May 31, 201214 yr I installed it today and so far its great. Just uninstall REX2 and OD and redownload from their link. Was pretty straight forward. You'll have to have your original key or order number however. When the latest OD gets released it should install over Essentials. Gil Hidalgo
May 31, 201214 yr REXE does not provide you with temps or average wind like AS2012 does. Its textures however are simply the best. I don't feel like putting the wind in every waypoint every time I fly so average wind is always good to have... Right now I am REXE for textures and AS2012 for weather. May 31, 201214 yr I see what you mean there. I'm just thinking that they also meant existing REX 2.0 OD users can wait for the upgrade without having to uninstall then reinstall the Essentials OverDrive version. i was like you was going to wait till they release the overdrive. But i decided to do the uninstall/reinstall with the full essential from fss, at least its a clean install from scratch. didnt take long to do the reinstall the longest part was downloading the exec from fss other than this part everything went smoothly. Only thing they sugested is to make sure u use ccleaner after the uninstall than you shouldnt have any troubles at all I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
May 31, 201214 yr Right now I am REXE for textures and AS2012 for weather. Same here. The combination of the two is giving me the best results ever so far. :Peace: Nicolas Dumats

May 31, 201214 yr For you Active Sky + Essentials users, are you guys using the Visibility and Cloud options in the Configuration Manager? Or are those tied to the weather engine? I have all the check boxes on the weather engine tab off, but wondering if the check boxes for the Visibiliy and Clouds tabs work on their own. AJ Pongress

I tried this but didn’t like it as much. I agree that AS does a better job software wise with weather reporting and planning; I also agree that by using the AS weather engine with REX textures you will have a great setup. But the visuals are more that just good textures. The weather engine creates layering, fog, wind, turbulence, etc and In my opinion, the environment created by the REX weather engine is more alive and believable. Its too bad the software wasn't as complete as AS. For you Active Sky + Essentials users, are you guys using the Visibility and Cloud options in the Configuration Manager? I believe that if you use the AS engine, your REX Config manager settings won't take effect as they drive the REX engine. Jim Shield Cybersecurity Specialist

Its too bad the software wasn't as complete as AS. To be honest I expected the weather part to be a bit more detailed and provide at least temps and averages, which I don't think would be too hard for the developers to do since they have done a good job in modelling the weather (with this cube around the plane that they describe). It's currently more like a presentation thing to me as I didn't really had the time to 'check' REXE weather. One thing that I'll check for sure is the left-right swings of NGX that are eliminated in AS2012, but some people say are present in REXE. I know it can be fixed with FSUIPC but I'd prefer things like this to be handled by the weather engine itself. Anyway REXE is a trully respectable job, a great value for money and I'd recommend it to anyone even if it was only for its textures! George Golas ---------------------- I hate gravity!

I'm just thinking that they also meant existing REX 2.0 OD users can wait for the upgrade without having to uninstall then reinstall the Essentials OverDrive version. I have REX 2.0 OD & couldn't wait for the OD update in a few weeks. I D/L'd the Essential package & simply installed it on another drive & directory (from REX 2) which remains untouched by the upgrade. I've already swapped textures from both AS2012 & ESS for comparison (ESS is spectacular, especially with textures loaded from their weather engine for my route). When the OD becomes available from REX I'll install the upgrade over my REX 2 installation & delete the non-OD REX if everything is working OK. You don't have to delete the old installation as long as you install into a different directory. You can have fun trying the new proggie out while waiting.
