given what I have seen, I would pay those prices for train DLC, and I would not pay those prices for flight DLC.

It is also known that those train DLC have some support, they even get specific updates. We can't say that right now from Flight DLCs, but it is at an "early" state still... Gone out too soon for the market ? :D

That would definitely work for me. A beaver or cessna 206/210 along with a huey or AS350 would be ideal here. While the Maule would work in the bush, I am not a big fan of it.

I agree with this. I mean, what else has the flight team been doing for the last three months?

I find it funny people are moaning about 15$ aircraft and 25$ pack of land, considering its a fraction of what it cost's in FSX. Yes, FSX does have the "world" but its a mediocre world that people typically replace peace by peace at a very high cost. OrbX airports cost you 25-35$ EACH, and about 30$ for the PNW area. Most aircraft cost 25-35$ each, with some landing in at 80$+. The same prices go for XP10 stuff. Yes, you can get FSX to look as good as Flight, but it wont run as good, and will cost you a LOT of money to do so. Complaining about the cost is really a moot point when you consider the above.

That's ASSUMING you have the $1500 to $5000 of disposable cash, and time and inclination to fiddle, tweak, and curse at a machine capable of running it all at an 'acceptable' level...

So far I have spent more time in Flight then FSX even though I havent played Flight in 3 months. Flying FSX is a pain now for me. Yes, its got the world, but its slow and clumsy feeling. I plan on spending a LOT of time exploring Alaska if they have some good aircraft with it, but I wont buy Alaska without a good set of aircraft to explore it.

Ho ho, cool reference!!

I was wondering if anyone would comment on that. I always liked the three-sided Aristotelian logic. ;)

I'll buy Alaska no matter what. Flight is THE flying game for me. I even uninstalled FSX completely last weekend even though I haven't touched Flight in two weeks... but I can't imagine flying in FSX anymore. As I said, I like the Maule and the RV, and I think I can have a lot of fun in Alaska even if I was limited to those two planes.

I have been flying the MS Flight Maule for over 2 years now. Daddy needs a new ride.
