May 30, 201214 yr Anyone tried REX Essentials with the NGX? Is it any better than AS2012 or not? What about the S-.turns, the winds aloft and the overcast sky? Thanks. James Goggi
May 30, 201214 yr I like it so far. The weather engine is great. Still waiting for essentials OD. +1 If you bought it from the FlightSim Store, then you can just download the full version and not have to wait... i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB

May 30, 201214 yr How? Essentials OverDrive hasn't been released yet. You don't have to wait for Overdrive... Uninstall your REX Overdrive, then uninstall your REX 2.0 and go to the FSS page and download Essentials from your account. It should have changed from REX to Essentials. Next week, Overdrive will come out for Essentials whether you have the full version or the upgrade. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB

All that seems overly complicated and too much of a headache when I can just wait for OD to come out and install on top of my existing OD without having to uninstall anything. I'm fine with waiting if it means less uninstalling/reinstalling programs. AJ Pongress
May 31, 201214 yr I think for the NGX, As2012 is better, as you can access winds aloft and temps information. And works with FSbuild. Next week, Overdrive for Essentials will come out, so get it then. Not really complicated... i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
May 31, 201214 yr How is it complicated? Uninstall the REX you currently have, and install REX Essentials. Next week, Overdrive for Essentials will come out, so get it then. Not really complicated... You're 100% sure that they will also offer OverDrive as an upgrade to vanilla Essentials and that I won't have to uninstall Essentials and reinstall Essentials OverDrive? I haven't seen anything about that from REX studios, and they themselves said that OverDrive users just have to wait a little longer to get the upgrade package without having to uninstall anything. May 31, 201214 yr You're 100% sure that they will also offer OverDrive as an upgrade to vanilla Essentials and that I won't have to uninstall Essentials and reinstall Essentials OverDrive? When you first got REX, how did you install Overdrive? It will be the same thing; you just install over it as Essentials "vanilla" is a prerequisite. I haven't seen anything about that from REX studios, and they themselves said that OverDrive users just have to wait a little longer to get the upgrade package without having to uninstall anything. They meant if you bought REX from a vendor other than FSS, you had to wait for the upgrade because other vendors would continue to only provide REX, while FSS provides Essentials now. Do you see what I mean? i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB

Do you see what I mean? I see what you mean there. I'm just thinking that they also meant existing REX 2.0 OD users can wait for the upgrade without having to uninstall then reinstall the Essentials OverDrive version. AJ Pongress

I'm just thinking that they also meant existing REX 2.0 OD users can wait for the upgrade without having to uninstall then reinstall the Essentials OverDrive version. It's your choice. May 31, 201214 yr All that seems overly complicated and too much of a headache when I can just wait for OD to come out and install on top of my existing OD without having to uninstall anything. I'm fine with waiting if it means less uninstalling/reinstalling programs. I'm not sure how it is overly complicated and it actually seems less complicated to me. 2.0 OD customers have two options at this point. Either uninstall Rex 2.0 OD and do a clean install of Rex Essential (installing the OD addition later) or trying to follow Rex's preparation instructions to prepare 2.0 OD for Essentials +OD plus waiting until they release the Essentials + OD. The first option seems less complicated to me. They've indicated that is the case on their forums. And even if it wasn't the case I'm not sure it would be a big loss. OverDrive was a texture enhancement pack to Rex 2.0, that is it. Essentials already has HD textures built into it. I've yet to see anything that didn't looks spectacular with Essentials - OverDrive. I think for the NGX, As2012 is better, as you can access winds aloft and temps information. And works with FSbuild. IMHO Winds aloft data is given to you with Essentials, and particularly with the NGX, FSBuild compatibility seems rather useless given the NGX's built in planning/fuel management calculations. -Steve Godwin
